The group's declared mission is to "rescue and protect animals around the world."
History
The International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) was founded by a small group of people in 1969, to stop the commercial hunt for seal pups in Canada. One of IFAW's founders, and possibly its most well known member, is Brian Davies.
With offices in over a dozen countries, and projects in more than 40 IFAW is one of the largest animal welfare organisations in the world.
Activities
Rescuing and releasing whales, dolphins and porpoises that have stranded or been entangled in nets and fishing gear.
IFAW aims to protect the last 400 critically endangered North Atlantic right whales, and have developed acoustic detection systems, and collaborate with lobstermen, commercial fishers and shipping industries to prevent collisions with ships and gear entanglements.
Animal welfare is the well-being of animals. The standards of "good" animal welfare vary considerably between different contexts. These standards are under constant review and are debated, created and revised by animal welfare groups, legislators and academics worldwide.Animal welfare science uses various measures, such as longevity, disease, immunosuppression, behavior, physiology, and reproduction, although there is debate about which of these indicators provide the best information.
Concern for animal welfare is often based on the belief that non-human animals are sentient and that consideration should be given to their well-being or suffering, especially when they are under the care of humans. These concerns can include how animals are slaughtered for food, how they are used in scientific research, how they are kept (as pets, in zoos, farms, circuses, etc.), and how human activities affect the welfare and survival of wild species.
Animal welfare was a concern of some ancient civilizations but began to take a larger place in Western public policy in 19th-century Great Britain. In the 21st century, it is a significant focus of interest in science, ethics, and animal welfare organizations.

We collaborate with IFAW to reimagine their brand in order to better communicate their unique approach to the widest possible audience. We wanted to show how IFAW’s experts work in the field, challenging the standard codes of beauty shots of animals in the wild and guilt-inducing pleas for help.
The website is an integral part of IFAW’s rebrand. Immersive “bite-sized” pieces of information draw readers in while there is always the option to dive much deeper with journalistic coverage of projects. Paired with calls to action, the content allows visitors to become active participants in a mission together with IFAW.

IFAW International Fund for Animal Welfare in Ukraine
Since the start of the Ukrainian war, IFAW has been working in Ukraine and Poland to help as many animals as possible. From March to May 2022, the team supported refugees and their animals at the ‘blue tent,’ providing them with comfort, food and supplies to continue their journey. While cats and dogs were the most common pets that refugees brought into the tent, we also saw white rats, bunnies and hamsters.

Brains in bits - Electrodes attached Crowded in pens - For eggs to hatch Rabbits don't cry - Mice don't fight Join the animals - In their plight The answer is simple No we're not cripples You should care If you fucking dare The liberators - Got good intentions But not through violence - Just break their sentence Peaceful means - Should be used To show disgust - At animals abused Free the creatures God's so called preachers Let them live Is that much to give? Fux fur coats - And seal skin jackets Look better on animals - Than hanged old faggots And guts - Death & pain Needless killing - Cos they're so vain Stop the culls More smashed skulls Just let them live Or is that much to give
