What Aztecs Were Eating Before European Contact
The Aztecs thrived in the area corresponding to Mexico between the 14th and 15th centuries until they were overthrown by Spanish conquistador Hernán Cortés in 1521. This complex Mesoamerican culture revolved around growing and consuming food, particularly maize (what is now known as corn) - but what else did the Aztecs eat? What did they grow? What did they eat for dessert? How did they cook their food?

Ancient Americas: A Complete Overview
This video goes through the entirety of the Pre-Columbian Era.
It begins with the settling of the Americas, and the Paleo-Indian and Archaic phases. Focus is on the main civilizations of Mesoamerica and the Andean region, like the Olmecs, Mayans, Aztecs, and Inca, but also goes over the smaller cultures in North America and the Caribbean, like the Hopewell, Ancestral Pueblo, and Taino. Though much is in the Ancient period, the video goes up to the 15th or 16th centuries, so will be part of the Medieval series.

The Aztec Empire and Pre-Columbian Trans-Oceanic Contact - ROBERT SEPEHR
In 1872, a stone inscribed with Phoenician writing was discovered in Paraíba, Brazil telling of a Phoenician ship which, due to a storm, was separated from a fleet sailing from Egypt around Africa. Was there transatlantic contact in ancient times? The Aztecs were a Mesoamerican culture that flourished in central Mexico in the post-classic period from 1300 to 1521. Aztlan is the mythical place of origin of the Aztec peoples.

Volcán Popocatépetl, whose name is the Aztec word for smoking mountain, rises 70 km SE of Mexico City to form North America's 2nd-highest volcano. Volcán Popocatépetl, whose name is the Aztec word for smoking mountain, rises 70 km SE of Mexico City to form North America's 2nd-highest volcano. The generally symmetrical volcano is modified by the sharp-peaked Ventorrillo on the NW, a remnant of an earlier volcano. The modern volcano was constructed south of the late-Pleistocene to Holocene El Fraile cone. Three major Plinian eruptions, the most recent of which took place about 800 CE, have occurred since the mid-Holocene, accompanied by pyroclastic flows and voluminous lahars that swept basins below the volcano. History Summarized: The Maya, Aztec, and Inca
Human sacrifice, smallpox, and the Spanish empire... that's the whole story, right? Haha, eheh, hehe, HA, not even close! The civilizations of Mesoamerica are fascinating in their own right, and very distinct from each other too! Step on in and I'll learn you a thing or two.
Also no spoilers, but next time, I'm covering the Iroquois Confederation! Ok, maybe that was exactly a spoiler.

Aztecs vs Mayans: Who Ruled Mesoamerica?
Ever wondered who ruled Mesoamerica, the Aztecs or the Mayans? The Mayans were first, building their amazing cities and pyramids in places like Guatemala and southern Mexico from around 2000 BCE. They were great at astronomy and had an advanced writing system. The Aztecs came later, dominating central Mexico with their powerful empire starting in the 14th century, known for their massive capital city, Tenochtitlán. Both civilizations were incredible in their own ways, but they ruled different parts of Mesoamerica at different times.

Aztec Jaguar Warriors: The Most Feared Elite in Mesoamerica.
The Aztec jaguar warriors, known as cuāuhocēlōtl, were elite soldiers who earned their fierce reputation through rigorous training and battlefield prowess. Donning jaguar pelts and wielding spears and atlatls (spear-throwers), they embodied the power and cunning of their namesake. Membership wasn't just about skill; warriors had to capture four enemies alive, a feat seen as a greater honor than simply killing. These elite fighters served not only as the Aztec empire's vanguard but also played a ritualistic role, supplying captives for sacrifices to the sun god Huitzilopochtli. Their bravery, skill, and terrifying appearance made them Aztec society's most respected and feared warriors.

The Fall of Aztecs Empire #History #shorts #AztecEmpire #HernanCortes #HistoryChannel #Colonialism
🌄 The Fall of the Aztec Empire: A Tale of Conquest and Collapse 🌄
Explore the dramatic downfall of one of Mesoamerica’s greatest civilizations! In the 16th century, the mighty Aztecs faced an unprecedented challenge with the arrival of Spanish conquistadors led by Hernan Cortes. Despite being vastly outnumbered, the Spanish wielded guns, horses, and a lethal ally—smallpox—which ravaged the Aztec population.
As internal strife brewed, local enemies of the Aztecs seized the opportunity to ally with the invaders, leading to a perfect storm of conflict. In just two years, a civilization crumbled, reminding us of the fragility of power and the devastating consequences of disease and division.
