P&O Cruises Caribbean port guide - Things to do in Martinique?
Welcome to my Caribbean Cruise port Guide - What to do in Martinique - Episode 7
If you are visiting Martinique my top tip would be to book an excursion in advance. We decided to get off and do our own thing but the queue along the jetty was so long by the time we queued and got to the beach we had in mind it would have been time to come home.
As i say in my video I have used the Facebook Group Caribbean Island Tours many times and they have some amazing excursions in Martinique that I would recommend. I have listed them here :-
Caribbean Pirates Tour
• Visit at the “village de la poterie” (potter village)
• Tour around the south-eastern coast
• Beach Anse d’arlet with bathing possibility
• Panoramic view on the “Rocher du diamant”
• Rum factory “Trois-Rivieres”
• Beach “Les Salines"

France: Island of Martinique Erupts Over Skyrocketing Food Prices | Firstpost America
Martinique, a picturesque French Caribbean island, is gripped by violent protests as residents revolt against skyrocketing living costs. Food prices are 40% higher than in mainland France, pushing people to the brink. What began as peaceful demonstrations have spiralled into chaos—burning barricades, looted stores, and clashes with police. One person has already been killed, and over two dozen officers have been injured. The government has imposed a curfew and banned public gatherings, but tensions remain high. Protesters demand urgent action to align local prices with those of France, as frustration over economic inequality fuels the island's growing unrest.

In the last episode you saw us on Barbados. Our cottage at Silver Sands Beach was perfect, overlooking the Caribbean Sea. We rented a car, cruised around the entire island and visited all the major sights and beaches: Miami Beach, Brownes Beach, Bridgetown, Paynes Bay, Animal Flower Cave, Bathsheba & the Soup Bowl and Bottom Bay. Before this we were on Dominica. CNN Travel listed the island among the most beautiful places on earth. We stayed in a tree house overlooking the jungle, swam through the Titou Gorge (made famous by Pirates of the Caribbean) and we explored the mountains full of waterfalls. Be sure to watch these episodes too!
The entire trip started already months ago in the Dominican Republic. We hopped over to Puerto Rico and visited Anguilla, Saint Martin, Saint Barth, Saint Kitts & Nevis and Antigua. After this episode we visit Saint Lucia, Grenada, Tobago and the Bahamas. Follow us on this Caribbean tour, now on Martinique and then in many other beautiful destinations in the Caribbean Sea. We travel non-stop all year round and film everything, with a new episode every week. Also take a look at instagram @woutoftheworld or www.woutoftheworld.com

Martinique is part of Caribbean France, also known as the French Antilles. The island is especially popular with French tourists, but actually a great destination for Europeans or Americans. Martinique is definitely worth it, especially because flying to this island is not very expensive from Paris, LA, London or Amsterdam. What is there to do? Amazing beaches, waterfalls, a special botanical garden and endless tropical rainforest! Watch the video and see how we start a trip through the Caribbean in Martinique.
From Martinique we visit many more hidden gems in the Caribbean, but now you can already see some of the highlights. We sleep in Saint Pierre, visit the top of Mont Pelée, stand under the waterfall Saut Gendarme, snorkel in Anse Dufour and Anne Noire and stroll over the most beautiful beaches called Plage du Diamant and Plage des Salines. Also, the video shows many different accommodations in very different areas on the island.
This year we travel all over the world and after the Canary Islands, Oman and Cape Verde, Martinique is our fourth destination. Follow us on this world trip, first in Martinique and then to many more beautiful destinations! We travel non-stop all year round and film everything. Welcome to our fourth P&O Arvia Caribbean cruise series vlog! Today, P&O Arvia is in Martinique and we've got an exciting day planned as we've booked another excursion with Caribbean Island Tours on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/caribbeanislandtours/
Todays excursion takes us around the south coast of Martinique and includes the following stops:
We visit at the "village de la poterie" (potter village) before we have a chance to snorkle at Beach Anse d'arlet . After that we head to the view point for "Rocher du diamant" and then try shots of rum at rum factory "Trois-Rivieres". To end the day we visit the stunning beach of "Les Salines" before finally return via the south-western coast.
Back onboard we spend some more time at the swim up bar before heading to the Glass House for dinner - we also witness the spectacular pop up show in the main atrium.
Our vlogs aim to bring you along with us, they are fun and hopefully informative, if you are looking for in-depth information rather than a vlog be sure to check out our P&O Arvia Lets Talk Ship reviews over on our playlist: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MjTgeP0Iv8Y&list=PLlyIX6uGK99TESOjNSGqjma4KOqlHRHHJ

