Liverpool Cathedral by Drone
I took a visit to Liverpool Cathedral at sunrise on Saturday 5th March 2022.
I had been meaning to visit this building and capture it by drone for a long time but had to wait out the bad winter months and catch it at the right time.
Despite it being very cold for me early in the morning the weather was perfect for flying and I think I captured the cathedral with some great shots.
I hope you enjoy the video and the history/facts I have shared too.

Liverpool. Britain's Great Cathedral
Liverpool Cathedral is the Church of England's newest cathedral and the largest in Britain. It was designed in the Gothic style by Giles Gilbert Scott, who also designed the red telephone box. It took 74 years to build and was paid for with money donated by the people of Liverpool. National tragedies such as the sinking of the Titanic - many of whose crew came from Liverpool - and the Hillsborough football disaster is remembered within its walls. It is also where Paul McCartney composed and performed his first classical piece of music, the Liverpool Oratorio.

First flight around the Liverpool Anglican Cathedral with my first ever drone the Dji Mini 2 and third day flying this drone. Amazing what such a small and capable drone the Dji Mini 2 is turning out to be. :-)
7 Interesting facts about the cathedral:
The Liverpool Cathedral is more than just a symbol of architecture and a popular tourist attraction. It is an amalgamation of personal experiences, historical significance and religious sentiments.
1) It is the fifth-largest cathedral in the world
Not only is the Liverpool Cathedral the largest cathedral and religious building in Britain, but it is also the fifth largest cathedral in the world. What’s more, it is the largest Anglican cathedral in the world with an entire area of 9687.4 square meters.
2) It is based on a design by the creator of the iconic red telephone box
The famous cathedral is built on the basis of a design by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott. Known for his architectural style of mixing Gothic architecture and modernism, he has worked as an architect on many famous buildings like Oxford, Cambridge University Library and is also popular for designing the famous red telephone box.
3) The Grand Organ inside of Liverpool Cathedral is the largest in the United Kingdom
The grand organ of the Liverpool Cathedral is a majestic sight! It is situated in two chambers on the opposite sides of the choir and is made up of 10,268 pipes and 200 stops in nine divisions – making it the largest cathedral organ in the United Kingdom.
4) The cathedral bells are the highest and heaviest in the world
At 220 ft above floor level and with a weight of 31.5 tonnes, the cathedral bells are the highest and heaviest in the world with a ringing sound that will undoubtedly leave an imprint in the visitors’ memory.
5) The temporary pink neon sign that has now become a permanent feature of the cathedral
In 2008, a work of art called “For You” by Tracey Emin was installed in the west end of the cathedral. The work includes a neon pink sign that reads “I Felt You And I Knew You Loved Me”. This installation was intended to be temporary during the Capital of Culture Program, but has now become a beautiful, permanent feature inside the cathedral.
6) The eternal flame of the Hillsborough Memorial
The cathedral served as the venue for the disclosure of the Hillsborough Independent Panel in 2012. The eternal flame is temporarily put in safe storage in the Memorial Chapel in the cathedral, during the construction period of the Main stand expansion.
7) The artwork inside the cathedral that was stolen and returned twice
Another work by Trace Emin entitled, “The Roman Standard” is a small bronze sparrow placed on a metal pole. Installed in 2005 inside the cathedral, this piece of artwork was stolen twice three years later (2008). In both the cases however, it was found replaced in its original setting.
