The 2006 Lebanon War, also called the 2006 Israel–Hezbollah War and known in Lebanon as the July War (Arabic:حرب تموز, Ḥarb Tammūz) and in Israel as the Second Lebanon War (Hebrew:מלחמת לבנון השנייה, Milhemet Levanon HaShniya), was a 34-day military conflict in Lebanon, Northern Israel and the Golan Heights. The principal parties were Hezbollah paramilitary forces and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). The conflict started on 12 July 2006, and continued until a United Nations-brokered ceasefire went into effect in the morning on 14 August 2006, though it formally ended on 8 September 2006 when Israel lifted its naval blockade of Lebanon. Due to unprecedented Iranian military support to Hezbollah before and during the war, some consider it the first round of the Iran–Israel proxy conflict, rather than a continuation of the Arab–Israeli conflict.
The conflict was precipitated by the Zar'it-Shtula incident. On 12 July 2006, Hezbollah fighters fired rockets at Israeli border towns as a diversion for an anti-tank missile attack on two armored Humvees patrolling the Israeli side of the border fence. The ambush left three soldiers dead. Two Israeli soldiers were abducted and taken by Hezbollah to Lebanon. Five more were killed in Lebanon, in a failed rescue attempt. Hezbollah demanded the release of Lebanese prisoners held by Israel in exchange for the release of the abducted soldiers. Israel refused and responded with airstrikes and artillery fire on targets in Lebanon. Israel attacked both Hezbollah military targets and Lebanese civilian infrastructure, including Beirut's Rafic Hariri International Airport. The IDF launched a ground invasion of Southern Lebanon. Israel also imposed an air and naval blockade. Hezbollah then launched more rockets into northern Israel and engaged the IDF in guerrilla warfare from hardened positions.
This is a list of modern conflicts in the Middle East ensuing in the geographic and political region known as the Middle East. The "Middle East" is traditionally defined as the Fertile Crescent (Mesopotamia), Levant, and the Delta of the Nile and neighboring areas of Arabia, Anatolia and Iran. It currently encompasses the area from Egypt, Turkey and Cyprus in the west to Iran and the Persian Gulf in the east, and from Turkey and Iran in the north, to Yemen and Oman in the south.
Conflicts are separate incidents with at least 100 casualties, and are listed by total deaths, including sub-conflicts.
The term "modern" refers to the post-Ottoman period, in other words, since 1918.
Ben Gurion Airport is considered to be among the five best airports in the Middle East due to its passenger experience and its high level of security. Security forces such as Israel Police officers, IDF and Israel Border Police soldiers are complemented by airport security guards who operate both in uniform and undercover to maintain a high level of vigilance to detect any possible threats. The airport has been the target of several terrorist attacks, but no attempt to hijack a plane departing from Ben Gurion airport has succeeded.
Israel (/ˈɪzreɪəl/ or /ˈɪzriːəl/; Hebrew:יִשְׂרָאֵלYisrā'el; Arabic:إِسْرَائِيلIsrāʼīl), officially the State of Israel (Hebrew:מְדִינַת יִשְׂרָאֵלMedīnat Yisrā'el[mediˈnat jisʁaˈʔel]; Arabic:دولة إِسْرَائِيلDawlat Isrāʼīl[dawlat ʔisraːˈʔiːl]), is a country in the Middle East, situated at the southeastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea and the northern shore of the Gulf of Aqaba in the Red Sea. It shares land borders with Lebanon to the north, Syria in the northeast, Jordan on the east, the Palestinian territories (which are claimed by the State of Palestine and are partially controlled by Israel) comprising the West Bank and Gaza Strip to the east and west, respectively, and Egypt to the southwest. It contains geographically diverse features within its relatively small area. Israel's financial and technology center is Tel Aviv, while Jerusalem is both its self-designated capital (unrecognised by the United Nations) and its most populous individual city under the country's governmental administration. Israeli sovereignty over Jerusalem is internationally disputed.
Israel David Bascón Gigato (born 16 March 1987 in Utrera, Seville), known simply as Israel, is a Spanish professional footballer who plays as a right midfielder.
During the 2006 off-season, in August, vastly underplayed at Betis due to the presence of Joaquín in his position, Israel spent time at Chelsea on trial after a move to Real Madrid Castilla failed to materialise. His trial was unsuccessful, however, and the player then left for Mérida UD on a loan deal.
The Land of Israel (Hebrew: אֶרֶץ יִשְׂרָאֵלʼÉreṣ Yiśrāʼēl, Eretz Yisrael) is one of several names for an area of indefinite geographical extension in the Southern Levant. Related biblical, religious and historical English terms include the Land of Canaan, the Promised Land, the Holy Land, and Palestine (q.v. Israel (disambiguation)). The definitions of the limits of this territory vary between passages in the Hebrew Bible, with specific mentions in Genesis 15, Exodus 23, Numbers 34 and Ezekiel 47. Nine times elsewhere in the Bible, the settled land is referred as "from Dan to Beersheba, and three times it is referred as "from the entrance of Hamath unto the brook of Egypt” (1 Kings 8:65, 1 Chronicles 13:5 and 2 Chronicles 7:8).".
These biblical limits for the land differ from the borders of established historical Israelite and later Jewish kingdoms; over time these have included the United Kingdom of Israel, the two separated kingdoms of Israel (Samaria) and Judah, the Hasmonean Kingdom, and the Herodian Kingdom, which at their heights ruled lands with similar but not identical boundaries.
The history of the conflict between Israel and Lebanon is a difficult topic to cover but its threads extend all the way to today. Both sides have taken lessons from the 2006 Israel Lebanon War. I want to examine some of the causes and effects of the conflict and how it might impact todays battle.

