Route 140 begins at U.S. Route 130 in the community of Deepwater, New Jersey. The route heads eastward as Hawks Bridge Road, passing through forestry east of the DuPont riverside factory. The large portion of forestry breaks up into a large clearing. In this large clearing, Route 140 passes between two truck stops. The route continues, intersecting with the on-ramps to Interstate 295. Route 140 then crosses over the interstate and settles back on land. From there, Route 140 crosses to the north of another truck stop and intersects with County Route 551 (South Pennsville-Auburn Road). Intersecting with local off-ramps, the route crosses by some businesses before interchanging with the New Jersey Turnpike and U.S. Route 40. The route continues a short distance after the interchange, terminating at Wiley Road, where it continues as County Route 540.
State Route 140 first appeared in the mid-1920s. The two-lane highway passes through three counties along its path: Scioto, Lawrence and Jackson. It begins at an interchange with U.S. Route 52 and, immediately following the interchange, leaves the Portsmouth corporation limits and heads east. The route makes a quick hilly climb upward and downward to the former Teays River Valley near Slocum; it then traverses primarily wooded areas as it passes through Ashley Corner, Scioto Furnace, South Webster, and Eifort. It retains the forested area up until its eastern terminus. For most of its alignment, State Route 140 parallels an abandoned Baltimore and Ohio Railroad line.
State Route 140 (SR 140) is a two-lane state highway in Humboldt County, Nevada. It serves a sparsely populated section of the state, connecting northwestern Nevada to southern Oregon. Most of the highway was originally part of State Route 8A, and was later improved through an effort to provide an all-weather highway linking northern Nevada to the Pacific northwest.
Route description
State Route 140 begins at a junction with U.S. Route 95 about 32 miles (51km) north of Winnemucca in the Quinn River Valley. From this point, the highway heads west towards the sparsely populated regions of northwestern Nevada. SR 140 crosses into the Desert Valley before entering a branch of the Fort McDermitt Indian Reservation. Inside the reservation, the route crosses the Quinn River. Upon exiting the Indian territory, SR 140 curves northwest to parallel the Quinn River for about 10 miles (16km) as it rounds the northern edge of the Jackson Mountains. As the river turns southeast towards the Black Rock Desert, the highway continues its northwest trajectory through the valley between the Bilk Creek Mountains on the east and the Pine Forest Range to the west. The route crosses over the 4,820-foot (1,470m) Denio Summit before reaching Denio Junction. State Route 292 intersects the highway here, providing access to Denio, the only town in this region of Nevada.
List of former primary state highways in Virginia (Bristol District)
The following is a list of former primary state highways completely or mostly within the Bristol District (VDOT District 1) of the U.S. state of Virginia.
SR 62
State Route 62 extended south along current secondary SR 744 from US 58 (now US 58 Business) east of Ewing to the Tennessee state line, continuing as an unnumbered county road in the direction of Alanthus Hill and Tennessee State Route 63. It was added to the state highway system in 1928 as State Route 101, changed to SR 62 in the 1933 renumbering, and downgraded to secondary in 1942.
SR 63
State Route 63 extended south along current secondary SR 758 from US 58 between Beech Spring and Jonesville across the Powell River on Flanary Bridge to the Tennessee state line, continuing as an unnumbered county road in the direction of Tennessee State Route 63 at Mulberry Gap. 6.2 miles (10.0km) of road, a majority of the route, was added to the state highway system in 1928 as State Route 102, which was extended another 1.2 miles (1.9km) in 1930. In the 1933 renumbering, SR 102 became SR 63, which was extended the final 1⁄2 mile (0.80km) to the state line in October 1933 and downgraded to secondary in 1946.
State Route140 (SR140) is part of Maine's system of numbered state highways, located in Oxford and Franklin counties. The southern terminus of the route is in Buckfield, at the intersection with SR117. The northern terminus of the route is in Jay, at the intersections with SR4 and SR17. SR140 is 22.4 miles (36.0km) long.
Oregon Highway 140 couldn't handle trucks of a certain length and had other restrictions. A Jobs & Transportation Act project improved curves and other parts of the highway so truck traffic could move more easily, it was safer and the route could serve as a lifeline to area residents.

A quick sightseeing stop along Doherty Slide, Highway 140, Oregon - Always Ants
Join me as I take in the morning vista along Doherty Slide along Highway 140 in southeastern Oregon in August 2021.
This steep grade along Doherty Rim offers a few tenuous pullouts for sightseeing, and a better one at the summit where hang-gliders access launch sites.
While the maps claim there is a "Langslet Monument Rest Area" at the 6,200-foot summit, that is completely false! There is only the empty desert landscape of the southern edge of the Spaulding Wilderness Study Area. Just past the summit there is a large gravel pullout beside a rock quarry but there are no amenities for travelers whatsoever.
August in the high desert meant autumn had already begun to arrive, heralded by the rabbitbrush bloom. Along with amazing outback desert vistas and cool morning air, I found, as alway...

OREGON ROUTE 140, DOHERTY SLIDE
This time-lapse video was captured when we drove down and back up the Doherty Slide in South Eastern Oregon. This was our first time to Oregon and on Route 140, we were unaware of what we were going to be driving on. I'm from the High Desert Canyon Country of Utah so I'm used to mountain driving with canyons and drop offs. Doherty slide does not have guardrails, it is a about 1000 feet to the valley floor below. This ridge was created from a lava extrusion of an ancient volcano. The only video we got was this time-lapse enjoy the ride from the comfort of your home.