🐒🍌🚢 About Us - Who are the Cruise Monkeys?
We are bananas about cruising! We started cruising in 2014 by doing a mini cruise on P&O Aurora. Making videos of our cruises and sharing our experiences has become our hobby – the complete video is filmed and edited on an iPhone. The videos are our opinions and experiences while on board - really they are us having fun and brining you along with us!
We may not be the youngest cruisers but we are trying to break the stereotype that cruising is for retired people. On a cruise you will normally find us wondering around the ship taking in the atmosphere (and working our way through the cocktails).
We have sailed on P&O Cruises, Cunard Line, Princess Cruises, MSC Cruises, Royal Caribbean and Avalon Waterways. We'd love to try Ambassador Cruise Line, Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL), Fred Olsen, Holland America (HAL), Celebrity, Disney Cruises, Carnival Cruises, Costa, Aida, Marella and Celestyal.

The island of Martinique is a piece of France in the Caribbean, between Florida and South America. And of course, Savoir-vivre applies just as it does on the other side of the Atlantic, between the English Channel and the Mediterranean.
Jacky Pascault is the first and only man to cultivate mushrooms in the Caribbean. Everywhere else, they grow on artificially fertilised soil, but Jacky's Champignons Tropicaux flourish on sugar cane fibres.
Nicole Vilo tailors hats and dresses out of coconut palms. Of course, the catwalk for the models wearing her first collection is one of the countless dream beaches. The Martiniquais sail on boats they call Yole, which have no keel and are therefore difficult to navigate. The crew members hang over the water in breakneck fashion on long wooden poles. Just the job for Yole-boss Max' "problem kids": they not only learn complicated handling, but also team spirit.

French and Indian War Era, 1750-1763 | Britain, France, & North America | Amherst & Montcalm
This program covers the French and Indian War period, the years 1750-1763. The French and Indian War began in 1754.
The French and Indian War is a critical period in American colonial history. It resulted in Britain removing French colonies and posts from North America.
In 1750, France had a large trading system with Native Americans that stretched from the St. Lawrence River across Canada, the Great Lakes, down the Mississippi River to New Orleans.
However, the British were entering the Ohio Valley. George Croghan and Christopher Gist were founding trading posts at places like Logstown in Pennsylvania and Pickawillany in the Ohio country. By 1750, France and Britain are converging on the Forks of the Ohio, the site of modern Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Ep 25. Strange tales podcast-The siege of Havana
The siege of Havana was a successful British siege against Spanish-ruled Havana that lasted from March to August 1762, as part of the Seven Years' War. After Spain abandoned its former policy of neutrality by signing the family compact with France, resulting in a British declaration of war on Spain in January 1762, the British government decided to mount an attack on the important Spanish fortress and naval base of Havana, with the intention of weakening the Spanish presence in the Caribbean and improving the security of its own North American colonies. A strong British naval force consisting of squadrons from Britain and the West Indies, and the military force of British and American troops it convoyed, were able to approach Havana from a direction that neither the Spanish governor nor th...

The 18th Century | Seapower to Superpower
This episode is concerned primarily with the battles between France, the greatest land power, and Britain, the greatest seapower, for world dominance. Program two includes the Battle for Quebec and the American Revolution and traces the decisive role played by naval power in both conflicts.
England's Royal Navy preserved its empire and gave it military dominance of the world for more than 350 years. In the 20th century, that dominance would pass from Britain to America and eventually, from sea to space. The English language owes its success as the world language to this fundamental military reality -- whoever controls the great commons of the sea and space dominates the world.

