Paisley Underground
Paisley Underground is an early genre of alternative rock, based primarily in Los Angeles, which was at its most popular in the mid-1980s. Paisley Underground bands incorporated psychedelia, rich vocal harmonies and guitar interplay that merged folk rock influences and a post-punk style, owing a particular debt to 1960s–1970s groups such as Love and The Byrds, but more generally referencing a wide range of pop and garage rock.
Origin of the name
The term "Paisley Underground" originated in late 1982, and took root with a comment made by Michael Quercio of the band The Three O'Clock, during an interview with the LA Weekly alternative newspaper. As the event was later reported:
The phrase later came to be "hated by the bands it described," though Steve Wynn acknowledged that it was both harmless and helpful to have a "banner" over the movement.
Southern California/L.A. scene
Pat Thomas has described the Paisley Underground sound as a "marriage of classic rock and punk." Although there were accomplished musicians among the groups, the scene was also rooted—as was the punk rock that preceded it—in an inspired amateurism described as "a punk D.I.Y. ethic."

Paisley (/ˈpeɪzli/; Scottish Gaelic: Pàislig) is the largest town in the historic county of Renfrewshire in the west central Lowlands of Scotland and serves as the administrative centre for the Renfrewshire council area. The town is situated on the northern edge of the Gleniffer Braes, straddling the banks of the White Cart Water, a tributary of the River Clyde.
The town, a former burgh, forms part of a contiguous urban area with Glasgow; Glasgow city centre is 6.9 miles (11.1 km) to the east. The town came to prominence with the establishment of Paisley Abbey in the 12th century, an important religious hub in medieval Scotland which formerly had control over the other churches in the local area. It is regularly cited as 'Scotland's largest town' as it has yet to attain official city status.
By the 19th century, Paisley had established itself as a centre of the weaving industry, giving its name to the Paisley shawl and the Paisley Pattern. The town's associations with political Radicalism were highlighted by its involvement in the Radical War of 1820, with striking weavers being instrumental in the protests. As of 1993, all of Paisley's mills had closed, although they are memorialised in the town's museums and civic history.

Paisley (UK Parliament constituency)
Paisley was a parliamentary constituency represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom from 1832 until 1983, when it was divided into Paisley North and Paisley South. These two constituencies were in turn amalgamated into Paisley and Renfrewshire South and Paisley and Renfrewshire North in 2005.

Paisley (design)
Paisley or Paisley pattern is a term in English for a design using the buta or boteh, a droplet-shaped vegetable motif of Persian (i.e. Iranian) origin. Such designs became very popular in the West in the 18th and 19th centuries, following imports of post-Mughal versions of the design from India, especially in the form of Kashmir shawls, and were then imitated locally. The pattern is sometimes called Persian pickles by American traditionalists, especially quilt-makers, or "Welsh pears" in Welsh textiles as far back as 1888.
Origins
Resembling a twisted teardrop, the fig-shaped paisley is of Persian (i.e. Iranian) origin, but its western name derives from the town of Paisley, in West Scotland, a center for textiles where paisley designs were produced.
Some design scholars believe it is the convergence of a stylized floral spray and a cypress tree: a Zoroastrian symbol of life and eternity. Paisley is the quintessential visual metaphor of Iran’s bifurcated and tormented identity – riven between Arabic Islam and pre-Islamic Persian creeds. It is a bent cedar, and the cedar is the tree Zarathustra planted in paradise. The heavenly tree was “bent” under the weight of the Arab invasion and Muslim conquest of Persia. The "bent" cedar is also the sign of strength and resistance but modesty. The floral motif was originated in the Sassanid Dynasty and later in the Safavid Dynasty of Persia (from 1501 to 1736), and was a major textile pattern in Iran during the Qajar and Pahlavi Dynasties. In these periods, the pattern was used to decorate royal regalia, crowns, and court garments, as well as textiles used by the general population.

With Susanna Hoffs, Kendra Smith,Vicki Peterson,Michael Quercio,Karl Precoda,Will Glenn, Steven Roback, Matthew Piucci, Dennis Duck. David Roback's 1984 album project collaborating with many musicians from Paisley Underground L.A. bands.
Originally released as a Vinyl L.P. in 1984. In 1989 Rough Trade
issued it on CD. This recording originated from a FLAC file ripped from the CD (Thanks go to the uploader who upped it as a torrent file & kindly made it available online).
The Paisley Underground scene of L.A. bands of the 1980s, of which David Roback's bands Rain Parade, Clay Allison, Opal, & Mazzy Star were a part, was in part inspired by 1960s rock/psychedelia. This Rainy Day album was David's project. It contains covers of 8 of his favourite songs from the 1960s,&one from the 1970s(Holocaust).He enlisted musicians & singers from a variety of Paisley Underground bands to collaborate on the album. David produced, & is the only musician to appear on every track.

And Nico sings the original version of "I'll Be Your Mirror" on the first V.U. album, a song Lou wrote for Nico!
Last I checked, other YouTubers had uploaded Rainy Day as individual songs, but with one song missing."Rainy Day, Dream Away" wasn't available. Other Rainy Day YT uploads I believe were all various rips from vinyl LPs. Vinyl rips can sound good,but there's a hit or miss aspect as many turntables don't play at precisely 33&1/3 RPM speed, but play slightly fast (sharp) or slow (flat), & thus distort the audio. A good thing about the CD rip here is it plays at the right speed, "in tune".

The Bangles, the Dream Syndicate, the Three O’Clock, and Rain Parade were the core of the '80s L.A. music scene known as the Paisley Underground, a mix of '60s-vibing psychedelic garage rock and pop that influenced countless other bands and musicians!
Now, the bands are celebrating themselves with the recent release “3 x 4: The Bangles, The Three O'Clock, The Dream Syndicate, Rain Parade,” where they cover each other’s songs.

Last I checked, other YouTubers had uploaded Rainy Day as individual songs, but with one song missing."Rainy Day, Dream Away" wasn't available. Other Rainy Day YT uploads I believe were all various rips from vinyl LPs. Vinyl rips can sound good,but there's a hit or miss aspect as many turntables don't play at precisely 33&1/3 RPM speed, but play slightly fast (sharp) or slow (flat), & thus distort the audio. A good thing about the CD rip here is it plays at the right speed, "in tune".

Paisley Underground is an early genre of alternative rock, based primarily in Los Angeles, which was at its most popular in the mid-1980s. Paisley Underground bands incorporated psychedelia, rich vocal harmonies and guitar interplay that merged folk rock influences and a post-punk style, owing a particular debt to 1960s–1970s groups such as Love and The Byrds, but more generally referencing a wide range of pop and garage rock.
Origin of the name
The term "Paisley Underground" originated in late 1982, and took root with a comment made by Michael Quercio of the band The Three O'Clock, during an interview with the LA Weekly alternative newspaper. As the event was later reported:
The phrase later came to be "hated by the bands it described," though Steve Wynn acknowledged that it was both harmless and helpful to have a "banner" over the movement.

Pat Thomas has described the Paisley Underground sound as a "marriage of classic rock and punk." Although there were accomplished musicians among the groups, the scene was also rooted—as was the punk rock that preceded it—in an inspired amateurism described as "a punk D.I.Y. ethic."
