In 1972 he was a crew member of the British boat which finished seventh in the coxless fours event.
Four years later at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal he won the silver medal with the British boat in the eights competition.
At the 1977 (Amsterdam) and 1978 (Karapiro NZ) World Rowing Championships, he won Silver medals both years rowing with John Roberts in the coxless pair event.
At the 1980 Games in Moscow he and his partner Chris Baillieu finished fourth in the double sculls contest.
During the early 1970s he was a physical education schoolmaster at Cardinal Vaughan Grammar School, where he taught and coached the future Olympic champion oarsman Martin Cross. Cross identifies Clark as a major influence and inspiration in his memoirs. Subsequently Clark was master in charge of rowing at Latymer Upper School, where among his early protégés there was the double Olympic rowing gold medallist, Andy Holmes. He then became a DT teacher and retired from teaching in the summer of 2010. James Clark also coached at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, where his sculler Beryl Mitchell finished sixth in the final. In 1992 he was the chief Olympic coach to the Danish Rowing Team, where his crew finished seventh in the eights.
Born in London and educated at Charterhouse and Merton College, Oxford, Clark has lived in Bangkok, Thailand since , and is now a permanent resident. He owns a company called Thai Open Source Software Center, which provides him a legal framework for his open-source activities.
James Clark served as Technical Lead of the Working Group that developed XML—notably contributing the self-closing, empty-element tag syntax (for example: "<tagname/>"), and the name XML. His contributions to XML are cited in dozens of books on the subject.
James is the author or co-author of a number of influential specifications and implementations, including:
He is listed as part of the Working Group that developed the Java Streaming API for XML (StAX) JSR 173 at the JCP.
Clark Ernst Brown is the vocalist for GZR. He took over from Burton C. Bell, who had guested on Plastic Planet (1995) and has remained since. Clark is also the vocalist for SYMATIC, a Hardcore Metal band out of Massachusetts.
Brown was born in Worcester, Massachusetts and grew up in a small home with parents Karla and Leo Brown, and sister Jen. He cites Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple as influences. Clark was the former lead singer for Worcester (a.k.a. Wormtown) bands such as Dr.Bewkenheimer and Stoolface and remains a local legend. He is currently the vocalist for Strangler Needsa Manicure.
Clark is the official team mascot of Major League Baseball's Chicago Cubs. He was announced on January 13, 2014 as the first official mascot in the modern history of the Cubs franchise. He was introduced that day at the Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center's pediatric developmental center along with some of the Cubs' top prospects such as number one draft pickKris Bryant and Albert Almora, Jorge Soler, Mike Olt and Eric Jokisch. Over a dozen Cubs prospects were attending the Cubs' Rookie Development Program that week. The Cubs become the 27th team in Major League Baseball to have a mascot, leaving the Los Angeles Angels, Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees as the remaining franchises without mascots. According to the Cubs' press release, Clark is a response to fan demands (expressed via surveys and interviews) for more kid-friendly elements at Wrigley Field Cubs games to keep pace with games in other cities that have more to offer youth fans.
Description
He is a "young, friendly Cub" who will wear a backwards baseball cap and greet fans entering Wrigley Field, which is located at the corner of Clark Street (for which he is named) and Addison Street. North Clark Street borders the third base side of Wrigley Field. According to the Cubs, the fictional character Clark is descended from Joa, the franchise's original live Bears mascot in 1916.
