On November 24, 2000, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) announced the licensees of the new, much-sought after, Category 1 digital services. Craig Media, in partnership with TD Capital Group Ltd, was granted a licence for a youth lifestyle service known as Connect. One of the licence's conditions was that the channel could not devote more than 10% of its schedule to the airing of music videos and music programming, in order to avoid direct competition with MuchMusic, owned at the time by CHUM Limited.
Nonetheless, in August 2001, Craig Media announced that it had reached an agreement with MTV Networks to license programming and the MTV brand in Canada for the channel, prompting a pre-launch name change to MTV Canada. Prior to the channel's launch, Craig purchased TD Capital Group's interest in the channel. The channel launched as MTV Canada on October 18, 2001. Shortly afterward, Craig sold a minority interest in the service to MTV Networks. MTV Canada aired a mix of Canadian-produced programs (including Pepsi Breakout and MTV Select), as well as shows from the American MTV channel (such as TRL and The Real World).
Canada (i/ˈkænədə/; French: [ka.na.da]) is a country in the northern part of North America. Its ten provinces and three territories extend from the Atlantic to the Pacific and northward into the Arctic Ocean, covering 9.98million square kilometres (3.85million square miles), making it the world's second-largest country by total area and the fourth-largest country by land area. Canada's border with the United States is the world's longest land border. Canada is sparsely populated, the majority of its land territory being dominated by forest and tundra and the Rocky Mountains; about four-fifths of the country's population of 35 million people live near the southern border. The majority of Canada has a cold or severely cold winter climate, but southerly areas are warm in summer.
The land now called Canada has been inhabited for millennia by various Aboriginal peoples. Beginning in the 15th century, British and French colonies were established on the Atlantic coast, with the first establishment of a region called "Canada" occurring in 1537. As a consequence of various conflicts, the United Kingdom gained and lost territories within British North America until left, in the late 18th century, with what mostly geographically comprises Canada today. Pursuant to the British North America Act, on July 1, 1867, the colonies of Canada, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotiajoined to form the autonomous federal Dominion of Canada. This began an accretion of provinces and territories to the self-governing Dominion to the present ten provinces and three territories forming modern Canada. In 1931, Canada achieved near total independence from the United Kingdom with the Statute of Westminster 1931, and full sovereignty was attained when the Canada Act 1982 removed the last remaining ties of legal dependence on the British parliament.
Provinces of the Anglican Church of Canada are headed by a Metropolitan, elected from among the province's diocesan bishops. This bishop then becomes Archbishop of his or her diocese and Metropolitan of the Province. The current Metropolitan of the Province of Canada is the Most Rev. Percy D. Coffin, Archbishop of Western Newfoundland.
In 2008, Canadian specialty service Razer (which originally launched as MTV Canada) had rebranded following BellGlobemedia acquiring CHUM Limited. The service was now called MTV2 Canada (not to be confused with the original MTV2 Canada, which became PunchMuch, then Juicebox, then got acquired by Stingray Digital). The first thing that aired on the channel was a 30 second bumper themed around twos, with a soundtrack consisting of a didgeridoo. A 15-version second was made as well.
I may have said it in an early video on its previous incarnation of Razer, but the channel aired programs like Crash Yankers and Wonder Showzen, the latter of which is one of my favourite shows. If you haven't seen Wonder Showzen, I would recommend it but I would also like to warn you that there are a lot of thin...

Razer - Launch [and others] (2005)
On November 24th 2000, Craig Media, in a partnership with TD Capital Group Limited, was granted a license for a youth-oriented service known as “Connect”. It would later launch on October 18th 2001 as MTV Canada alongside MTV2 Canada, two months after Craig bought out TD’s interest in the channel and made an agreement with MTV Networks to license the MTV brand and its programs to Canada.

Sometime later in 2004, CHUM acquired Craig primarily for A-Channel (which became CityTV in 2005). However, there was a catch to MTV Canada and MTV2 Canada’s licensing agreement. Viacom, the owners of MTV Networks, had the right to pull out of the venture if ownership changed. So, on June 9th 2005, CHUM announced that MTV Canada and MTV2 Canada would rebrand to Razer and PunchMuch respectively on June 30th.
Razer launched becoming the service Craig originally promised when the license was granted. The channel was also built on interactivity allowing the audience to (in their own words) “program, host and contribute elements to the service and make it their own.” It also had RazerTXT where viewers can play SMS games while they were watching the show, which was revolutionary for the time. Later (I’m saying around 2006, see “Razer – Tested on Animals (2006)”) they would bring anime like Cowboy Bebop to their lineup as well as shows like Clone High and Happy Tree Friends.
I barely remember watching Razer. I would go on their website, sure, but watching the channel was a blip in my memory. All I could remember was a viewer advisory with a bunch of people in black and white playing before Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Meanwhile in the background, Bell Globemedia (who would later turn into CTVGlobemedia) struck a licensing deal with MTV Networks to launch its own MTV channel (replacing talktv, a channel carrying repeats of CTV’s talk shows) early in 2006. In July of that year, Bell announced that it would purchase CHUM. The purchase was approved by the CRTC on June 8th 2007. This was a sign that Razer wouldn’t last long.
On August 1st 2008, Razer rebranded to MTV2 Canada. It would air shows like Crash Yankers, Jackass and Wonder Showzen to Canadian screens.
