State Route 116 travels through the western Ohio counties of Auglaize and Van Wert. No portion of this route is included within the National Highway System, a network of highways deemed most imperative for the nation's economy, mobility and defense.
History
State Route 116's designation was assigned in 1923. For the first two years of its existence, the routing of State Route 116 included the present routing of State Route 198 from downtown Wapakoneta northwest to State Route 117 east of Spencerville, State Route 117 from that point west to its eastern intersection with State Route 116, and the present alignment of State Route 116 from there to its northern terminus in Van Wert. In 1925, State Route 116 was re-routed onto its present alignment from State Route 117 south to St. Marys. Prior to that time, this current segment of State Route 116 was designated as State Route 198. The former portions of State Route 116 were re-designated as State Route 117 and State Route 198, respectively, at that time.
NY116 begins at an intersection with US202 (North Somerstown Road) in the hamlet of Somers, a couple blocks east of the northern terminus of NY100. The route proceeds east for one block through a mixed-use area as Somerstown Road, a two-lane street, before bending southeast and changing names to Purdys Road as it leaves the community. Outside of Somers, the businesses give way to residences comprising the hamlet of Lake Purdy, a large residential community off the main roadway. At Lake Purdy, the road turns to take a more easterly track into the town of North Salem, where it crosses the Croton River and passes into the hamlet of Purdys. As NY116 heads toward the community's center, it crosses over the Metro-North Railroad's Harlem Line and serves the hamlet's Metro-North station.
State Route 69 (SR 69) is a primary state highway in the U.S. state of Virginia. Known as Lead Mine Road, the state highway runs 3.59 miles (5.78km) from SR 636 in Austinville east to U.S. Route 52 (US 52) in Poplar Camp. SR 69 is the last remnant of a much longer route. At its peak from 1940 to 1945, this route (then numbered State Route 81) ran from State Route 91 at Lodi east via St. Clair Bottom, Sugar Grove, Cedar Springs, Speedwell, Porters Crossroads, and Austinville to today's SR 69. However, it was never fully continuous; portions from Sugar Grove to Cedar Springs and west of Porters Crossroads to east of Austinville were secondary routes. The full length of this route as it existed and was planned is now part of SR 762, part of SR 660, all of SR 650, part of SR 16 (and SR 695, its former alignment at Sugar Grove), all of SR 614, part of SR 749, part of US 21, part of SR 690, a small piece of SR 642, part of SR 619, part of SR 636, and SR 69.
Route 116 is a highway in northern Missouri. Its eastern terminus is at Route A in Braymer; its western terminus is at U.S. Route 59 in Rushville. A state numbered highway ending at a lettered highway is a rarity in Missouri.
Route 116 from Plattsburg to U.S. Route 169 was originally part of Route 33 until that highway was re-routed.
SR116 begins at an intersection with SR219, west of Hamilton, in Harris County. This intersection also marks the southern terminus of SR103. Almost immediately is an interchange with Interchange 185 (I-185; Chet Atkins Parkway). In Hamilton is a very brief concurrency with US27/SR1 (Old College Street). Northeast of here is Pine Mountain Valley, where the road intersects the southern terminus of SR354. SR116 travels to the east into the town of Shiloh. There, it begins a concurrency with US27 Alternate/SR85 Alternate to the south. Just southeast of that intersection, the two routes run along the Harris–Talbot county line for a short while. To the south, the two routes meet SR85 (Warm Springs Road). At this intersection, SR85 Alternate meets its southern terminus. Also, SR116 joins US27 Alternate/SR85 to the northeast. Immediately, it enters Talbot County. When SR116 splits from the concurrency, it heads east-northeast. Then, it curves to the northeast just before it meets its eastern terminus, an intersection with SR41 northwest of Woodland.
State Route 116 (SR 116) is a primary state highway in the U.S. state of Virginia. The state highway runs 20.66 miles (33.25km) from SR 122 at Burnt Chimney north to SR 101 in Roanoke. SR 116 connects northwestern Franklin County with the southeastern part of Roanoke. The state highway forms a major street through Downtown Roanoke and the city's north side.
Route description
SR 116 begins at an intersection SR 122 (Booker T. Washington Highway) at the hamlet of Burnt Chimney. The state highway heads northwest as Jubal Early Highway, a two-lane road that passes through northwestern Franklin County. After passing through the foothills, SR 116 has a short but steep and curvaceous crossing of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The state highway descends from the summit then has a short climb to Windy Gap, where the highway enters Roanoke County. SR 116 descends to Back Creek and continues northwest as Jae Valley Road, which passes under the Blue Ridge Parkway with no access. The state highway enters the city of Roanoke as Mount Pleasant Boulevard, then veers west as Riverland Road, which parallels the Roanoke River on the northeastern flank of Mill Mountain, down the slope from the Roanoke Star. SR 116 follows Riverland Road to Piedmont Street, onto which the highway turns south for one block to Walnut Street. The state highway uses a viaduct to cross the Roanoke River and the intersection of Norfolk Southern Railway's Winston-Salem and Altavista district rail lines just north of the historic Virginian Railway Passenger Station. Immediately after passing under U.S. Route 220 (US 220) (Roy L. Webber Expressway), SR 116 turns north onto four-lane Jefferson Street to pass through the Old Southwest neighborhood and by the Jefferson College of Health Sciences.
