Thomas Alan Waits (born December 7, 1949) is an American singer-songwriter, composer, and actor. Waits has a distinctive voice, described by critic Daniel Durchholz as sounding like "it was soaked in a vat of bourbon, left hanging in the smokehouse for a few months, and then taken outside and run over with a car." With this trademark growl, his incorporation of pre-rock music styles such as blues, jazz, and vaudeville, and experimental tendencies verging on industrial music, Waits has built up a distinctive musical persona. He has worked as a composer for movies and musicals and has acted in supporting roles in films, including Paradise Alley and Bram Stoker's Dracula. He also starred in Jim Jarmusch's 1986 film Down by Law. He was nominated for an Academy Award for his soundtrack work on One from the Heart.
Waits' lyrics frequently present atmospheric portraits of grotesque, often seedy characters and places—although he has also shown a penchant for more conventional ballads. He has a cult following and has influenced subsequent songwriters despite having little radio or music video support. His songs are best-known through cover versions by more commercial artists: "Jersey Girl", performed by Bruce Springsteen, "Ol' '55", by the Eagles, and "Downtown Train", by Rod Stewart. Although Waits' albums have met with mixed commercial success in his native United States, they have occasionally achieved gold album sales status in other countries. He has been nominated for a number of major music awards and has won Grammy Awards for two albums, Bone Machine and Mule Variations. In 2011, Waits was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He is also included among the 2010 list of Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Singers. and the 2015 list of Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Songwriters of All Time.
I WiSH is a Japanese pop group consisting of two members, Ai Kawashima and nao. Ai is responsible for the vocals and occasionally plays the piano also with nao on the keyboard or piano. Their most notable track is "Asu e no tobira" (明日への扉) and was in the Oricon rankings for over a year.
Nao learned the piano when he was 5 years old. He started making original music, for example "Asu e no tobira" (明日への扉), "Futatsuboshi" (ふたつ星), "Yakusoku no hi" (約束の日) and so on. He won the grand prix held by YAMAHA. According to his web site, he has a perfect pitch.
Ai Kawashima's father was missing before she was born, and her mother died when she was just three years old. She was adopted by Kawashima’s family as an adopted daughter after she spent some time in an orphanage. She learned how to play the piano when she was only 3 years old. In 1999, she debuted as an Enka singer, however, it wasn’t a hit. In 2002, they started a life on the road by singing with their own electric piano as a companiment. In 2005, March 24, they dissolved “I WISH,” because they want to concentrate on solo activity. But in 2008, they resolved one more time for a last single together.
"I Wish" is a song by J-pop idol group Morning Musume and was released September 6, 2000 as their tenth single. It sold a total of 654,640 copies. "I Wish" was the song used in Japanese commercials for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, which also featured the girls in the commercials. Lead vocals in the song are Ai Kago and Maki Goto. It was a number-one hit on the Oricon Charts in Japan.
"I Wish" is the third single from Gabrielle and the third from her debut album Find Your Way. Written by Gabrielle and Jon Douglas, "I Wish" was not as successful as its predecessors, which both reached the UK top ten. "I Wish" charted at #26 on the UK singles chart and remains one of Gabrielle's lowest peaking singles to date. The only other of her singles to chart lower was "Ten Years Time", released eleven years later, which charted outside the UK top forty.
In the U.S. it became her second and final single to chart there, peaking at #52.

In 2000 the Italian singer Mariadele made a cover of the song, titled "Vorrei", achieving a good response in Italy.
Wide Prairie is a posthumous compilation by Linda McCartney. The album was compiled and released in 1998 by Paul McCartney after his wife's death, after a fan wrote in enquiring about "Seaside Woman"; a reggae beat type song which Wings had recorded in 1972, under the name Suzy and the Red Stripes, featuring Linda on lead vocals. Her husband compiled all her recordings with the help of Parlophone Records and MPL Communications. Lead guitar on the song "The Light Comes from Within" is played by the McCartneys' son, musician/sculptor James McCartney. The album reached number 127 in the UK charts, while the title track made the top 75, at number 74. "The Light Comes from Within" also charted, at number 56 in the UK charts.
All songs by Linda McCartney, except where noted.
New Orleans is a 1947 musical drama featuring Billie Holiday as a singing maid and Louis Armstrong as a bandleader; supporting players Holiday and Armstrong perform together and portray a couple becoming romantically involved. During one song, Armstrong's character introduces the members of his band, a virtual Who's Who of classic jazz greats, including trombonist Kid Ory, drummer Zutty Singleton, clarinetist Barney Bigard, guitar player Bud Scott, bassist George "Red" Callender, pianist Charlie Beal, and pianist Meade Lux Lewis. Also performing in the film is cornetist Mutt Carey and bandleader Woody Herman. The music, however, takes a back seat to a rather conventional plot. The movie stars Arturo de Cordova and Dorothy Patrick, features Marjorie Lord, and was directed by Arthur Lubin.
New Orleans has its origins in an abandoned component of an unfinished RKO Pictures feature film by Orson Welles — "The Story of Jazz" segment of It's All True. A history of jazz alternatively titled "Jam Session", the section of the film was being written by Elliot Paul in 1941 under contract to Welles. The story of Louis Armstrong was to have been central to that segment of It's All True.
New Orleans is home to a wide variety of sporting events. Most notable are the home games of the New Orleans Saints (NFL) and the New Orleans Pelicans (NBA), the annual Sugar Bowl, the annual Zurich Classic (PGA Tour) and horse racing at the Fair Grounds Race Course. New Orleans also regularly hosts the Super Bowl, College Football Playoff semifinal game and the NCAA college basketball Final Four.
Former football teams in New Orleans include the New Orleans Breakers of the United States Football League (1984) (which became the Portland Breakers), the New Orleans Night of the Arena Football League (1991–1992), the New Orleans Thunder of the Regional Football League (1999), the New Orleans VooDoo of the Arena Football League (2004–2008 and 2010–2015), the Louisiana Jazz of the Women's Football Alliance (2002–2014) and the New Orleans Jazz football club of the Stars Football League (2011).
