"Ich bin ein Berliner"
On June 26, 1963, President Kennedy gave a speech in West Berlin, confirming support of the United States for West Germany after the Soviet-supported East Germany erected the Berlin Wall.
Considered one of Kennedy's best speeches and a notable moment of the Cold War, it was a great morale boost for West Berliners who feared possible East German occupation. Speaking to an audience of 450,000, Kennedy said, "All free men, wherever they may live, are citizens of Berlin, and therefore, as a free man, I take pride in the words 'Ich bin ein Berliner!'"

John F. Kennedy's speech in Berlin
Check out http://mentorinabox.blogspot.com/ A Toastmaster meeting is a laboratory to practice communication and leadership skills. As you become more comfortable with speaking and taking on leadership roles, you will naturally convey this comfort through your body language. However, becoming a student of body language (or nonverbal communication) can bring your leadership skills to a more advanced level. Shoot for the Moon! Find speakers you can model some of your body language after during a speech or leadership role. For example, John F. Kennedy may be a good role model for speeches with 'pomp and circumstance.' Forever enshrined in myth by an assassin's bullet, Kennedy's presidency long defied objective appraisal. Recent assessments have revealed an administration long on promise and vigor, and somewhat lacking in tangible accomplishment. His proposals for a tax cut and civil rights legislation, however, promised significant gains in the months before his assassination. While maturation, as evidenced in the handling of the Cuban missile crisis, was apparent, the potential legacy of the New Frontier will forever be left to speculation.

Kennedy may be a good role model for speeches with 'pomp and circumstance.' Refer to past speeches for inspiration. Use of this video is for educational purposes and therefore permitted by Copyright Act of 1976, 17 U.S.C. § 107.
