Jack Kirby (/ˈkɜːrbi/; August 28, 1917– February 6, 1994), born Jacob Kurtzberg, was an Americancomic book artist, writer, and editor widely regarded as one of the medium's major innovators and one of its most prolific and influential creators.
Kirby grew up poor in New York City, and learned to draw cartoon figures by tracing characters from comic strips and editorial cartoons. He entered the nascent comics industry in the 1930s, drawing various comics features under different pen names, including Jack Curtiss, before ultimately settling on Jack Kirby. In 1940, he and writer-editor Joe Simon created the highly successful superhero character Captain America for Timely Comics, predecessor of Marvel Comics. During the 1940s, Kirby, generally teamed with Simon, created numerous characters for that company and for National Comics, later to become DC Comics.
After serving in World War II, Kirby produced work for a number of publishers, including DC, Harvey Comics, Hillman Periodicals. At Crestwood Publications he and Simon created the genre of romance comics and later founded their own short-lived comic company, Mainline Publications. Ultimately, Kirby found himself at Timely's 1950s iteration, Atlas Comics, which in the next decade became Marvel. There, in the 1960s, Kirby and writer-editor Stan Lee co-created many of the company's major characters, including the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, and the Hulk. The Lee-Kirby titles garnered high sales and critical acclaim, but in 1970, feeling he had been treated unfairly, Kirby left the company for rival DC.
John 'Jack' Kirby (born 30 September 1910 in Overseal, died 15 June 1960 in Derby) was an English football goalkeeper.
Kirby joined Derby County from Newhall United in April 1929 and made his debut in the 1929-30 season. In 1934 he was part of the Derby side that toured Germany. Kirby defied the German authorities by being the only member of the team to refuse to give the Nazi salute before each game. He left in August 1938 he became player-manager of Folkestone Town, a position he held until August 1939.
Kirby was a small forward and is the earliest known player to have kicked a goal with his first kick in the VFL. He had a good start to his career from a team point of view as well, not experiencing a loss until his 15th game. Kirby topped Essendon's goal-kicking in 1912 with 43 goals and again the following season when he kicked 29 goals. He was a member of Essendon's premiership teams in 1911 and 1912.

Jack Kirby is one of the most prolific and most influential comic book artists. In this video, I take a look at Jack's Jewish background and how his interest in his religion and others informed his creations. From Thor to The New Gods to Eternals, Jack Kirby was fascinated with the concept of gods and mankind's relationship with a higher power. This video breaks down some of those specific influences and history.
