Mohair/ˈmoʊhɛər/ is usually a silk-like fabric or yarn made from the hair of the Angora goat.
Both durable and resilient, mohair is notable for its high luster and sheen, which has helped give it the nickname the "Diamond Fiber", and is often used in fiber blends to add these qualities to a textile. Mohair takes dye exceptionally well. Mohair is warm in winter as it has excellent insulating properties, while remaining cool in summer due to its moisture wicking properties. It is durable, naturally elastic, flame resistant and crease resistant. It is considered to be a luxury fiber, like cashmere, angora and silk, and is usually more expensive than most wool that comes from sheep.
Mohair is composed mostly of keratin, a protein found in the hair, wool, horns and skin of all mammals. While it has scales like wool, the scales are not fully developed, merely indicated. Thus, mohair does not felt as wool does.
Mohair fiber is approximately 25–45 microns in diameter. It increases in diameter with the age of the goat, growing along with the animal. Fine hair from younger animals is used for finer applications such as clothing, and the thicker hair from older animals is more often used for carpets and heavy fabrics intended for outerwear.
Mohair was a British rock band from Watford, England, that formed in 1998 and split after a final show at The Horn Reborn in St Albans on 28 September 2007.
Early Years
Mohair featured Pete Baker (drums, brass), Tom Billington (guitar, vocals), Alex Richards (keyboards, vocals), and Tim Slade (bass, vocals). The members of this rock quartet had played in various bands since their early teens, most notably a Commitments cover band. In 1998 the band started gigging locally in various line-ups, going by the name of Trooper. By 2001, they attracted the attention of a small indie label, M1 records – and after changing their name to Mohair (due to a Canadian band already having the name Trooper), the four childhood friends were eager to make their rock and roll dreams a reality.
After signing with M1 Records in October 2001, Mohair spent much of the next 3 years touring throughout the UK. In March 2002 the band made their USA debut with performances at The Cat Club and The Roxy in Los Angeles – and by summer 2004 the band had played over 300 gigs and appeared at every major UK festival. However, their first 2 'official' single releases (discounting their promo CD 'Octopus Chunks') arrived to little fanfare, resulting in the group parting ways with M1 Records in June 2004.
In this video, I delve into common questions surrounding knitting with mohair yarn, drawing from my own experiences and insights. I address concerns about how mohair interacts with stitch patterns, its role in stabilizing Superwash wool, and the ethical considerations of mohair production. Throughout the discussion, I offer practical tips and guidance to help you navigate the world of mohair knitting with confidence. Whether you're an experienced knitter or just starting out, join me as I share valuable knowledge and inspiration for your next project.

Tips from the Dyeing Studio #6: Choosing a good mohair yarn pairing!
Today I’m chatting about the effects of solid/tonal mohair/Suri colorways paired with variegated “base yarns” in this episode of ‘Tips from the Dye Studio’. This is really just a stream of consciousness-style observation about how these pretty Mohair/suri pairings, though beautiful in skeins, squished up together in a bouquet of possibility, can actually create an effect that is unexpected and in some cases.... DISAPPOINTING. 😨😱. But never fear! I have ideas and a potential alternative that allows you to still create perfectly complimentary mohair/suri pairings that you’re sure to love.
Enjoy!

Tips for Knitting with Mohair Yarn
Eunny talks mohair, the hair of the angora goat, which is a unique yarn that is finer the younger the animal. Although beautiful, mohair can be difficult to knit with, so Eunny shares her tips for dealing with common mistakes: using a blunt knitting needle so the yarn is less likely to spilt, unknitting a project in mohair to fix mistakes as opposed to ripping stitches out, and a quick tip for brushing your projects to get the mohair to showcase itself for a designer look.

Enjoy!
