Swanscombe Peninsula designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest 📣🙌🏽
We are excited to have our Wilder Towns Officer Nicky show us around the newly-designated Swanscombe Peninsula Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). This decision from Natural England offers the site special conservation protection, as it recognises that the marshes are of high conservation value and of particular interest to science, due to the unique and biodiverse wildlife and plant species found there.
Kent Wildlife Trust, CPRE Kent, RSPB Love Nature, Buglife - The Invertebrate Conservation Trust and Save Swanscombe Peninsula are still working together to fight the building of the London Resort Theme Park on the marshes.
We are thrilled by the decision unanimous decision to protect this site, but we still need your help! You can sign this petition to show your support 👉 bit.ly...

Stealth Camping At A Site Of Special Scientific Interest
JOIN ME on this solo overnight stealth camp at a Site Of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI)! This particular location is rich in archaeology from the Mesolithic all the way up to World War II. The summit of the hill consists of an Iron Age Hill Fort and Bronze Age Barrows and if all that history isn't enough, the location is also said to have a Ley Line running through it.
I begin by scouting the top of the hill - my original idea of a camping pitch. However, I soon realised that the wind was going to be an issue - not only an issue for audio but I cannot stand the wind! This is a list of the Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs) in Hampshire, England, United Kingdom. In England the body responsible for designating SSSIs is Natural England, which chooses a site because of its fauna, flora, geological or physiographical features. Natural England uses the borders of Hampshire to mark one of its Areas of Search. As of 2012, there are 118 sites designated in this Area of Search. There are 4 sites with a purely geological interest, and 108 listed for biological interest. A further 6 sites are designated for both reasons.
Natural England took over the role of designating and managing SSSIs from English Nature in October 2006 when it was formed from the amalgamation of English Nature, parts of the Countryside Agency and the Rural Development Service. Natural England, like its predecessor, uses the 1974–1996 county system and as such the same approach is followed here. The data in the table is taken from Natural England in the form of citation sheets for each SSSI, and the County Background Datasheet for Hampshire. For other counties, see List of SSSIs by Area of Search.
