Jerry Reed Hubbard (March 20, 1937 – September 1, 2008), known professionally as Jerry Reed, was an American country music singer, guitarist, and songwriter, as well as an actor who appeared in more than a dozen films. His signature songs included “Guitar Man,” “U.S. Male,” “A Thing Called Love,” “Alabama Wild Man,” “Amos Moses,” “When You're Hot, You're Hot” (which garnered a Grammy Award for Best Male Country Vocal Performance), “Ko-Ko Joe,” “Lord, Mr. Ford,” “East Bound and Down” (the theme song for the 1977 blockbuster Smokey and the Bandit, in which Reed co-starred), “The Bird,” and “She Got the Goldmine (I Got the Shaft).”
Reed was born in Atlanta, Georgia, the second child of Robert and Cynthia Hubbard. Reed’s grandparents lived in Rockmart, and he would visit them from time to time. He was quoted as saying as a small child, while running around strumming his guitar, “I am gonna be a star. I’m gonna go to Nashville and be a star.” Reed’s parents separated four months after his birth, and he and his sister spent seven years in foster homes or orphanages. Reed was reunited with his mother and stepfather in 1944. Music and impromptu performances helped ease the stressful times the new family was under.
Jerry Maxwell Reed (born October 8, 1955 in Bryson City, North Carolina), is a retired Major League Baseball pitcher. He pitched for all or part of nine seasons between 1981-1990.
Reed was originally drafted out of high school by the Minnesota Twins. He was chosen in the 11th round of the 1973 Major League Baseball Draft, but did not sign, instead opting to attend Western Carolina University. After four years at WCU, Reed was again drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 22nd round of the 1977 draft. He played the next four seasons in their farm system before earning a September call-up in 1981.
Reed pitched just 41⁄3 innings in 4 games in the majors in '81. He pitched another 7 games for the Phillies in 1982, then was traded to the Cleveland Indians with two other prospects (Wil Culmer and Roy Smith) in exchange for John Denny to boost the Phillies' September stretch run, which fell three games short of the division-winning St. Louis Cardinals.

What a Woman! also known as The Beautiful Cheat is a 1943 black-and-white romantic comedy movie starring Rosalind Russell and Brian Aherne. Aherne appeared with Rosalind Russell in four films: Hired Wife (1940), My Sister Eileen (1942), What a Woman! (1943) and Rosie! (1967).
The movie revolves around a literary agent Carol Ainsley's trying to transform her star client, Michael Cobb, into the actor playing his most famous character. After it becomes obvious that it's impossible and he quits, Henry Pepper, a journalist writing a profile on the agent, calls him and convinces him that he's in love with Carol. Michael returns and the media embellishes their relationship constraining Carol to lead him on.
Henry Pepper (Brian Aherne), top writer for Knickerbocker magazine, is assigned to write a profile on Carol Ainsley (Rosalind Russell), who has been named the outstanding career woman of the year. Carol, a super agent and star-maker, has just scooped her competition by selling the movie rights to the romance novel Whirlwind and is spending a fortune to find the perfect actor to play the male lead. When Carol learns that the book's author, Anthony Street, may be the man to play his own hero, she searches him out and discovers that he is actually Professor Michael Cobb (Willard Parker) of Buxton College.
A Woman was Charlie Chaplin's ninth film for Essanay Films. It was made in Los Angeles at the Majestic Studio and released in 1915. Jerry Reed nimbly performs his plucky rendition of "City Of New Orleans", written by Steve Goodman. The song was made famous by Arlo Guthrie and has been covered by many artists since then including Willie Nelson, with his Grammy-winning version. Burt Reynolds recalls the most terrifying scene during the filming of Smokey and the Bandit. He remembers the scene where Sally Fields' stunt double was behind the wheel and he was in the passenger seat. They were supposed to jump over a wall, land in the Little League baseball field, go AROUND the game, and then through another wall. However, that's not exactly what happened. Instead of going around the game, the stunt woman panicked and they ended up flying over all the kids in the field. Luckily, they all ducked and nobody was hurt. But as you can imagine it could've ended quite differently and put an end to a lot of peoples careers... Well, I quit my job down at the car wash
And left my mama a goodbye note
By sundown, I'd left Kingston
With my guitar up under my coat
I hitchhiked all the way down to Memphis
Got a room at the YMCA
For the next three weeks
I went a hauntin' them nightclubs
Lookin' for a place to play
Well, I thought my pickin'
Would set 'em on fire
But nobody wanted to hire
A guitar man
Well, I nearly 'bout starved to death down in Memphis
I run out of money and luck
So I bummed me a ride down to Macon, Georgia
On a overloaded poultry truck
I thumbed on down to Panama City
Started checkin' out some of them all night bars
Hopin' I can make myself a dollar
Makin' music on my guitar
Got the same old story
At them all night piers
"There ain't no room around here for a guitar man
We don't need a guitar man, son"
So I slept in the hobo jungles
I bummed a thousand miles of track
Till I found myself in Mobile, Alabama
In a club they call Big Jack's
A little four piece band was jammin'
So I took my guitar and I sat in
I showed 'em what a band would sound like
With a swingin' little guitar man, show 'em, son
Yeah
So if you ever take a trip down to the ocean
Find yourself down 'round Mobile
Well, make it on out to the club called Jack's
Till you got a little time to kill
Just follow that crowd of people
You'll wind up out on his dance floor
Diggin' the finest little five piece group
Up and down the Gulf of Mexico
And guess who's leadin'
That five piece band
Why, wouldn't you know
It's that swingin' little guitar man, yeah
