Marvin Gaye (/ɡeɪ/; born Marvin Pentz Gay Jr.; April 2, 1939 – April 1, 1984) was an American soul singer, songwriter, and musician. Gaye helped to shape the sound of Motown in the 1960s, first as an in-house session player and later as a solo artist with a string of hits, including How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You) and I Heard It Through the Grapevine, and duet recordings with Mary Wells, Kim Weston, and Tammi Terrell, later earning the titles Prince of Motown and Prince of Soul.
During the 1970s, he recorded the concept albums What's Going On and Let's Get It On and became one of the first artists in Motown to break away from the reins of their production company.
Gaye's later recordings influenced several contemporary R&B subgenres, such as quiet storm and neo-soul. Following a period in Europe as a tax exile in the early 1980s, Gaye released the 1982 Grammy Award-winning hit "Sexual Healing" and its parent album Midnight Love.
On April 1, 1984, Gaye's father, Marvin Gay Sr., fatally shot him at their house in the West Adams district of Los Angeles. Since his death, many institutions have posthumously bestowed Gaye with awards and other honors—including the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, the Rhythm and Blues Music Hall of Fame, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
"Marvin Gaye" is the debut single recorded, produced, and co-written by American singer Charlie Puth. It was released on February 10, 2015 by Atlantic Records, and features guest vocals by Meghan Trainor. Puth co-wrote the song with Julie Frost.
"Marvin Gaye" topped the charts in the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, and New Zealand; peaked within the top five in Australia; and reached the Top 40 in Austria, Canada, and the United States.
Puth began his music career via YouTube. He first gained Internet attention after recording a cover of Adele's worldwide hit, "Someone Like You" with Emily Luther, who was also a student of the Berklee College of Music. Shortly afterward, they appeared on the The Ellen DeGeneres Show and were subsequently signed to Ellen's record label, eleveneleven. Puth's debut television performance was noted by Miles Beard and Ben Maddahi which led the pair to offer the former a publishing deal with the Artist Publishing Group (APG). After several months of songwriting and recording producing with a variety of recording artists like Trey Songz, Jason Derulo, and Lil Wayne, Puth was signed to Atlantic Records by Mike Caren in January 2015. Shortly afterward, Puth and Meghan Trainor announced via YouTube that they had recorded a duet together. "Marvin Gaye" was released as Puth's debut single on February 10, 2015.
Here, My Dear is the fifteenth studio album by music artist Marvin Gaye, released December 15, 1978, on Motown-subsidiary label Tamla Records. Recording sessions for the album took place between 1977 and 1978 at Gaye's personal studios, Marvin Gaye Studios in Los Angeles, California. The album was notable for its subject matter's being dedicated to the fallout of Gaye's marriage to his first wife, Anna Gordy Gaye.
Initially a commercial and critical failure upon its release, it was later hailed by music critics as one of Gaye's best produced albums in the years following Gaye's death. "It's taken me a while," Anna Gordy admitted in later years, "but I've come to appreciate every form of Marvin's music."
Marvin Gaye was going through a personal crisis in the summer of 1976. In November of 1975, Gaye's estranged first wife, Anna Gordy Gaye, sued Gaye for divorce, claiming irreconcilable differences, and sought palimony to their adopted son, Marvin Gaye III. Gaye later argued his spending habit was causing him to fall behind on payments. In September 1976, a warrant was issued for Gaye's arrest after he failed to pay alimony. The singer hid from the public for several days.
"Here, My Dear" is a song written, composed and produced by American soul singer Marvin Gaye, issued on the album of the same name in 1978. The song was a sort of introduction to the deeply confessional and post-divorce concept that gave a chronological look back at the tempestuous marriage between Marvin and first wife Anna. The lyric, You don't have the right to use a son of mine to keep me in line, became a memorable lyric for fans of Gaye and very much was a lyric attacking Anna for demanding alimony and child support payments to support then-twelve-year-old Marvin, III. Marvin then sarcastically told his wife that he dedicated the album to her but warned that she might "not be happy" and telling Anna "this is what you wanted" making a reference to the judge in their divorce case to give up royalties from this album to Anna. The song's musical background would be used for the song "Everybody Needs Love" from this album.
My Dear is the debut album by the Anaheim, California rock band New Years Day, released in 2007 by TVT Records. The album was self-financed, self-produced, and recorded over an eight-month period at the home of producer Eugene Pererras. The band's debut music video for the lead single "I Was Right" won an MTVU "Freshman Face" poll and was added to the channel's playlist.
The album includes contributions from John Christianson and Dan Regan of Reel Big Fish, who provide horns on "My Sweet Unvalentine." "Brilliant Lies" includes lyrics written by Justin Pierre of Motion City Soundtrack.
All songs written by Adam Lohrbach, except where noted.

"I Want You" is a song written by songwriters Leon Ware and Arthur "T-Boy" Ross and recorded and released as a single by singer Marvin Gaye. Released as a single in 1976 on the Tamla label, the song introduced a change in musical styles for Gaye, who before then had been recording songs with a funk edge. Songs such as this gave him a disco audience thanks to Ware, who produced the song alongside Gaye. The song also stood to be one of Marvin's most popular singles during his later Motown period followed by his sabbatical following the release of 1973's Let's Get It On. The song eventually reached number fifteen on the Billboard Hot 100 and number one on the Hot Selling Soul Singles chart. Things get hot when Meghan Trainor is joined by Charlie Puth and the two perform "Marvin Gaye" at the American Music Awards. Their performance even ends with a kiss! The AMAs, hosted by Jennifer Lopez, took place live at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on November 22.
See those flowers, they need love
See the bluebirds, they need love
See the babies, they need love
All God's children, oh need love
See your mother, she needs love
And my father, he needs love
That's true baby, and I need love too
See those raindrops, rivers - they need love
and the mountains and the valleys, they need love
God forgive us, and send us more love from above
Don't find good love every day
We ought to think before we throw good love away
Doesn't matter what you are
A thief or a beggar or even a superstar
As long as you were made by God above
Oh, I know, I know
You need love
We need love
Oh baby (oh, I need love, I need your love)
I'm standing here (Oh baby, standing in the need)
of love (I need love)
I need it, I got to have it baby
Oh can't you see that I'm standing in the need
I'm still here cause I need love
I'm still with you dear
cause I need your love
and I know, oh yes I know
Though you feel you don't need loving
(We need love, we need love)
You still need loving too
Oh yes you do
(It don't matter, It don't matter)
No, it doesn't matter what you are
A thief or a beggar or a superstar
As long as the Lord made you from above
I know, I know
You were made for love
(Cause love is what you need
and understanding)
Oh, understanding
You were made for love
Sweet understanding
You were made for love
Why can't we see
Why does it have to be so hard today
for us to see the real
Why can't we see
We were made from love
You were made from love
I'm talking about love
The real thing
You were made of love
By love, from love, baby
Right
What's the only thing that's gonna get us together
Love's the only thing that's gonna make this cold-blooded world alright
What are we talkin' about?
Love, love, love, love
Oh baby
What is this we're singing about?
For the love of Jesus, let's do it
Sweet love
I need a whole lot of love, sugar
I need a whole lot of sweet love
It's a fact
Even the slime in the sea needs love (who)
All of the folks in jail need love (who)
Even a mean old man needs love
Why can't you understand
