Spanish language in the Americas refers to the Spanish language spoken in the Americas, as opposed to Peninsular Spanish and Spanish spoken elsewhere, such as in Africa and Asia. Linguistically, this grouping is somewhat arbitrary, akin to having a term for "overseas English" encompassing variants spoken in the United States, Canada, Australia, India, New Zealand and Ireland, but not England. There is great diversity among the various Latin American vernaculars, and it would be hard to point to one trait shared by all of them which is not also in existence in one or more of the variants of Spanish used in Spain.
Of the more than 469 million people who speak Spanish as their native language, more than 418 million are in Latin America and the United States.
There are numerous regional particularities and idiomatic expressions within Spanish. In Latin American Spanish, loanwords directly from English are relatively more frequent, and often foreign spellings are left intact. One notable trend is the higher abundance of loan words taken from English in Latin America as well as words derived from English. In Latin America they speak of la computadora while in Spain it's el ordenador, and each word sounds foreign in the region where it is not used. Some differences are due to Iberian Spanish having a stronger French influence than Latin America, where, for geopolitical reasons, the United States influence has been predominant throughout the twentieth century.
Latin America is the group of territories and countries in the Americas where Romance languages are spoken. The term originated in 19th century France to include French-speaking territories in the Americas within the larger group of countries that speak Spanish and Portuguese. It is therefore marginally broader than the term Iberian America or Spanish America, though it excludes French-speaking Quebec. Latin America consists of twenty sovereign states and several territories and dependencies which cover an area that stretches from the southern border of the United States to the southern tip of South America, including the Caribbean. It has an area of approximately 19,197,000km2 (7,412,000sq mi), almost 13% of the earth's land surface area.
As of 2015, its population was estimated at more than 626 million and in 2014, Latin America had a combined nominal GDP of 5,573,397 million USD and a GDP PPP of 7,531,585 million USD. The term "Latin America" was first used in 1861 in La revue des races Latines, a magazine "dedicated to the cause of Pan-Latinism".
Hispanic Americans and Latino Americans (Spanish:hispanos[isˈpanos], latinos) are United States citizens, descending from the peoples of the countries of Latin America and Iberia. More generally, it includes all persons in the United States who self-identify as Hispanic or Latino, whether of full or partial ancestry. For the US census in 2010, American Community Survey, people counted as "Hispanic" or "Latino" are those who identify as one of the specific Hispanic or Latino categories listed on the census or ACS questionnaire ("Mexican," "Puerto Rican," or "Cuban") as well as those who indicate that they are "other Spanish, Hispanic, or Latino." The countries or people who are in the Hispanic or Latino American groups as classified by the Census Bureau are the following: Spain, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, El Salvador, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela. It is important to note that the Census office of the U.S. excludes Brazilian Americans from the Hispanic and Latino American population (Brazil is part of Latin America, but has a Portuguese language culture rather than a Spanish language culture).

What's the difference between Spanish in Mexico, Latin America, and Spain?
Learn the most common differences between Spanish in Mexico and Spanish in Spain. Mexicans and Spaniards can communicate with each other all the time. However, sometimes we use different terms to express the same object or feeling. Learn the words that are different in each country. There are many more terms that are different in Spain and in Mexico, but I picked the most popular for you. Remember that these words do not interfere greatly in communication. I have many Spanish friends with whom I talk on a regular basis. We have different accents but we understand each other and when a term pops up, I ask or they ask. My friend Guergana goes to Barcelona a lot and she has many friends. She has never had problems communicating. The only side-effect of this Spanish difference is cultural an...

The only side-effect of this Spanish difference is cultural and linguistic enrichment. With this video, you will not only learn Spanish terms particular to Spain, and terms particular to Mexico, you will also broaden your Spanish cultural knowledge and baggage. You will also be able to know what terms to use and not to use when you travel to Spain or Mexico. Enjoy the lesson and learn the basic differences.
