The Interim Peace (Finnish:Välirauhan aika, Swedish:Mellanfreden) was a short period in the history of Finland during the Second World War. The term is used for the time between the Winter War and the Continuation War, lasting a little over a year, from 13 March 1940 to 24 June 1941. The Moscow Peace Treaty was signed by Finland and the Soviet Union on 12 March 1940 and it ended the 105-day Winter War.
In the aftermath of the Winter War, both the Soviet Union and Finland were preparing for a new war while the Soviets pressured the Finns politically. In early 1940 Finland sued for an alliance with Sweden but both the Soviet Union and Germany opposed it. In April, Germany occupied Denmark and Norway. In June the Soviet Union occupied the Baltic states. Next year Finland negotiated their participation in the Axis invasion of the Soviet Union.
Background
The Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact and the Winter War
The 1939 Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact clarified Soviet–German relations and enabled the Soviet Union to bring pressure to bear on the small Baltic republics and Finland, perhaps in order to better her strategic position in Eastern Europe in case of a widening of the war. The Baltic republics soon gave in to Soviet demands for bases and troop transfer rights, but Finland continued to refuse. As diplomatic pressure had failed, arms were resorted to, and on November 30, 1939, the Soviet Union began an invasion of Finland—the Winter War.

UN Peace Operations say Lebanon obliged to respect safety and security of U.N. Peacekeepers
The United Nations head of Peace Operations says the parties to the conflict in southern Lebanon have an obligation to respect the safety and security of U.N. Peacekeepers operational in that area. While the Interim Force in Lebanon - or UNIFIL - was first deployed to patrol Lebanon's southern border with Israel in 1978, its mandate was amended in 2006 allowing peacekeepers to help the Lebanese army keep the area free of weapons, or armed personnel other than those operated by the Government and the U.N.
However, Hezbollah effectively controls southern Lebanon. It is a force far superior to the official army.
But with Israel's ground incursion there, the role of UNIFIL peacekeepers have been brought into question, particularly in an environment where there is no peace to keep.