The French have built a chain of forts down from Lake Erie in 1753, including Fort Presque Isle, Fort Le Boeuf, and Fort Machault. In 1754, the British send George Washington to assist the Ohio Company in building a fort at the Ohio Forks.
However, when Washington is at Will's Creek, in Cumberland, Maryland, he learns that the Forks have been occupied by the French. He nevertheless presses on. He skirmishes with the French at Jumonville Glen, resulting in the death of Jumonville, a French official. The French and Indians counterattack, defeating Washington at Fort Necessity.
In 1755, the British attempt to take Fort Duquesne at the Forks of the Ohio. Braddock leads the redcoats through the woods, but they are destroyed.
The French and Natives, including Ojibwa, Ottawa, and Huron (Wyandot) warriors attack settlements in Pennsylvania and Virginia.
In 1757, the French general Montcalm takes Fort William Henry on Lake George in New York. An ambush on the retreating British en route to Fort Edward will be remembered in James Fenimore Cooper's "Last of the Mohicans."
In 1758, William Pitt, a British statesman, emerges as a major strategist. He presses for a three-pronged attack on the French, including a renewed effort against Fort Duquesne, a counterattack on Lake George and Lake Champlain, and an effort against Fortress Louisbourg on Cape Breton Island.
General Forbes secures Fort Duquesne, which will become Fort Pitt. General Amherst secures Louisbourg in Canada. However, Montcalm stops Abercromby (or Abercrombie) at Fort Carillon in New York.
1759 is the year of miracles for the British. Quebec falls to Wolfe.
In 1760, the British converge on Montreal. The Governor-General of Canada, Vaudreuil, surrenders.
The French and Indian War in North America is over. However, the Seven Year's War, as it is known in Europe, continues. Britain is sided with Prussia and Hanover, while France, Spain, Russia, Sweden, and Saxony are allied on the other side.
Fighting in the Americas continues in the Caribbean. Britain seizes French Guadeloupe and Martinique. Britain also seizes Havana in Cuba.
In 1763, George III assumes the throne. Peace is secured in Paris. Britain acquires French North America east of the Mississippi. Spain assumes France's western holdings and New Orleans. Britain returns Cuba to Spain, and the sugar islands also go back to France.
Pontiac leads an inter-tribal alliance against the British. Pontiac's Rebellion of 1763 sees many British forts under attack. Fort Detroit and Fort Pitt push back the attacks. However, George III wants peace. He issues a Proclamation of 1763 which forbids white settlement beyond the Appalachian Mountains.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:

- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! The Seven Years' War was a global conflict fought between 1756 and 1763. It involved every European great power of the time and spanned five continents, affecting Europe, the Americas, West Africa, India, and the Philippines. The conflict split Europe into two coalitions, led by the Kingdom of Great Britain (including the Kingdom of Prussia, the Kingdom of Portugal, the Electorate of Brunswick-Lüneburg, and other small German states) on one side and the Kingdom of France (including the Austrian-led Holy Roman Empire), the Russian Empire (until 1762), the Kingdom of Spain, and the Swedish Empire on the other. Meanwhile, in India, some regional polities within the increasingly fragmented Mughal Empire, with the support of the French, tried to crush a British attempt to conquer Bengal. The war's extent has led some historians to describe it as "World War Zero", similar in scale to other world wars.Although Anglo-French skirmishes over their American colonies had begun with what became the French and Indian War in 1754, the large-scale conflict that drew in most of the European powers was centered on Austria's desire to recover Silesia from the Prussians. Seeing the opportunity to curtail Britain's and Prussia's ever-growing might, France and Austria put aside their ancient rivalry to form a grand coalition of their own, bringing most of the other European powers to their side. Faced with this sudden turn of events, Britain aligned itself with Prussia, in a series of political manoeuvres known as the Diplomatic Revolution. However, French efforts ended in failure when the Anglo-Prussian coalition prevailed, and Britain's rise as among the world's predominant powers destroyed France's supremacy in Europe, thus altering the European balance of power.

A strong British naval force consisting of squadrons from Britain and the West Indies, and the military force of British and American troops it convoyed, were able to approach Havana from a direction that neither the Spanish governor nor the Admiral expected and were able to trap the Spanish fleet in the Havana harbour and land its troops with relatively little resistance.
The surrender of Havana led to substantial rewards for the British naval and military leaders and smaller amounts of prize money for other officers and men. The Spanish governor, Admiral and other military and civil office holders were court-martialed upon their return to Spain and punished for their failures to conduct a better defense and allowing the Spanish fleet present to fall intact into the hands of the British. Havana remained under British occupation until February 1763, when it was returned to Spain under the 1763 Treaty of Paris that formally ended the war.
