George Peter John Criscuola (born December 20, 1945), better known as Peter Criss, is an American musician and actor, best known as a co-founder, the original drummer, and an occasional vocalist of the hard rock band Kiss. Criss established the "Catman" character for his Kiss persona.
Early years
George Peter John Criscuola is the oldest of the five children to parents Joseph and Loretta Criscuola; his father's family came from Scafati, Salerno, Italy. He grew up in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn, New York. He was a childhood friend of Jerry Nolan, who would later find success as the drummer for the New York Dolls.
He was an avid art student and a swing aficionado. While playing with bandleader Joey Greco, Criss ended up studying under his idol, Gene Krupa, at the Metropole Club in New York. This turned into an active musical career as he went on to play jazz and rock with a number of bands in New York and New Jersey throughout the 1960s.
Chelsea
Criss was involved with a number of bands throughout the mid-to-late 1960s. It was during this time that Criss joined Chelsea, who had a two-album deal with Decca Records; the group released a self-titled album in 1970. They never recorded a second album, and in August 1971 became Lips (a trio consisting of Criss and his Chelsea bandmates Michael Benvenga and Stan Penridge). By the spring of 1972, Lips was just the duo of Criss and Penridge.
Peter Criss is a 1978 solo album by Peter Criss, the drummer of American hard rock band Kiss. It was one of four solo albums released by the members of Kiss on September 18, 1978. The album was produced by Vini Poncia, who went on to produce the Kiss albums Dynasty (1979) and Unmasked (1980). Criss covered "Tossin' and Turnin'", which was a #1 hit for Bobby Lewis in the U.S. during the summer of 1961. The song was subsequently covered by Kiss on their 1979 tour. Much of the material on the album was originally written in 1971 for Criss's pre-Kiss band Lips.
Reception
Reviews for Peter Criss were mostly negative. The album was the lowest charting of all the Kiss solo albums of 1978, reaching #43 on the US Billboard album chart. Of the four solo albums, Peter Criss was the only album to have two singles released from it: "Don't You Let Me Down" and "You Matter to Me", neither of which charted.

Cover versions
Harvey Milk covered "Easy Thing" for their compilation album The Singles.
One for All is the fifth studio album by former Kiss drummer and vocalist Peter Criss, released through Megaforce Records on July 23, 2007. It reached #36 on the Billboard Top Independent Album list. A special hand-signed gold label version was released that day at Best Buy stores in limited quantities.
In his autobiography, Makeup to Breakup: My Life In and Out of Kiss, Criss mentioned that the song, "Space Ace" was written about his Kiss bandmate Ace Frehley. He wrote, "I even wrote a song about Ace for the album, "Space Ace". You might think it was a tribute, but I was really writing about Ace’s betrayal of me."

The group was officially formed in 1997 for an engagement at Smalls Jazz Club, and recorded its first album Too Soon Too Tell later that year for the Sharp Nine label. Alexander, Rotondi and Farnsworth had all been acquainted in New York City as far back as 1988, and later Farnsworth introduced Davis to the other musicians. Hazeltine and Peter Washington began performing with the former four players in 1996 at the jazz club Augie's, which would later be re-opened as Smoke, a venue at which the group would eventually record a live album. Washington would later be replaced by John Webber, and the band has since signed to the Criss Cross label. The name One for All is borrowed from the Jazz Messengers' last album.
One for All is the final studio album by drummer Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers recorded in 1990 and released on the A&M label.
Reception
Scott Yanow of Allmusic stated "The final recording by Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers found the 70-year old drummer (just months before his death) doing what he loved best, leading a group of young players through hard-swinging and generally new music in the hard-bop style... A satisfying final effort from an irreplaceable drummer and bandleader".

"One for All (And All for One)" (Steve Davis) - 6:40
One For All" : The lead-off and title track from Peter's 2007 solo album. This song was inspired by the events of, and resulting from, 9-11-01 and Peter's perspective as a Brooklyn native of the shock and horror of that day. According to Peter, "I went to Church that day and coming home, watching it on television, it was so surreal, but I knew I wanted to do something" (PR). And Peter certainly did do something appearing at the "Families of Freedom" benefit at the City Center in Manhattan on November 20, 2002. Peter performed "Beth" with a backing band comprised of Felica Collins, Dr. Gibbs, Scott Yahney, and Dave Matos. Peter's song features the backing vocals of the Church of Transfiguration Boys Choir.
