Pacific Opera Victoria Presents Così fan tutte
Come back to the mischief!
April 12-18
A quirky comedy about two men as naughty as Mozart himself… and the women who teach them a lesson.
The follies and foibles of young love are on full display in this timeless comedy of (bad) manners. Encouraged by a cynical old bachelor, a simple bet becomes hilariously complex when young lovers don disguises, aiming to trick their fiancées into infidelity. Will these “new suitors” be successful in their wooing? And if they are – who wins?
This gloriously passionate romp brims with some of the sweetest music Mozart ever wrote, as clumsy romancers get cozy with catastrophe.

Das Rheingold by Pacific Opera Victoria
Music and Libretto by Richard Wagner
October 16, 18, 24, 26, 2014
A very long time ago, a dwarf stole a golden treasure, and from it he forged a ring of power. But the price of power is the renunciation of love.
The first opera in Wagner's monumental Ring Cycle, Das Rheingold sets in motion the conflicts that will ultimately destroy the gods. Here is a world of giants and river nymphs, of dwarves that toil beneath the earth and gods that rule from the mountaintop hall of Valhalla.
This is only the second production of Das Rheingold by a Canadian company. It is also the very first standalone Canadian production of the opera outside of the Ring Cycle.

A monument of 20th century opera, Jenůfa has been called the piece with which Janáček conquered the world. The drama centres on the complex relationship between two formidable women – Jenůfa and her stepmother – and the consequences when Jenůfa has a child out of wedlock.
Fusing folk harmonies with the rhythms of the Czech language, Janáček creates a distinctive musical voice that is at once lush and gritty, radiant and haunting.
Directed by Atom Egoyan, set & costume design Debra Hanson
A Co-Production with Opéra de Montréal
