Three of the eight tracks on the album were recorded in the studio and thus differ considerably from the filmed versions. A music video for "Language is a Virus" was produced, using the soundtrack studio recording but footage of the live performance.
Two songs on the album were remakes of earlier works: "Language Is a Virus" was originally titled "Language is a virus from outer space - William S. Burroughs" and was performed on Anderson's earlier United States Live (the soundtrack album omits the song's spoken word introduction, "Difficult Listening Hour," which had appeared on United States Live but which was also performed in the film). "Sharkey's Night" is a song from Anderson's previous album, Mister Heartbreak. However this rendition is performed by Anderson herself (the original was vocalized by William S. Burroughs) as it is in the film. Burroughs' voice is heard on the track "Late Show," however. The soundtrack album omits the other live performances of songs from Mister Heartbreak that were featured in the movie.
Shortly after learning their unit will soon return home, American soldiers Lt. Col. William Marsh (Samuel L. Jackson), SGT Vanessa Price (Jessica Biel), SPC Tommy Yates (Brian Presley), SPC Jamal Aiken (Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson) and PVT Jordan Owens (Chad Michael Murray) are sent on a final humanitarian mission to bring medical supplies to a remote Iraqi village. On the way they are caught in an ambush by insurgents. The forward vehicles of the convoy are trapped in the narrow street where they are forced to fight the attackers. The rear vehicles manage to escape the initial barrage by taking a side-street, only to be met with an improvised explosive device hidden in the carcass of a dead dog. SGT Price, the driver, is seriously wounded, having been somewhat protected from the blast by her front seat passenger who is killed instantly. While pursuing the young boys who left the bomb along with other attackers, a soldier in their team is shot and killed. When Aiken, Yates and Owens head out to shoot down the attackers, Aiken trips on loose bricks from a broken wall and injures his back, so Yates and Owens continue on alone to find the shooters in a graveyard.
Home of the Brave utilizes the recurrent theme of a diverse group of men being subjected to the horror of war and their individual reactions, in this case, the hell of jungle combat against the Japanese in World War II.
Plot
Undergoing psychoanalysis by an Army psychiatrist (Corey), paralyzed Black war veteran Private Peter Moss (Edwards) begins to walk again only when he confronts his fear of forever being an "outsider."
The film uses flashback techniques to show Moss, an Engineertopography specialist assigned to a reconnaissancepatrol who are clandestinely landed from a PT boat on a Japanese-held island in the South Pacific to prepare the island for a major amphibious landing. The patrol is led by a young major (Dick) and includes Moss's lifelong white friend Finch (Bridges), whose death leaves him racked with guilt; redneck-bigot corporal T.J. (Brodie); and sturdy but troubled Sergeant Mingo (Lovejoy).

Toto's "25th Anniversary Live in Amsterdam" is a musical celebration of the band's career. It was shot live at the Heineken Arena, in Amsterdam on February 17th, 2003.

The band's 2002 release Through the Looking Glass was an album of covers, two of which are welcomed here: "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" is a prime showcase for guitarist Steve Lukather, and "Bodhisattva" is a tight, meticulous tribute to Toto's original drummer, the late Jeff Porcaro, and his classic sessions with Steely Dan. The mega-hits "Africa," "Rosanna," and "Hold the Line" are perfectly executed, and in a band full of talented singers, lead vocalist Bobby Kimball sounds better than ever. Two impressive medleys show the band in full gear as a comfortable unit of seasoned professionals, highlighted by impeccable work from keyboardist David Paich, bassist Mike Porcaro, and ace drummer Simon Phillips.

The juxtaposition of the two drastically different vocal styles is the key element that makes “Home of the Brave” work so well. Paich delivers the message and then Joe comes in and kicks that message up to 11. In the case of the Live in Poland, Williams brings more than 10,000 screaming fans into the mix as well, bolstering the song with a veritable wall of power.
The instrumental portions give each member a chance to truly shine. Jeff Porcaro’s drumming is a force unto itself on the original studio version, of course. But successor Simon Phillips managed to put his own stamp on “Home of the Brave,” creating something that was certainly equal (albeit distinctly different) to both the legacy of Toto and of the song itself in concert.
Having heard “Home of the Brave” performed with various different vocal combinations on Toto’s live releases has only, over time, further illustrated how the tandem of David Paich and Joseph Williams made this track so special in the first place.
