The Metro 1 (Officially: Millennium Underground Railway or M1) is the oldest line of the Budapest Metro system. Known in Budapest simply as "the underground" ("a földalatti"), as the M2, M3 and M4 are called "metró". It is the second oldest underground railway in the world (the first being the London Underground), and the first on the European mainland. It was built from 1894 to 1896. In 2002, it was listed as a UNESCOWorld Heritage Site.
M1, the oldest of the metro lines operating in Budapest, has been in constant operation since 1896.
The original purpose of the first metro line was to facilitate transport to the Budapest City Park along the elegant Andrássy Avenue without building surface transport affecting the streetscape. The National Assembly accepted the metro plan in 1870 and German firm Siemens & Halske AG was commissioned for the construction, starting in 1894. It took 2,000 workers using up-to-date machinery less than two years to complete. This section was built entirely from the surface (with the cut-and-cover method). Completed by the deadline, it was inaugurated on May 2, 1896, the year of the millennium (the thousandth anniversary of the arrival of the Magyars), by emperor Franz Joseph. One original car is preserved at the Seashore Trolley Museum in Kennebunkport, Maine, United States.
Lane 1 of Metrovia (Guasmo - Rio Daule), Opened to the public on July 30 of 2006, it is the first Line of a total of 7 to operate in Metrovia's BRT System.
Line 1 of the Rio de Janeiro Metro serves the city's downtown business centre, the tourist areas in the city's South Zone, and several neighbourhoods in the North Zone. It is a semi-circular line, and is fully underground. It runs from Saens Peña to Ipanema/General Osório.
It is the original line of the Rio de Janeiro Metro system and it was constructed from June 1970 to March 1979 (with a hiatus between 1971 and 1974 due to lack of funds).
History of Line 1
In 1979, the line began operations with 5 stations: Praça Onze, Central, Presidente Vargas, Cinelandia, and Gloria. In 1980, the stations Estácio and Uruguaiana were added. The following year (in 1981), the Botafogo, Flamengo, and Largo do Machado stations opened. In 1982, the line was extended to Saens Peña with the São Francisco Xavier and Afonso Pena stations added. In 1998, the Cardeal Arcoverde station opened in Copacabana. The Siqueira Campos station opened in 2002, while the Cantagalo Station opened in 2007.
Incheon's Line 1 makes Incheon the fourth city in Korea with a subway system in South Korea, after Seoul, Busan, and Daegu.
A trip along the line from Gyeyang in the north to Int'l Business District in the south takes approximately 57 minutes. From Bakchon station to International Business District station, the line is underground.
History
March 1999: Trial runs begin.
October 6, 1999: The line opens from Bakchon to Dongmak, after six years of construction.
December 7, 1999: A northern extension from Bakchon to Gyulhyeon opens.
"Budapest" is a song by British singer-songwriter George Ezra, from his debut studio album, Wanted on Voyage (2014). It was released as the album's second single on 13 December 2013 in Italy, and on 13 June 2014 in the United Kingdom. The song was co-written by Ezra with Joel Pott and produced by Cam Blackwood.
The single was released on Columbia Records, and distributed by Sony Music, and peaked at number three on the UK Singles Chart. "Budapest" has also been a major hit for Ezra in Austria and New Zealand, topping the charts in both countries, while reaching the top ten in Australia, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands and Switzerland. It was the 13th-best-selling single of 2014 in the UK. The song was released in the U.S. in 2015 and has peaked at number 32.
Background
Ezra told The Daily Telegraph that "Budapest" was "[his] first attempt to write a love song, and it uses the first three guitar chords [he] ever learned. There's a lot to be said for that simplicity." Ezra has also insisted that, despite its title, the lyrics of "Budapest" do not have anything to do with the city in Hungary and that he had never even been there before. He said, "I was in Malmö in Sweden and the Eurovision Song Contest was being held in Malmö on that night, and I didn't have a clue about it but everyone there seemed to be really excited about it and having parties. But I didn't know you couldn't buy alcohol after 10 o'clock at night. So I ended up buying a bottle of like, rum, or something like that from a guy in a park so I could have something to drink at this party. Anyway, I was meant to be getting a train to Budapest the next day, and I never got it because I was too hungover and didn't fancy it. So I wrote the song about being miles from Budapest."
Crest of a Knave is the sixteenth studio album by British rock band Jethro Tull, released in 1987. The album was recorded after a hiatus of three years occasioned by a throat infection of vocalist Ian Anderson. After the unsuccessful Under Wraps, the band returned to a more heavy blended electric with acoustic style of sound, one of the top characteristics of Jethro Tull. The album was their most successful since the 70's, and the band enjoyed a resurgence on radio broadcasts, appearances in MTV specials, and recording music videos. The album was supported by "The Not Quite the World, More the Here and There Tour".
Production
Even though Doane Perry had been a member of Jethro Tull since 1984, several tracks still featured drum machine instead of a live drummer. Keyboardist Peter-John Vettese was too absent and it was Ian Anderson who contributed the synth programming. The album sleeve only lists Ian Anderson, Martin Barre and Dave Pegg as official band members. Barre remembers of this production as being "the album where a lot of things were of my invention. There are still chunks of the music where lan very much knew what he wanted, but I think my input was far greater on that album than on any other".
The band were formed in 1999 by John Garrison (vocals, guitar) with Adrian Kelley (bass), Mark Walworth (guitar), Paul Possart (drums) and Chris Pemberton (piano, keyboards). After recording the material for their first album, Too Blind to Hear, Walworth committed suicide. Although shocked by this event, the remaining members of the band (Walworth being replaced by lead guitar Matt Parker later on) carried on with the release of the album, in tribute to their deceased partner. It appeared in September 2002 in UK, and was released in the United States in March 2004.
In 2003, the band played themselves in the two-part UK TV drama Final Demand for BBC One. The movie featured English actress Tamzin Outhwaite.
