Pacific gull
The Pacific gull (Larus pacificus) is a very large gull, native to the coasts of Australia. It is moderately common between Carnarvon in the west, and Sydney in the east, although it has become scarce in some parts of the south-east, as a result of competition from the kelp gull, which has "self-introduced" since the 1940s.
Much larger than the ubiquitous silver gull, and nowhere near as common, Pacific gulls are usually seen alone or in pairs, loafing around the shoreline, steadily patrolling high above the edge of the water, or (sometimes) zooming high on the breeze to drop a shellfish or sea urchin onto rocks.
Taxonomy
The Pacific gull was first described by English ornithologist John Latham in 1801 from a Thomas Watling drawing, where the local name had been recorded as Troo-gad-dill. Its specific epithet refers to the Pacific Ocean.
Two subspecies are recognised: the nominate race L. p. pacificus from the south-east coast and Tasmania, and L. p. georgii from South Australia and Western Australia.

Square (album)
Square is a studio album by Canadian hip hop musician Buck 65. It was released on WEA in 2002. Though it consists of four tracks, each track consists of multiple songs.
It was nominated for the 2003 Juno Awards for Alternative Album of the Year and Album Design of the Year.
Reception
Rollie Pemberton of Pitchfork Media gave Square a 7.0 out of 10 and called it "a melodic mix of folk rock sensibility, smooth early 90s style production, clever lyrical observations and a relatively enjoyable train ride into the mental station of Halifax's best-known emcee." Meanwhile, Clay Jarvis of Stylus Magazine gave the album a grade of B+, saying, "Square is built solely out of his strengths: hazy introspection, sparse snare-and-kick beats and simple, dismal instrumental refrains."

Square (sailing)
The term to square a yard is used when sailing a square-rigged ship.
To "square a yard" is to lay the yards at right angles to the line of the keel by trimming with the braces.
Explanation
"Squaring a yard" adjusts the position of the square sails so that they are perpendicular to the keel of the ship. This is done in order to "run before the wind', i.e., sail with the wind directly behind the vessel rather than tacking.
When a square-rigger is running downwind, and the yards are positioned perpendicular to the line of the keel, both sheets that control the yard (braces) are tied off aft (i.e., straight back), leading to the figurative phrase "Both sheets aft."
"Both sheets aft, The situation of a square-rigged ship that sails before the wind, or with the wind right astern. It is said also of a half-drunken sailor rolling along with his hands in his pockets and elbows square."

"Square ... A term peculiarly appropriated to the yards and their sails. Thus, when the yards hang at right angles with the mast they are said to be 'square by the lifts;' when perpendicular to the ship's length, they are 'square by the braces;' but when they lie in a direction perpendicular to the plane of the keel, they arc 'square by the lifts and braces.' The yards are said to be very square when they are of extraordinary length, and the same epithet is applied to their sails with respect to their breadth."

Pacific (stylized as pacific) is the second studio album by Japanese musical group NEWS, released on November 7, 2007. The album reached the number one position on the Oricon Daily Album Chart and Oricon Weekly Album Chart. Four singles have been released from this album. The limited edition includes a 74-page photobook, while the regular edition comes with an 18-page booklet and 2 bonus tracks. It was released simultaneously with the single "Weeeek."

Pacific Marine Ecozone (CEC)
The Pacific Marine Ecozone is a Canadian and American marine ecozone extending to the international waters of the Pacific Ocean from the coasts of Alaska, British Columbia, Washington and Oregon. The islands within the Canadian portion are part of the adjacent Pacific Maritime ecozone.
Famous for its tourism and an important shipping channel for Canada, the zone is subject to intense human activity which has damaged ecosystems. Primary effects include overfishing, pollution and even direct habitat destruction. The large and increasing population in nearby coastal areas, including the major centres of Vancouver and Seattle, exerts significant strain on the natural habitats within this ecozone.
Geography
The large rivers flowing from the Rocky Mountains are a source of nutrients for this ecologically diverse region. They enter the shallow waters over the continental shelf, which underlays the entire ecozone and represents the edge of the North American tectonic plate. This plate is constantly folding under the Pacific Plate, causing volcanic activity at their juncture and earthquakes along the coast.

This year-old immature Pacific Gull was plunge-diving for small Portunid crabs in the shallows of the Port Denison Boat Harbour on Western Australia’s Midwest coast. After catching, then nearly dropping a crab it flew to the beach to subdue and then eat its prey, watched on by several Silver Gulls.