Why Israel lost the 2006 Lebanon War - The Dahiyeh Doctrine | The Big Picture
During Israel’s invasion of Lebanon in 2006, its generals realised they couldn’t fight Hezbollah on the ground.
So they resorted to a campaign of psychological warfare: “The Dahiyeh Doctrine”.
If it inflicted enough damage on the Lebanese people, Israel believed they would rise up and overthrow their rulers.
But it didn’t work, and despite ultimately losing the war, Israel would continue to implement this strategy in every conflict, especially in Gaza.
And now that it’s invading Lebanon once again, it’s resorting to the same brutal tactics.
This week on The Big Picture, we examine why Israel lost the 2006 Lebanon War, and why it’s repeating the very same mistakes today.

DAILY DOSE | Israel and Hezbollah have not engaged in all out war in over a decade since 2006, when the balance was far more in Israel's favor militarily. Now, however, that balance may shifted slightly with Hezbollah's new arsenal of weapons. Our Daniel Tsemach has the story.
Story:
On Wednesday, Iranian Revolutionary Guards Commander Hussein Salami declared that Lebanese militant group "Hezbollah has acquired capabilities in Syria that allow it to destroy Israel alone."
The warring comments seem to affirm Israel's concerns over Iranian-backed activity in war-torn Syria, where the Jewish state has admitted to conducting "hundreds of strikes" on Iranian-linked targets.
Also Wednesday, President Hassan Rouhani made it clear that Gulf states could ensure the region's security without the need for foreign forces, Iran's state media reported, following reports that Israel could join a US-led naval force in the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
The comments from come after a Lebanese lawmaker affiliated with Hezbollah warned at the start of the week that Israel was preparing to wage war against the Iran-backed group but that it was ready to “confront it.”
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hinted that the Israeli military were responsible for carrying out a missile strike on Hezbollah targets in Syria earlier this month.
Salami also addressed the escalating tensions with the United States that were estimated to lead either to negotiations or a potential military conflict following the back-and-forth seizures of tankers in the Strait of Hormuz and the further breach of the nuclear deal terms.
"The Iranian people forgot about talking to the United States and removed it from his thought," he said in reference to suggestions in recent weeks of possible talks between the nations following international calls to reduce tensions.
He went so far as to say that "negotiating with the US is not the way to resolve [matters], arguing that simply having talks with the US will only increase the pressure and demands on the Ayatollah regime, "to make us surrender."

The history of the conflict between Israel and Lebanon is a difficult topic to cover but its threads extend all the way to today. Both sides have taken lessons from the 2006 Israel Lebanon War. I want to examine some of the causes and effects of the conflict and how it might impact todays battle.

#HISTORY #WAR #ARMY

Israel's widely expected ground invasion of Lebanon appeared to be getting underway early on Tuesday as its military said troops had begun "limited" raids against Hezbollah targets in the border area. Israel, which has engaged in border warfare with Lebanon's Iran-backed Hezbollah movement for a year in parallel with the Gaza conflict, has a long history of military incursions and invasions in Lebanon.

The Israel-Hezbollah conflict has its roots in decades of complex historical, political, and religious tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, a Shiite militant group based in Lebanon. Hezbollah, which means "Party of God," was founded in the early 1980s during Lebanon’s civil war and Israeli occupation of southern Lebanon. Here’s an overview of key moments in the conflict's history

Landing in Ben Gurion (TLV) Airport? Then this video is for you.
All you need to know about security and transportation, as well as a few little tips.
The airport will probably be the first and last site that you visit in Israel.
There are a few things that can make your landing softer and cheaper.
Although the airport is called TLV, it is actually in the middle of Israel, so you can go on from there to Jerusalem, or even the desert or Galilee.
Your passport will not be stamped.
From Friday afternoon until Saturday night there are no buses or trains, so you'll need to take a taxi or hire a car.
If you take the train to Tel Aviv DO NOT get off at the first station in Tel Aviv (HaHagana); it is the poorest area in the city and has no hotels or hostels.
Haleluyah, the train to Jerusalem is now open and runnning!!!
