"Last Laugh" is an episode from the TV series M*A*S*H. It was the fourth episode of the sixth season, originally airing October 4, 1977 and repeated March 6, 1978, and written by Everett Greenbaum and Jim Fritzell and directed by Don Weis.
One of B.J.'s old buddies shows up at the 4077th, and is a bigger practical joker than B.J. or Hawkeye. Unfortunately, his joke backfires and B.J. finds himself charged with a crime, so everybody must now undo the joke so they can exonerate B.J. (and Hawkeye and B.J. can get even).
Detailed Story
Colonel Potter receives a telephone call from a colonel at the Provost Marshal's office, informing him that a report has been received that Captain Hunnicutt may have forged his surgeon's credentials. Potter insists that Hunnicutt is a qualified doctor, but the caller persists and informs Potter that he will be coming to the 4077th later that day to make an investigation. Just then Klinger comes in, pretending to be leading a camel. Klinger shows off the "camel", and after a brief show Potter kicks him out of his office. Potter then goes to the mess tent looking for Hunnicutt, and finds Hawkeye and Father Mulcahy sitting down to a meal. He asks his junior officers Hunnicutt's whereabouts, but they do not know. He then explains the situation to them. Just then, B.J. walks in and overhears the conversation. Potter explains to him that he is being investigated, and Hawkeye jokes that B.J. is actually a spy. Potter then mentions the name of the colonel that called. B.J. recognizes the name instantly—his old college roommate Leo Bardonaro. He explains that Bardonaro is a master practical joker, and that he was simply letting B.J. know that he would be stopping by for a visit later that afternoon.
While locked up in the Slab penitentiary, the Joker finds out he is suffering from a terminal brain tumor. Determined to go out with a bang, he caused a riot in the Slab, and in the ensuring chaos, modified the chemicals used by the prison to suppress its metahuman inmates into the Joker venom, and manage to "jokerize" other inmates, making them insane and changing their appearance, giving them white skin, green hair, and a wide smile. Black Canary, Nightwing, and Batman move in to put down the riot, while Dina Bell and Shilo Norman are trapped inside. The Joker prompts Black Mass to suck the prison into a black hole while he and the other villains escape. Blue Beetle narrowly rescues Black Canary, Batman, and Nightwing while Dina and Shilo are not as lucky. Barbara Gordon feels remorseful for being absent on a date with Dick Grayson (Nightwing) while the riot first broke out and begins to wish she could kill the Joker for the pain he's caused in her life.

Don't try selling me your heartbreak 'Cause I can't take another sales pitch You don't wanna be the last one Who's no fun The one that's always left behind I know it's hard To see clearly all of the time So go do what you want And I'll try hard to be more understanding But I don't want to live like that Under your thumb behind your back I just wanna be there to see the last laugh I'll try killing you with kindness Forget the mindless things I might've said And I won't try to catch you or stop you From doing what you think is right I'll look the other way Maybe I was wrong this one time It's got to be hard When the rest of the world's gone crazy around you But I don't want to live like that Under your thumb, behind your back I just wanna be there to see the last laugh Back and forth you swing From routine to obscene And I know that you're just like me And that's exactly what I like about you I guess I'm probably insane Two by four is what I'd use to smack you upside your head 'Cause you drive me crazy So don't keep singing me your sad song It's been so long Since I've gotten through And I'm not gonna be the last one Who's no fun The one that's always left behind Don't get me wrong When I don't tell you what you wanna hear And go do what you wnat And I'll try hard to be more understanding But I don't want to live like that Under your thumb, behind your back
