Madhouse is a jazz fusion band from Minneapolis that was created by Prince. Two Madhouse albums (and a few singles) were officially released in 1987.
History
Prince had considered the idea of an instrumental jazz-funk album ever since he recorded his first tracks with Eric Leeds for his 1985 side-project, The Family. In late 1985-early 1986, he recorded hours of instrumental music with Leeds and other musicians from his band, Sheila E. and musicians from her own band, as well as members from Wendy & Lisa's families. From these sessions, Prince compiled an album called The Flesh, supposed to be released by an eponymous pseudo-band, but the project was abandoned and its concept lightly modified to become Madhouse.
All instruments on "8", the first Madhouse album, were performed by Prince except for the saxophone and flute parts which were performed by Eric Leeds. The albums consists of instrumental jazz-fusion tracks. A remix of the track "Six" was released alongside the b-side "Six & 1/2", composed by Leeds and featuring Atlanta Bliss on trumpet.
+/-, or Plus/Minus, is an Americanindietronic band formed in 2001. The band makes use of both electronic and traditional instruments, and has sought to use electronics to recreate traditional indie rock song forms and instrumental structures. The group has released two albums on each of the American indie labels Teenbeat Records and Absolutely Kosher, and their track "All I do" was prominently featured in the soundtrack for the major film Wicker Park. The group has developed a devoted following in Japan and Taiwan, and has toured there frequently. Although many artists append bonus tracks onto the end of Japanese album releases to discourage purchasers from buying cheaper US import versions, the overseas versions of +/- albums are usually quite different from the US versions - tracklists can be rearranged, artwork with noticeable changes is used, and tracks from the US version can be replaced as well as augmented by bonus tracks.
!!! is a dance-punk band that formed in Sacramento, California, in 1996 by lead singer Nic Offer. Its name is most commonly pronounced "Chk Chk Chk" ([/tʃk.tʃk.tʃk/]). Members of !!! came from other local bands such as The Yah Mos, Black Liquorice and Popesmashers. They are currently based in New York City, Sacramento, and Portland, Oregon. The band's sixth full-length album, As If, was released in October 2015.
Background and history
!!! is an American band formed in the summer of 1995 by the merger of part of the group Black Liquorice and Popesmashers. After a successful joint tour, these two teams decided to mix the disco-funk with more aggressive sounds and integrate the hardcore singer Nic Offer from the The Yah Mos. The band's name was inspired by the subtitles of the movie The Gods Must Be Crazy, in which the clicking sounds of the Bushmens' Khoisan language were represented as "!". However, as the bandmembers themselves say, !!! is pronounced by repeating thrice any monosyllabic sound. "Chk Chk Chk" is the most common pronunciation, which the URL of their official website and the title of their Myspace page suggest is the preferred pronunciation.
Madhouse was an Argentine heavy metalmusic magazine edited from 1989 to 2001. It was established by César Fuentes Rodríguez, along with other journalists from the former Riff Raff magazine.
Madhouse was the first Argentine heavy metal magazine to arrange interviews with international bands, instead of translating such interviews taken from international magazines. Unlike the Metal magazine, it had an informal style and wrote harsh critics to recordings or plays they did not consider of good quality. It had a higher success as a result, and Metal ended publication in 1994.
The magazine released some special editions as well, titled "Madhouse extra". Those special editions were specifically about a certain selected band. Some bands that got a special edition were Hermética, AC/DC, Kiss, Pantera, Megadeth, Marilyn Manson, etc. There was another special edition devoted to the Death metal genre in general as well.
César Fuentes Rodríguez put aside the magazine in 1997 and established Epopeya, a new heavy metal magazine specifically about Power metal and Traditional heavy metal, while Madhouse would continue to focus on all the varieties of heavy metal music.
Madhouse (original title: There Was a Little Girl; also known as And When She Was Bad) is a 1981 Italian slasher film directed by Ovidio G. Assonitis. It stars Trish Everly, Dennis Robertson, Allison Biggers, Michael Macrae, Morgan Hart, Edith Ivey and Jerry Fujikawa. The film features a musical score by Riz Ortolani and cinematography by Assonitis regular Roberto D'Ettorre Piazzoli.
It was one of the many films on the "video nasty" list, a list of horror/exploitation films banned by the BBFC in the 1980s for violence and obscenity.
Plot
Julia (Trish Everly, in her only film role) is a young teacher for deaf children living in Savannah, Georgia. She has horrid memories of her childhood, which was scarred by her sadistic twin sister Mary (Allison Biggers). At the urging of her uncle, Father James (Dennis Robertson), Julia visits Mary, suffering from a severe skin disease, in a mental institution. The meeting does not go well and Mary vows to make Julia "suffer as she had suffered". As their mutual birthday approaches, several of Julia's friends and neighbors begin to die gruesome deaths, some of which are committed by a mysterious Rottweiler dog that has some sort of connection to Mary. But is Mary really the killer?
A successful married couple with an idyllic California life see it ruined when their house is overrun by unwelcome house guests.
This begins when the mail of Mark and Jessie Bannister is delayed due to forwarding issues, and they find out a cousin, Fred, and his pregnant wife, Bernice, are flying in from New Jersey to visit. The Bannisters receive the letter on the day Fred and Bernice are expected to arrive. Though a little unpleasant, this only lasts five days...until Bernice falls on the way to the airport and is instructed by her doctor not to leave until she delivers six months later.
Things progressively get worse as a series of unfortunate events finds Fred gone to find himself, and more and more people moving into the house, destroying it in the process. Ultimately, after fifty days of hell, the couple reclaim their home in a violent act of revenge.
