William Kent (c. 1685 – 12 April 1748) was an eminent English architect, landscape architect and furniture designer of the early 18th century.
Kent introduced the Palladian style of architecture into England with the villa at Chiswick House, and for originating the 'natural' style of gardening known as the English landscape garden at Chiswick, Stowe House in Buckinghamshire, and Rousham House in Oxfordshire. As a landscape gardener he revolutionised the layout of estates, but had limited knowledge of horticulture.
He complemented his houses and gardens with stately furniture for major buildings including Hampton Court Palace, Chiswick House, Devonshire House and Rousham.
Early life
Kent was born in Bridlington, Yorkshire, and baptised, on 1 January 1686, as William Cant.
William Kent (1751 or 1760 – 1812) was an English Royal Navy officer, known for his part in developing British settlement in Australasia.
Life
He was the son of Henry Kent of Newcastle-on-Tyne and his wife Mary, a sister of Governor John Hunter. He was promoted to the rank of lieutenant in 1781, and after service in the English Channel and North Sea was appointed in 1795 to the command of the HMSSupply, in which, on 16 February, he sailed for New South Wales, in company with his uncle, Captain Hunter, in the HMSReliance. The ships arrived at Sydney on 7 September, and for the next five years Kent was employed in the service of the colony, making voyages to Norfolk Island and the Cape of Good Hope, and surveying parts of the coast of New South Wales.
In October 1800 Kent sailed for England in command of Buffalo, and on his arrival was reappointed to her, June 1801, for the return voyage to Sydney, where, in October 1802, he was promoted by the governor, Captain Philip Gidley King, to the rank of commander. The following April he was ordered to go to Norfolk Island with stores, and then through the islands examining their capabilities as to the supply of cattle and forage. He was to go on to Calcutta and bring back as many cows as possible of the best breed. On 19 May he made the south-west coast of New Caledonia, and discovered a harbour, which he named Port St Vincent, where he remained for several weeks.
He was born in Chicago, Illinois on March 29, 1864. His parents, Adaline Elizabeth Dutton and Albert Emmett Kent (A.E. Kent) moved the family to Marin County in California in the year 1871. His father, Albert Emmett Kent had bought 800 acres of valley land that would later become the town Kentfield, California. He was married to Elizabeth Sherman Thacher on February 26, 1890. His wife, Elizabeth Thacher Kent (née Elizabeth Sherman Thacher) was the daughter of Yale professor and administrator Thomas Anthony Thacher. Together they had seven children including sons Sherman Kent (Yale professor and alumni of the US Central Intelligence Agency) and Roger Kent (US politician). His daughter was prominent artist, Adaline Kent.Sherman Day Thacher was his brother-in-law.
"Our Love" is 1939 song that was recorded by Frank Sinatra and was his first recording. Some sources have said that this song was recorded a day before Sinatra married his first wife Nancy or a month later in March. This song would not make Sinatra famous, but in this year he would join the Harry James Orchestra, but left them a year later and in the 1940 would join Tommy Dorsey and his orchestra and Sinatra would make his first hit song I'll Never Smile Again. Sinatra's recording of "Our Love" can be heard on YouTube.com.
Writers were Larry Clinton, Buddy Bernier, and Charles Emmerich. This is one of a group of songs from the Big Band jazz era that were written as popular adaptations of classical music. This song is based upon the Act 2 love theme, "O nüit divine" from the Charles Gounod opera, Romeo et Juliette. The song was recorded again in 1960 by George Greeley on his Warner Bros. (WS-1387) album Popular Piano Concertos of the World's Great Love Themes. Sinatra and Greeley joined the Tommy Dorsey band on the same day, and worked together for a year.
In Dream is the fifth studio album from British recording group Editors. It was produced by the band themselves and released on 2 October 2015 through PIAS Recordings.
Background
On 15 July 2015 the band announced the album via Facebook and said in a statement: "Our last record was the sound of us learning to walk again, with new legs! In Dream, our first self produced album, is us diving into the computer, a real studio record, made in isolation by the 5 of us". According to Tom Smith, the record is driven by a belief that "music can be both pop and experimental."
"It feels like a progression from our third record. It was very electronic, but I feel like the last record had to be a guitar record to prove to ourselves that we could be a band," says Smith. "To us, it's interesting if it has a darkness. Whatever that is. On the lyric side of things, if I was singing about dancefloors or happier or rosier things, it wouldn't ring true for me. I don't think you need to be sad to write a sad song, everybody has a dark side."
William Kent (1881/1882 – 1946) was a Norwegian jurist and civil servant.
From 1934 to his death in 1946 he served as a deputy under-secretary of state in the Norwegian Ministry of Finance. He was also a deputy board member of Statsøkonomisk Forening. His obituary in Verdens Gang noted that he was a "very prominent man in the central administration", and one of Norway's "foremost experts on tax law". He was replaced as deputy under-secretary of state by Kåre Kvisli.
The skill of the Royal Navy's Fleet Protection Team has been demonstrated in a short video produced by HMS Kent's photographic team.
The video of the men from 43 Commando Fleet Protection Group Royal Marines was compiled while the Portsmouth based frigate carried out maritime patrols in the Gulf.
The Fleet Protection Group, based at HM Naval Base Clyde, is made up of three rifle squadrons and an HQ squadron.
It is their role to provide military support to convoys as well as conducting boarding operations on non compliant ships in line with UN resolutions in the Gulf.

British Naval Anthem: Heart of Oak
"Heart of Oak" is the official march of the Royal Navy of the United Kingdom. It is also the official march of several Commonwealth navies, including the Royal Canadian Navy and the Royal New Zealand Navy. It was also the official march of the Royal Australian Navy, but has now been replaced by the new march, "Royal Australian Navy".
The music of "Heart of Oak" was composed by William Boyce, and the words were written by the 18th-century English actor David Garrick. "Heart of Oak" was originally written as part of an opera. It was first played publicly on New Year's Eve of 1760, sung by Samuel Thomas Champnes, one of Handel's soloists, as part of Garrick's pantomime Harlequin's Invasion, at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane.
