Carly Elisabeth Simon (born June 25, 1945) is an American singer-songwriter, musician and children's author. She first rose to fame in the 1970s with a string of hit records; her 13 Top 40 U.S. hits include "Anticipation" (No. 13), "You Belong To Me" (No. 6), "Coming Around Again" (No. 18), and her four Gold certified singles "Jesse" (No. 11), "Mockingbird" (No. 5), a duet with James Taylor, "You're So Vain" (No. 1), and "Nobody Does It Better" (No. 2) from the 1977 James Bond film, The Spy Who Loved Me.
After a brief stint with her sister Lucy Simon as duo group the Simon Sisters, she found great success as a solo artist with her 1971 self-titled debut album Carly Simon, which won her the Grammy Award for Best New Artist, and spawned her first Top 10 single "That's the Way I've Always Heard It Should Be". Simon achieved international fame with her third album No Secrets which sat firmly at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 for 5 weeks, and spawned the worldwide hit "You're So Vain", for which she received three Grammy nominations, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year. Over the course of her career, Simon has amassed 24 Billboard Hot 100 charting singles, 28 Billboard Adult Contemporary charting singles, and has won two Grammy Awards. AllMusic called Simon, "One of the quintessential singer/songwriters of the '70s". Simon has a contralto vocal range.
Carly Simon is singer-songwriter Carly Simon's self-titled debut/studio album, released in February 1971. The album was released by Elektra Records and produced by Eddie Kramer, who had previously worked with Joe Cocker and Jimi Hendrix.
The album included her first big hit, "That's the Way I've Always Heard It Should Be", a sombre ballad centered on a woman pondering marriage with a sense of both inevitability and entrapment. Simon wrote the music and her friend and frequent collaborator Jacob Brackman wrote the lyrics.
Carly Simon was mostly well received by critics when released. Timothy Crouse, writing in Rolling Stone, stated "Carly's voice perfectly matches her material" and her "...superbly controlled voice is complemented by deft arrangements." Robert Christgau was not as pleased. Grading the album a C-, he wrote "I suppose it makes sense not only for the privileged to inflict their sensibilities on us, but for many of us to dig it." In more recent years, William Ruhlmann, writing for Allmusic, gave the album a three and a half star rating out of a possible five, and stated "That's the Way I've Always Heard It Should Be" and "Dan, My Fling", were the stand-out tracks.
"Itsy Bitsy Spider" (also known as "Incy Wincy Spider" and several other similar sounding names) is a popular nursery rhyme and fingerplay that describes the adventures of a spider as it ascends, descends, and reascends the downspout or "waterspout" of a gutter system (or, alternatively, the spout of a teapot or open-air reservoir). It is usually accompanied by a sequence of gestures that mimic the words of the song. Its Roud Folk Song Index number is 11586.
A commonly used version uses these words and gestures:
Other versions exist. The version in the video above, for example, says went instead of climbed.
The song can be found in publications including an alternate version in the book, Camp and Camino in Lower California (1910), where it was referred to as [the classic] "Spider Song". It appears to be a more different version of this song using “blooming, bloody” instead of just "itsy bitsy". It was later published in one of its several modern versions in Western Folklore, by the California Folklore Society (1948), Mike and Peggy Seeger's, American Folk Songs for Children (1948), and The Growing Family: A Guide for Parents by Maxwell Slutz Stewart (1955). In 2013 Maziar Bahari's company Off-Centre Productions created an animated version of the song featuring an animated mouse character called Journo.
The Itsy Bitsy Spider is an American animated fantasy-comedy television series. It was based on the Itsy Bitsy Spider short film produced by Hyperion Animation. It was broadcast on the USA Network's USA Cartoon Express. The series revolves around a tomboyish little girl named Leslie McGroarty who is befriended by a four-eyed spider named Itsy, and two adversaries, the Exterminator and her teacher Adrienne. The series focuses mainly on the Exterminator's futile attempts to rid the world of the arachnid pest his job calls for. This series features a full half-hour episode, and was used Tex Avery-influence style. The series is rated TV-Y7. The opening song of the series is preceded by the following dialogue:
"Itsy Bitsy Spider" is a nursery rhyme.

I'll take some of this, I'll have some of that
And several more of these
Now that I see it, I know what I like
So I'll like it if you please
I ain't nobody's princess, stuck in Sunday School
So I'll help myself to love
And have the whole career
Don't wrap it up, I'll eat it here
Just look at you now, the ultimate guy
Class and wit and style
Once I might have pretended, to be someone else
Attracting you with guile
But now I'm not about to dress up, in some other woman's shoes
I've got nothing to lose
So I'll help myself to love,
Gather round and cheer
Don't wrap it up, I'll eat it here
I've stood there patiently waiting in line
A take-out man's an O.K. plan
If you've got lots of time
Especially if he's biodegradable
I ain't nobody's princess
I ain't nobody's fool
So I'll help myself to love
There's nothing more to fear
