North Point is bounded by Hing Fat Street (興發街) to the west and by Mansion Street (民新街) to the east, by Victoria Harbour to the north and Braemar Hill to the south. The Fortress Hill area forms the westernmost part of North Point, while the Tsat Tsz Mui area is located in its easternmost part.
History
Parts of North Point have been inhabited since before the British arrived in the mid-19th century. The Metropole Hotel was built in 1899 and was used until 1906. In 1919, the Hongkong Electric Company started operation of the territory's second power station at North Point. In the 1920s, Ming Yuen Amusement Park became a popular entertainment venues on the Island. During the 1930s, the beaches of North Point became one of the most popular places for holding swimming gala in Hong Kong. In 1938, the North Point Refugee Camp was built to accommodate the influx of refugees from the Mainland. The camp comprised 26 huts. Access to the camp was via Kam Hong Road and Marble Road. During World War II, the camp was renamed the North Point Camp, and used as a prisoner of war camp for captured Canadian soldiers during the Japanese occupation.
This station was opened in 1985 upon the completion of the Island Line. Until 2001, the station was only used by that line, and the layout of the station at that time featured a stacked side platform arrangement with trains running towards Sheung Wan Station operating on the level above trains running towards Chai Wan Station. Between 2001 and 2002, this station was expanded to facilitate a cross-platform interchange with the Tseung Kwan O Line. A new platform was constructed on each level opposite the existing platform and the station served as the temporary terminus of Kwun TongLine. On August 4, 2002, the section of Tseung Kwan OLine from this station to Yau Tong was opened to allow passengers to develop familiarity with the new cross-harbour interchange arrangement. Since August 18, 2002, this station serves as the interchange station between the two lines as well as the terminus of Tseung Kwan OLine.
North Point High School is a school for science, technology, and industry. It is located in the far western area of Waldorf, Maryland, United States. At 311,000 square feet (28,900m2) and with about 2,200 students enrolled, it is the largest high school in Charles County. It is also the second newest high school, having opened its doors in 2005. Its mascot, the Eagle, was derived from the motto of Charles County, "The wild side of the Potomac... Where eagles soar!"

North Point has 17 science, technology and industry (referred to as STI) programs. An estimated half of the student body is enrolled in one of these programs, while the other half receives a normal high school education.
The precise stage of schooling provided by a high school differs from country to country, and may vary within the same jurisdiction. In all of New Zealand and Malaysia, along with most of Britain and parts of Australia, Bangladesh and Canada, high school means the same thing as secondary school, but instead of starting in 9th grade, these "secondary schools" begin at ages 11 or 12.

History
The United States historically had a demand for general skills rather than specific training/apprenticeships. High school enrollment increased when schools at this level became free, laws required children to attend until a certain age, and it was believed that every American student had the opportunity to participate regardless of their ability.
In 1892, in response to many competing academic philosophies being promoted at the time, a working group of educators, known as the "Committee of Ten" was established by the National Education Association. It recommended twelve years of instruction, consisting of eight years of elementary education followed by four years of high school. Rejecting suggestions that high schools should divide students into college-bound and working-trades groups from the start, and in some cases also by race or ethnic background, they unanimously recommended that "every subject which is taught at all in a secondary school should be taught in the same way and to the same extent to every pupil so long as he pursues it, no matter what the probable destination of the pupil may be, or at what point his education is to cease."
