United Kingdom is the fourth album by American Music Club. It was recorded primarily for the UK, where the band had a larger following than in their native USA, and consists of a mixture of studio and live tracks. The LP was produced by Tom Mallon who also produced the band's previous three LPs, The Restless Stranger, Engine and California. United Kingdom contained the song "Kathleen", the most obvious of many that Mark Eitzel has composed about his long-term muse, Kathleen Burns.
Some statutory nature reserves are designated by national bodies in the United Kingdom, and are known as national nature reserves.
Great Britain
In Great Britain, nature reserves designed under Part III of the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act 1949 that are deemed to be of national importance may be designated as statutory 'national nature reserves' by the relevant national nature conservation body (Natural England, Scottish Natural Heritage, or Natural Resources Wales) using section 35(1) of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.
If a nature reserve is designated by a local authority in Great Britain, then the resulting statutory nature reserve will be referred to as a local nature reserve.
From late 2012, governance of the NNR designation in Scotland is through a partnership group, comprising representatives of existing reserve management organisations and community land groups, chaired by Scottish Natural Heritage. Scottish Natural Heritage is still responsible for the formal/legal declaration of national nature reserves.
The period began with the newly formed United Kingdom defeating the French Empire in 1814 in the Napoleonic Wars. As a direct result of this, the British Empire became the foremost world power for the next century. Great Britain and the northeast of Ireland industrialised rapidly, whereas the rest of Ireland did not, deepening economic and social disparities between them. A devastating famine, exacerbated by government inaction in the mid-19th century, led to demographic collapse in much of Ireland, and increased calls for Irish land reform and the devolution of executive power. During and after the Great War, the rise of Irish nationalism and physical force republicanism eventually culminated in the Irish War of Independence, and in 1922 the partition of Ireland between the newly founded Irish Free State and the northeast, which opted to remain part of the United Kingdom as Northern Ireland.
Richmond Park – National Nature Reserve, presented by Sir David Attenborough, is an award-winning film by conservation charity the Friends of Richmond Park. Filmed by experienced wildlife film makers (including a leading cameraman from Blue Planet II). The film won first prize in the 2018 Charity Film Awards in the 'Documentary/Long Form' category. Sir David explains in the film: “Richmond Park is not just a local park it's London's own National Nature Reserve with thousands of species of flora and fauna; but with 5.5 million visitors each year, the Park is under immense pressure. However, as visitors we can all help to protect it through simple actions so that it will remain a wonderful place for the enjoyment of future generations”.

What are National Nature Reserves?
Britain has a network of National Nature Reserves, but what is their function and why should anybody care? Phil travels to an example in North Yorkshire – the Lower Derwent Valley – to find out. Warning: may contain traces of owls.

Wyre Forest becomes largest woodland National Nature Reserve
Wyre Forest has become the largest woodland National Nature Reserve (NNR) in England.
NNRs are designated by Natural England, and this declaration recognises the way in which Wyre Forest has been sustainably managed. The Wyre Forest reserve, which straddles the Worcestershire and Shropshire border, has been extended by almost 900 hectares so that it now spreads over 1,455 hectares.
Wyre is one of the largest ancient oak woodlands in the country and is jointly managed by Forestry England and Natural England, with small areas of Worcestershire Wildlife Trust land. This multi-partnership approach means that the forest managed in a way which has long-term positive effects on wildlife, people and the climate, both now and in the future.

On 25 July South London Downs was declared an NNR. With rolling chalk hills and stunning views, it will benefit South London’s wildlife, people and nature.
Kingcombe Meadows and Powerstock Common have been designated by Natural England as a new joint National Nature Reserve (NNR): the Kingcombe NNR.
NNRs showcase the best of conserved habitats and support engagement with nature for education and wellbeing. Natural England have designated over 200 of these gold-standard havens for wildlife across the country, joining up nature reserves in a growing Nature Recovery Network where wildlife can thrive and spread.
It's great to see these wildlife havens recognised for their value to wildlife including marsh fritillary butterflies, bee orchids and bats, as well as their potential for research, education and connecting with nature.
