The bay, consisting of approximately 30,000 acres (120km²), is enclosed by Delta County. The cities of Escanaba and Gladstone are on the west side of the bay.
The bay's name comes from the Noquet (or Noc) Native American people (thought to have been related to the Menominee of the Algonquian language group), who once lived along the shores. Douglass Houghton came to Sand Point (in Escanaba) in 1844 with his party of government surveyors to chart the land to the north.
Escanaba has a deep harbor, which made it a lumbering center. The first sawmill was built there in 1836. The bay also shipped iron ore from the rich iron ranges in Michigan's upper peninsula, with the first ore dock built at Escanaba in 1864. Escanaba was incorporated in 1866. A bit further north, Gladstone was founded in 1887 by U.S. Senator from Minnesota, William D. Washburn, to serve as a rail-lake terminal for lumber products.
Little Bay is a coastal suburb, to the north of Botany Bay. The suburb takes its name from the geographical formation called Little Bay, which also features a small beach. The Prince Henry Hospital was a famous landmark once located at Little Bay.
History
The Little Bay area was first used as a makeshift camp during Sydney's smallpox outbreak in 1881-82, to isolate sufferers of the disease. At first, a "tent city" was established, but further smallpox outbreaks and a typhoid epidemic convinced the goyvernment to build a permanent hospital here to treat infectious diseases. Little Bay was an ideal location because it was isolated from settlements but still close enough to Sydney. The Coast Hospital was particularly valuable during the bubonic plague in Sydney of 1900 and then again when soldiers returning from Europe brought the influenza virus back in 1919. The Coast Hospital became Prince Henry Hospital in 1934. In 2001 services were transferred to Prince of Wales Hospital, Sydney and the hospital site became available for residential use.
Little Bay is a town under construction, intended to be the future capital of the Caribbean island of Montserrat. It is adjacent to Brades.
History
The official capital of Montserrat at Plymouth in the south of the island was abandoned since 1997 after it was buried by the eruption of the Soufriere Hills volcano. Interim government buildings have since been built at Brades, becoming the political capital in 1998. The move was initially intended to be temporary, but it has remained the island's de facto capital ever since.

Little Bay de Noc Campground
Little Bay de Noc Campground is located in Michigan's Upper Pininsula, not far south of Rapid River. The campground offers 38 sites at a cost of $22 a night. The price is very reasonable considering the fact that the campground offers really large sites, interactive trails, beautiful views and a really nice recreation area.
This is by far one of the best campgrounds that I have visited as far as lot size and upkeep goes. I was also really impressed by the large, well-kept recreation area. The only negative that I could say for the campground is that I wouldn't want to tent camp here without having a good pad to put under the tent to protect it from the gravel base in each site.

Each loop has a vault toilet or two. There is potable water in each loop although the water in the first two loops looked a bit brown. The camp host assured us all of the water at the three spigots was potable, but we got the clear water from the third loop to be on the safe side.
The campsites will accommodate very large RVs. We could easily park our travel trailer and van twice on the pad and still have some room. The sites themselves are roomy. The is a very large RV friendly campground.
One of the things we thoroughly enjoyed while we were at Little Bay de Noc was the lighthouse. You can climb all the way to the top, to what would have been the watch room in a larger lighthouse. We tried to find some information about the lighthouse, but the information on the grounds was about the monarch butterflies and the milkweed that grows in the area to feed the monarchs.
One of the things that surprised us about the Upper Peninsula of Michigan is that it stays light until after 10 at night and day breaks around 4:30. They have short nights.
Another fun thing that Sharon did was take her kayak out on Lake Michigan. You need to know that she wasn't in the middle of the massive body of water. She launched from just outside the swim area, and she stayed close to the swim area, but she was on Lake Michigan.