This bird Video is part of my channel started in 2015. My ambition is to showcase 500 Australian bird species. I am passionate about Bird Video as it Potentially shows bird behaviour, breeding and often bird song. I began birdwatching when I was 12 and progressed to bird photography and then to bird Video for the past 15 years. Originally from the UK, I find birding in Australia exciting and engaging. I have now travelled around Australia twice but mainly film birds in Queensland. Many of the bird clips are taken from hides or blinds that I construct from bush materials, saving the need to carry a hide to a location. Knowing bird calls and song is a big part of finding each species and naturally, knowing the habitat requirements helps also. Enjoy.

Square Knot is also known as a reef knot. It is easy to tie, but when you join two lines together be aware because it easily slips and comes undone. Lateen Sail How it Works, Rigging and Sailing.
I'll will quickly show you how a lateen sail works by rigging and sailing a traditional Tagus wooden boat that we care for at the club. These smaller boats are called "Catraios". This boat was in a warehouse for decades and it was in a really bad state. Last year it was restored by a local lad who unfortunately passed away. He never finished the work nor even tried the boat.😔 Nowadays it is at the sailing club's care and we will try to keep it in sailing condition. I have rigged a small lateen sail and finished all the cleats, mast step and other parts so that we can try her out . Pacific Gulls (Larus pacificus) are Australia’s largest species of gull. They are active hunters, plunge-diving in shallow intertidal waters to catch molluscs , fish, crabs and sea urchins. This year-old immature Pacific Gull was plunge-diving for small Portunid crabs in the shallows of the Port Denison Boat Harbour on Western Australia’s Midwest coast. After catching, then nearly dropping a crab it flew to the beach to subdue and then eat its prey, watched on by several Silver Gulls.

The Pacific gull is a very large gull, native to the coasts of Australia. It is moderately common between Carnarvon in the west, and Sydney in the east, although it has become scarce in some parts of the south-east, as a result of competition from the kelp gull, which has "self-introduced" since the 1940s.
Much larger than the ubiquitous silver gull, and nowhere near as common, Pacific gulls are usually seen alone or in pairs, loafing around the shoreline, steadily patrolling high above the edge of the water, or zooming high on the breeze to drop a shellfish or sea urchin onto rocks.
Pacific gulls are the only large gulls in their range, besides the occasional kelp gull. This species can range in length from 58 to 66 cm (23 to 26 in) and span 137 to 157 cm (54 to 62 in) across the wings. They typically weigh from 900 to 1,180 g (1.98 to 2.60 lb). This species is mostly white, with dark wings and back, and a very thick (when compared to other gull species), powerful, red-tipped yellow bill. They have salt glands that secrete salty water through the nostrils. Young birds are mottled-brown all over, and attain their adult plumage only gradually; by its fourth year, a young Pacific gull has usually become difficult to tell apart from an adult bird.
Of the two subspecies, the nominate eastern race prefers sheltered beaches, and the western race. georgii is commonly found even on exposed shores. Both subspecies nest in pairs or loose colonies on offshore islands, making a cup of grasses and sticks in an exposed position, and laying two or three mottled brown eggs.
The Pacific gull was first described by English ornithologist John Latham in 1801 from a Thomas Watling drawing, where the local name had been recorded as Troo-gad-dill.Its specific epithet refers to the Pacific Ocean.

This bird Video is part of my channel started in 2015. My ambition is to showcase 500 Australian bird species. I am passionate about Bird Video as it Potentially shows bird behaviour, breeding and often bird song.
I began birdwatching when I was 12 and progressed to bird photography and then to bird Video for the past 15 years.
Originally from the UK, I find birding in Australia exciting and engaging. I have now travelled around Australia twice but mainly film birds in Queensland.
Many of the bird clips are taken from hides or blinds that I construct from bush materials, saving the need to carry a hide to a location.
Knowing bird calls and song is a big part of finding each species and naturally, knowing the habitat requirements helps also.

I'll will quickly show you how a lateen sail works by rigging and sailing a traditional Tagus wooden boat that we care for at the club. These smaller boats are called "Catraios".
This boat was in a warehouse for decades and it was in a really bad state. Last year it was restored by a local lad who unfortunately passed away.
He never finished the work nor even tried the boat.😔
Nowadays it is at the sailing club's care and we will try to keep it in sailing condition.
I have rigged a small lateen sail and finished all the cleats, mast step and other parts so that we can try her out .
It was not perfect but it was fun as always!😉

Preussen (Preußen) was a German steel-hulled, five-masted, ship-rigged sailing ship built in 1902 for the F. Laeisz shipping company and named after the German state and kingdom of Prussia. She was the world's only ship of this class with five masts, carrying six square sails on each mast.
