John Collins Dawson IV (June 16, 1945 – July 21, 2009), nicknamed "Marmaduke", was an American musician, singer, and songwriter. He was best known as the leader and co-founder of the country rock band the New Riders of the Purple Sage.
Musical career
John Dawson was born in Chicago. His family moved to California in 1952. The son of a Los Altos Hills, California filmmaker, he took guitar lessons from a teacher and friend from the Peninsula School in Menlo Park, California. For high school he attended the Millbrook School near Millbrook, New York. While at Millbrook, he took courses in music theory & history and sang in the glee club.
John W. Dawson (December 20, 1902 – January 6, 1986) was an American amateur golfer and golf course architect.
Dawson was born in Chicago, Illinois. Although he was a lifelong amateur golfer, his amateur status was rescinded by the United States Golf Association (USGA) for a time due to his employment with the Spalding sporting goods company. His amateur status was eventually restored and he competed in several USGA events. He was runner-up (at the age of 44) to Skee Riegel in 1947 U.S. Amateur. He played on the winning 1949 U.S. Walker Cup team. He was also runner-up in 1958 U.S. Senior Amateur
As a developer, he designed and built the Seven Lakes, Thunderbird, El Dorado, and La Quinta Country Clubs; he lived in Palm Springs.
Dawson won the Southern California Golf Association (SCGA) amateur championship four times between 1942 and 1952, and was inducted into the SCGA Hall of Fame in 2007.

I like the world with you in it
With you it's a beautiful place
Cause every day you light my way
With the sunshine from your face
Without you I could play the game
But with you I can win it
Ever since we met I knew
I like the world with you in it
I’m glad that you're on this planet
During this brief moment in time
The coincidence of our existence
Really blows my mind
And when the times are tough
Your loving helps me bear and grin it
You can make the gray skies blue
I like the world with you in it
Sometimes we fight or have regrets
And we complain about the rain or sun or snow
Then life reminds us that it's over in a minute

Which is why it's so important that you know
I like the world with you in it
How could I be so blessed?
Out of all the possible universes
I like this one best
And if love makes the world go round
I'd like you to spin it
Just hold tight when you do
Cause I like the world with you in it
