Alice Morely-Johnson is an old lady who is worth several million dollars. She had been a popular pianist and now she has retired to live in a penthouse with a chauffeur named Bromhead who serves her impeccably. Her financial matters are handled by a banker named Chris Patterson who is doing it because he knows that Miss Morely-Johnson is fond of him and gives him costly gifts. When Miss Morely-Johnson’s companion-help goes away, she asks Patterson to search for one. Patterson falls for an applicant named Sheila and even Miss Morely-Johnson seems to like her because allegedly she had played on stage with her father.
Patterson is excited about Sheila getting the job because he can meet her. What Patterson does not know is that Sheila has been fixed beforehand by Bromhead, the chauffeur who plans to execute a perfect crime of killing Miss Morely-Johnson and making it appear like an accident so that all her insurance money goes to a nephew of hers, Harry, who is in love with Sheila. The plan was that after her death they would divide the money in three equal parts and move on, but the plan begins to go awry when the detective on duty in the penthouse senses something fishy about Sheila dressing up as someone else leaving the penthouse.
A Matter of Time is the second and final album released by American country music artist Jason Sellers. Its title track was a Top 40 hit for him on the BillboardHot Country Songs charts in 1999. One day after the album's release, Sellers exited BNA Records' roster.
Philip van Vleck of Allmusic gave the album four-and-a-half stars out of five, saying "It's the uptempo tracks that have made this project an effort that supersedes his first album in every aspect."
The book was re-published in 2011, along with other earlier works of Glen Cook.
Plot summary
The book has three distinct plot lines, set out in alternating chapters, and weaving back and forth in time. The reader, sharing the various points of view of the alternating characters, is in effect omniscient, knowing many things which are a mystery to the characters themselves.
First plot line ("The Y Axis")
The main plot line centers on Norman Cash, a middle aged police detective sergeant at St. Louis, Missouri and his younger partner John Harald. On 3 March 1975, the police is perplexed at finding a body on a snowbound street. The man had died of unclear causes, cannot be identified or accounted for by any investigation, is not on file anywhere and carried nothing on his body except for a handful of American coins from the early 20th Century – the latest being a 1921 coin in mint condition.
Matter of Time is the first studio album by the band Axium. The album was mixed, mastered, and produced by Mitch Rosenow and features David Cook (vocals, guitar); Bobby Kerr (drums); Jerron Nichols (bass); and Jeff Shrout (guitar).
Liberman is the fifth studio album by American singer-songwriter Vanessa Carlton, released on October 23, 2015, through Dine Alone Records. It is the follow up to Carlton's 2011 album Rabbits on the Run and marks her first release since signing with Dine Alone Records. The title of the album comes from an oil painting made by Carlton's late grandfather, whose given surname was Liberman.
Background and writing
Following the 2011 release Rabbits on the Run, Carlton took time off to get married, start a family and write another album. She tells CBS News that these changes in her life are reflected in Liberman's songs and that she "wanted the whole album to feel like an escape type of album, where you put it on and you feel like you're in this dreamy state."
To avoid preconceived notions, demos recorded were sent to Dine Alone Records without Carlton's name attached. Label president Joel Carriere recalls hearing the demos and tells The Toronto Star, "The songs were amazing, it was atmospheric, it kind of fit into what we’re all into ... and we never would have guessed it was Vanessa Carlton because her voice has developed so much since her pop songs 14 years ago and the songwriting had obviously changed. We were, like: 'Yeah, we want to do this. But what is it we’re doing?'"
