In 1878, Lee and his brother James Paris perfected a rifle with a box magazine in Wallaceburg . This rifle later became an antecedent to the famous Lee–Enfield rifle. A well trained gunman could fire approximately 15-30 shots a minute. The prototype was tested successfully in Wallaceburg. The rifle, still in exhistence, is housed at the Wallaceburg and District Museum.
John & James Paris Lee Commemorated
In the spring of 1964 Frank Mann, Wallaceburg’s local historian, and Darcy McKeough, Chatham-Kent’s M.P.P. corresponded. The letters discussed the possibility of erecting a plaque to commemorate the first test shot of the Lee rifle in Wallaceburg. The two discovered that they needed the approval of the Archaeological and Historic Sites Board of Ontario (A.H.S.B.O.) to get official historic site designation.
John Lee (born 22 August 1964) is the CEO of the South Sydney Rabbitohs. Previously he was CEO of Casinos, Resorts Australia (CRA) and the Tourism & Transport Forum (TTF), a senior Australian bureaucrat, former head of the NSW Department of Premier & Cabinet, Department of Commerce, Ministry of Transport and State Transit Authority.
He is a Commissioner on the Australian Sports Commission having been appointed in 2011. His involvement includes membership of the Governance and Executive Performance Sub-Committee and previously the Finance & Audit Sub-Committee. HIs community work has included serving on the Advertising Standards Board (2006-2014) and the Mary Mackillop Foundation (2005-2010).
On graduating from De La Salle College (Cronulla, NSW) in 1981, Lee successfully completed a Bachelor of Education at the University of Wollongong. Whilst studying he held the position of President of the University Union and was an elected member of the Wollongong University Council. At the same time he completed his Sports Medicine qualifications and rose to be the Head Trainer for the Cronulla Sharks under Jack Gibson and Alan Fitzgibbon. Later he successfully coached junior representative teams for the Parramatta Club winning the 1992 SG Ball competition for the Eels.
He is most notable to the wider public as co-presenter (with Gunther von Hagens) of Anatomy for Beginners (screened in the UK on Channel 4 in 2005), Autopsy: Life and Death (Channel 4, 2006) and Autopsy: Emergency Room (Channel 4, 2007).
In the first series, various aspects human anatomy were explored, with von Hagens dissecting cadavers to illustrate certain points. In the later series particular diseases were highlighted and explained, again with dissections of cadavers, allowing direct observation of the symptoms in humans.
During these programmes, Lee provided the background information about, and elucidation regarding, von Hagens' ongoing dissections. In essence, he was used to 'cut away' whilst the less telegenic parts of the dissection proceeded. This background information was usually shown on a television monitor and ensured that the audience could follow the doctors as they worked. Further anatomical and medical information was demonstrated on live models (naked persons with the relevant internal organs drawn and/or projected on to their body).
John Lee, KC (6 March 1733 – 5 August 1793), was an English lawyer, politician, and law officer of the Crown. He assisted in the early days of Unitarianism in England.
In April 1769 he appeared before the House of Commons as counsel for the petitioners against the return of Colonel Henry Luttrell for Middlesex; the petition failed. The government offered him a seat in the house and the K.C. in 1769, and in 1770 K.C. with the appointment of solicitor-general to the queen, but he refused both offers on political grounds. On 18 September 1769 he became, however, recorder of Doncaster. In 1779 he was one of the counsel for Admiral Augustus Keppel, 1st Viscount Keppel when he was tried by court-martial for his conduct in the Battle of Ushant. In 1780 Lee became a king's counsel, and in the second administration of Lord Rockingham was appointed Solicitor General for England and Wales, and sat in parliament for Clitheroe. Subsequently he was elected for Higham Ferrers and sat for that constituency till he died.

This is Why You Never Mess With a Royal Guard...
Visitors to London are often delighted to see the iconic Queens Guard standing motionless in their red coats in front of Buckingham Palace. While these guards are famous for not moving an inch even when tourists decide to mess with them, don’t let that fool you into thinking they’re just lazy or slow. In fact, the queen's guards are actually one of the most elite, highly trained and secretive soldiers in the entire world. Sure they look like fixtures to the palace, but push them too far or try to interfere with their duty and you’ll learn very quickly why that was a mistake. The elusive practices and duties of these elite, bearskin-clad guards are some of the most tightly kept secrets the English crown holds, but luckily for you we’ve got the inside scoop on these subtle warriors that will...

New South Wales pensioners will be able to enjoy the benefits Gold Opal Senior/Pensioner card which is due out before the end of the year.
The Opal card for senior and pensioner customers would be released in 2014, providing travel on all modes of public transport for no more than $2.50.
The launch of the Opal card for senior and pensioner customers comes after the recent launch of the Child/Youth Opal Card.
To help prepare for the rollout of the Opal Senior/Pensioner card there will be some changes to the way customers buy their paper Pensioner Excursion Tickets on board State Transit buses across metropolitan Sydney.
NSW Minister for Transport Gladys Berejiklian says new technology is being installed on State Transit buses to get ready for the Opal card, which this means customers will soon no longer be able to buy their paper Pensioner Excursion Tickets on board the bus.
Customers will need to buy their Pensioner Excursion Tickets before they travel on buses from more than 1,600 ticket sellers across Sydney.
"The vast majority of seniors and pensioners already buy their tickets before they board the bus -- so the change will only affect a small percentage of customers," she says.
To ensure there is a smooth transition for customers, a letter and information brochure will be sent to more than 230,000 seniors to let them know about the Opal card and provide them with a list of the retailers nearby where they can buy their bus tickets.
Information will also be made available ahead of time on buses and the Transport for NSW website.
"Before the end of the year, all pensioners and seniors will be able to get their own Gold Opal card, which means they won't have to worry about buying a ticket or fumbling for coins ever again," Berejiklian says.
Two bus routes now have Opal, with the remainder of public and private buses in Sydney, the Hunter, Illawarra and Blue Mountains to come on line by the end of the year.

Case Study: Finding John Lee—From Slavery to Freedom | Featuring Nicka Sewell-Smith | Ancestry
https://youtu.be/avMG0dZ-pxA
