Maurice Samuel Young (born September 23, 1974), better known by his stage name Trick Daddy, is an American rapper, actor, and producer from Miami's Liberty City.
Music career
Trick appeared on the track "Scarred" by former 2 Live Crew member Luther "Luke" Campbell, Produced by Darren "DJ Spin" Rudnick, from Luke's 1996 album Uncle Luke. The song became a hit and immediately caught the attention of fans and record producers alike. Ted Lucas, a former concert promoter and then-CEO of Slip-n-Slide Records, signed the rapper to the newly formed record label. Slip-n-Slide released Trick Daddy Dollars' debut album Based on a True Story in 1997; the album was popular in the Miami area.
In 1998, when his next album www.thug.com was released, Trick removed "Dollars" from his stage name. Club-oriented track "Nann Nigga", featuring Trina, became a national hit, peaking at the third spot of the Billboard Hot Rap Singles chart.Atlantic Records signed Trick Daddy to the label in 2000 and released Book of Thugs: Chapter AK Verse 47 that year. "Shut Up", which Jason Birchmeier of allmusic considered Trick's "rowdiest club hit yet", was the lead single from Book of Thugs. His next single, "America" (featuring Society), was a poignant political track that writer Omar Burgess compared to other sociological tracks in Trick's catalog such as "Ain't No Santa".
Lulu would later opine of the producers of her album New Routes: Atlantic Record honchos Jerry Wexler, Tom Dowd and Arif Mardin: "I don't think they knew what to do with me, and the only big hit I got [off the album] was a song that I [brought in] with me" - referring to "Oh Me Oh My..." which had been written by Jim Doris who – as Jimmy Doris – had been vocalist-guitarist for the Stoics, a band which formed in Lulu's native Glasgow in the late 1960s and whose membership had included Frankie Miller. (Doris contributed another song to New Routes]: "After All (I Live My Life)", and his composition "Take Good Care of Yourself" was featured on the follow-up album Melody Fair. Reportedly Doris subsequently went into A&R work before being sidelined by mental instability which factored into his being killed when run over by a bus in London in the late 1980s or early 1990s.)
Oh Me Oh My (full title Oh Me Oh My...The Way the Day Goes By the Sun Is Setting Dogs Are Dreaming Lovesongs of the Christmas Spirit) is the second album by Devendra Banhart. Its name was taken from the lyrics of one of Banhart's earliest songs, "Sunrise (A Long Time Ago)". It was the first release by Devendra on Young God Records and it came out on October 28, 2002.
