Mickey Charles Mantle (October 20, 1931 – August 13, 1995), nicknamed "The Commerce Comet" or "The Mick", was an American professional baseball player. Mantle played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the New York Yankees as a center fielder and first baseman, from 1951 through 1968. Mantle was one of the best players and sluggers, and is regarded by many as the greatest switch hitter in baseball history. Mantle was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1974 and was elected to the Major League Baseball All-Century Team in 1999.
Mantle was arguably the greatest offensive threat of any center fielder in baseball history. He has the highest career OPS+ of any center fielder and he had the highest stolen base percentage in history at the time of his retirement. In addition, compared to the four other center fielders on the all-century team, he had the lowest career rate of grounding into double plays (by far) and he had the highest World Series on-base percentage and World Series slugging percentage. He also had an excellent 0.984 fielding percentage when playing center field. Mantle was noted for his ability to hit for both average and power, especially tape measure home runs. He hit 536 MLB career home runs, batted .300 or more ten times, and is the career leader (tied with Jim Thome) in walk-off home runs, with a combined thirteen, twelve in the regular season and one in the postseason.
The ceremonial first ball is a longstanding ritual of American baseball in which a guest of honor throws a ball to mark the end of pregame festivities and the start of the game. Originally, the guest threw a ball from his/her place in the grandstand to the pitcher or catcher of the home team, but the ritual changed after Ronald Reagan threw the first pitch on the field at an unscheduled appearance at a Baltimore Orioles game. Now, the guest stands in front of the pitcher's mound and throws towards the home plate. He or she may also sometimes stand on the mound (as a pitcher would). The recipient of the pitch is usually a player from the home team.
The ceremonial thrower may be a notable person (dignitary, celebrity, former player, etc.) who is in attendance, an executive from a company that sponsors the team (especially when that company has sponsored that night's promotional giveaway), or a person who won the first pitch opportunity as a contest prize. Often, especially in the minor leagues, multiple first pitches are made.
Roger Eugene Maris (September 10, 1934 – December 14, 1985) was an American professional baseball player who played four seasons in the minor leagues and twelve seasons in the major leagues. Maris played right field on four Major League Baseball (MLB) teams, from 1957 through 1968.
Maris set the MLB record for home runs during the 1961 season with 61, breaking Babe Ruth's single-season record of 60 home runs in 1927. This record was challenged by then baseball commissioner Ford Frick, who said that Maris needed to break the record in 154 games instead of the current schedule of 162 games. His accomplishment of 61 home runs in a season came back to the forefront in 1998, when the home run record was broken by Mark McGwire and later that same year by Sammy Sosa.
Maris began playing in the minor leagues in 1953. He reached the major leagues in 1957 playing for the Cleveland Indians. He was traded to the Kansas City Athletics during the 1958 season, and to the New York Yankees after the 1959 season. He finished his MLB career playing for the St. Louis Cardinals in 1967 and 1968. Maris was an American League (AL) All-Star from 1959 through 1962, an AL Most Valuable Player in 1960 and 1961, and an AL Gold Glove Award winner in 1960. Maris appeared in seven World Series, five as a member of the Yankees and two with the Cardinals.

Mickey Mantle: The Definitive Story (MLB Baseball Sports Documentary) The almost mythic career of Yankee slugger Mickey Mantle is the subject of this acclaimed HBO Sports documentary special. Over 18 seasons with the Bronx Bombers, despite constant nagging injuries, Mantle managed to hit 536 home runs, twice hitting more than 50 in a season. He finished ten seasons with a batting average of .300 or more and suited up for seven World Series. To this day, ?The Mick? remains the greatest switch-hitter in baseball history; however, behind his country charm and good looks there was his wayward lifestyle that harmed his marriage, his relationship with his four sons and ultimately his health.

It is in the vibrant heart of Oklahoma City’s historic Bricktown where you will find a legendary steakhouse with an iconic name. Mickey Mantle’s Steakhouse is a tribute to the baseball great and beloved Oklahoma native. Reporter Jenifer Reynolds and videographer Tommy Evans unveil the many reasons why this place is a homerun when it comes to an impressive dining experience.
Pinstripes of the Past: No player ever hit a home run outside the confines of Yankee Stadium, but Mickey Mantle came the closest. On May 30, 1956, Mantle crushed a home run that reportedly came within 18 inches of leaving the stadium. It bounced back onto the field, was tossed back into the dugout, and then was given to Mantle's teammate Eddie Robinson, who then displayed it at his restaurant in Baltimore for many years. This homerun encapsulates the triple crown season Mickey Mantle had that year in 1956. YanksAtShea proudly presents a genuine rarity; a restored clip of Roger Maris' Legendary 61st Home Run as called by Red Barber and aired over WPIX-TV. October 1, 2011 was the 50th anniversary of this marvelous moment. We must warn you the biggest disappointment is Red's call. Barber was perhaps the finest RADIO baseball sportscaster ever; but NOT the finest TV sportscaster. His call of a truly GREAT sports moment is mediocre at best and third rate at its worst...it's as if he didn't care especially compared to Phil Rizzuto's radio call. Who cares about someone winning $5,000; Maris, against all odds (and against Mickey Mantle), just set the single season home run record. Oh well, at least the video looks terrific. Enjoy with our compliments and visit our YanksAtShea page here at YouTube a...

Verse 1:
Never thought to light a candle
Never thought I had to gamble
I was feeling Mickey Mantle... Wasted
Driving up the one and frantic
Turned into an old romantic
I was sleeping in the attic... Waiting
Pre Chorus 1:
Can't nobody ever see
Don't make a mess of me
I aint to old to give a shit
I can turn a train around
I can take your country down
I aint to young to regret
Chorus:
Forever, Forever, I aint to young x3
Verse 2:
I was in New York living
Waiting in the cold Thanksgiving
Hoping I could ever dare to... Embrace it
I can play a part uptown
I can keep my nose on the ground
Never though I'd ever care to... Face it
Pre Chorus 2:
I could never understand
I was just a foolish fan
Taken to the edge just to see
Who said your mother was right
Who said your friends were just blind
Who could tell you I was free
Chorus:
Forever, Forever, I aint to young x4
Ending Verse:
I was in New York living
Waiting in the cold Thanksgiving
