Jonathan David Samuel "Jo" Jones (October 7, 1911 – September 3, 1985) was an Americanjazzdrummer. A band leader and pioneer in jazz percussion, Jones anchored the Count Basie Orchestra rhythm section from 1934 to 1948. He was sometimes known as Papa Jo Jones to distinguish him from younger drummer Philly Joe Jones
Biography
Born in Chicago, Illinois, Jones moved to Alabama, where he learned to play several instruments, including saxophone, piano, and drums. He worked as a drummer and tap-dancer at carnival shows until joining Walter Page's band, the Blue Devils in Oklahoma City in the late 1920s. He recorded with trumpeter Lloyd Hunter's Serenaders in 1931, and later joined pianist Count Basie's band in 1934. Jones, Basie, guitarist Freddie Green and bassist Walter Page were sometimes billed as an "All-American Rhythm section," an ideal team. Jones took a brief break for two years when he was in the military, but he remained with Basie until 1948. He participated in the Jazz at the Philharmonic concert series.
"Main Man" is a rock song by American singer-actress Cher from her eighteenth studio album, Cher. It was written and produced by Desmond Child.
It was released as a promotional single from the album in 1988 by Geffen.
It had originally been recorded by Desmond Child & Rouge in 1978.
Song information
"Main Man" was released as a promo CD in the United States and as a 7" inch single. In 1988 in order to promote the song, a music video was filmed and Cher sang "Main Man" during the MTV Video Music Awards. After consideration, Geffen Records decided not to officially release the song.
Critical reception
Jose F. Promis of Allmusic highlighted the song and called it "wonderfully sweet ballad."
Music video
A music video was made in which Cher roams around her then empty mansion which at the time she was selling to comedian Eddie Murphy. The video also featured clips of Cher while singing the song at the MTV music awards. Rob Camiletti, Cher's boyfriend at the time, also appears in the video.

When i start movin', you see a blur. Get hooked on me baby, there ain't no cure. I've always been able to laugh at fate. Two brown eyes filled with hate. I'm the man who makes the street his home And my lean mean hearts is just as hard as stone. Oh, I'm my main man. Don't want nothing from no one. I'm my main man. Always ready for what ever's gonna happen. Spend my time in a cold jail cell, shootin' up poison And livin' in hell and I never care what people think, My history's written on me in tattooed ink. And still life goes on tracks on my arms, And the number thirteen is my good luck charm. Oh, I'm my main man. Don't want nothing from no one. I'm my main man. Always ready for what ever's gonna happen. What happens to me is my own affair. If you don't like me, I really don't care. 'Cause no one's been what I've been through, And I don't do what people want me to do. I'll fight you till the bitter end, And then I'll screw your little girl friend. Oh, I'm my main man. Don't want nothing from no one. I'm my main man. Always ready for what ever's gonna happen.
