A mortar is a device that fires projectiles at low velocities and short ranges. The mortar has traditionally been used as a weapon to propel explosive mortar bombs in high-arcing ballistic trajectories. The weapon is typically muzzle-loading with a short, often smooth-bore barrel, generally less than 15 times its caliber. Mortar bombs are often referred to, incorrectly, as "mortars".
Mortars have been used for hundreds of years, originally in siege warfare. Many historians consider the first mortars to have been used at the 1453 siege of Constantinople by Fatih Sultan Mehmed. A European account of the 1456 siege of Belgrade by Giovanni da Tagliacozzo said that the Ottoman Turks used seven mortars that fired "stone shots one Italian mile high". The time of flight of these was apparently long enough that casualties could be avoided by posting observers to give warning of their trajectories.
Bengali cuisine is a culinary style originating in Bengal, a region in the eastern part of the Indian subcontinent, which is now divided between Bangladesh and West Bengal. Other regions, such as Tripura, and the Barak Valley region of Assam (in India) also have large native Bengali populations and share this cuisine. With an emphasis on fish, vegetables and lentils are served with rice as a staple diet. Bengali cuisine is known for its subtle (yet sometimes fiery) flavours, and its spread of confectioneries and desserts. It also has the only traditionally developed multi-course tradition from the Indian subcontinent that is analogous in structure to the modern service à la russe style of French cuisine, with food served course-wise rather than all at once.
Historical influences
Bengali food has inherited a large number of influences, arising from a historical and strong trade links with many parts of the world. Bengal fell under the sway of various Turkic rulers from the early thirteenth century onwards, and was then governed by the British for two centuries (1757–1947). The Jews brought bakeries to Bengal, the Marwaris contributed their sweet-making skills, the exiled families of Wajid Ali Shah and Tipu Sultan brought different flavours of Mughlai cuisine. British patronage and the Babu Renaissance fueled the development of these different culinary strands into a distinct heritage. From the culinary point of view, some major historical trends influenced Bengali food.
A mortar and pestle is a device used since ancient times to prepare ingredients or substances by crushing and grinding them into a fine paste or powder. The mortar (/ˈmɔːrtər/) is a bowl, typically made of hard wood, ceramic or stone. The pestle (/ˈpɛsəl/) is a heavy and blunt club-shaped object, the end of which is used for crushing and grinding. The substance to be ground is placed in the mortar and ground, crushed or mixed using a pestle.
Mortars and pestles have been used in cooking up to the present day; they are frequently also associated with the profession of pharmacy due to their historical use in preparing medicines. They can also be used in masonry and in other types of construction.
History
Scientists have found ancient mortars and pestles that date back to approximately 35,000 B.C.
Etymology
The English word mortar derives from classical Latinmortarium, meaning, among several other usages, "receptacle for pounding" and "product of grinding or pounding". The classical Latin pistillum, meaning "pounder", led to English pestle.
Wood is a porous and fibrous structural tissue found in the stems and roots of trees and other woody plants.
It has been used for thousands of years for both fuel and as a construction material. It is an organic material, a natural composite of cellulose fibers (which are strong in tension) embedded in a matrix of lignin which resists compression. Wood is sometimes defined as only the secondary xylem in the stems of trees, or it is defined more broadly to include the same type of tissue elsewhere such as in the roots of trees or shrubs. In a living tree it performs a support function, enabling woody plants to grow large or to stand up by themselves. It also conveys water and nutrients between the leaves, other growing tissues, and the roots. Wood may also refer to other plant materials with comparable properties, and to material engineered from wood, or wood chips or fiber.
The Earth contains about 434 billion cubic meters of growing stock forest, 47% of which is commercial. As an abundant, carbon-neutral renewable resource, woody materials have been of intense interest as a source of renewable energy. In 1991, approximately 3.5 cubic kilometers of wood were harvested. Dominant uses were for furniture and building construction.

This is a 60 mm Cannon it can be operated in Handheld Mode or Conventional Mode using these Bipods legs.

The greater the number of charges, the farther the round will travel.
In Hand held Mode The mortar is aligned alongside the muzzle for azimuth, and observe the range scale on the handle for elevation.
In simple terms raising the Barrel at Higher angle the round will travel less further while Decreasing the angle results with the round travelling much further.

How to Pick the Best Mortar and Pestle | Serious Eats
For grinding foods to transform their texture and release their full aroma and flavor, nothing beats a good mortar and pestle. Today, the mortar and pestle remains a crucial tool in culinary traditions around the world, and it deserves to be treated as an essential in every kitchen. Not just because it served our ancestors so well, but because it continues to do what no other item in the kitchen does: smashing fibers and cells apart to fundamentally transform their texture and release their full aroma and flavor. That's something a blade can't ever do as well.

This granite mortar and pestle is great for making everything from table top guacamole to grinding your own seasoning mixes, BBQ rubs and spices. Your friends and family will be amazed at your culinary skills when you whip out this version of a molcajete, a pre-Hispanic grinding machine made of basalt. Today these are widely used in Mexican cooking. The granite cousin, this mortar and pestle has dozens of uses, you just need to open up your horizons more. I show you how to easily use just water to condition this pestling machine before your first recipe. The use of water is the recommended method for a granite millstone. Seasoning with rice, garlic and other spices is an optional step after removing dangerous loose granite particles. So if you want to know how to season a mortar and pestle just comment below and tell us you want to see that.
Once you master this natural stone grinder a whole new world of culinary delight will be upon you.

This is a 60 mm Cannon it can be operated in Handheld Mode or Conventional Mode using these Bipods legs.
When Dropped the round activates the detonators through the firing pin, triggering the propellant charge
This is how he aim the crosshair, he uses both hands and adjusts the tripod elevation using the knob as shown in the animations all in the video ahead so stay tuned and don’t miss a beat.

civil war demonstration of a mortar at Gettysburg
update: although I am not sure if this was historical, this is real. Mortar Crews during the civil war did have exploding shells but probably not this good. Still...real, unedited video.
SCORPION: The Fastest Mobile Mortar System in the World
Check out this live-fire demonstration of our SCORPION Mobile Mortar System. It is a fully digital, automated mortar system that features a Shoot & Scoot capability able to fire 8 rounds in 2 minutes. The SCORPION shown here is set atop a Toyota Landcruiser, but SCORPION can be mounted on any 1.5 ton truck. It also features a “non-seating” baseplate — designed to NOT dig into the ground — enabling two key advantages: 1) recoil forces are taken off the vehicle, and 2) a 24-second departure; therefore NOT allowing enemy forces to back azimuth your location.
Other Features:
• Fires both 81mm and 120mm (barrels are interchangeable)
• From parking vehicle to rounds down range in 45 seconds
• Drive away (after last shot) in 24 seconds
• Eliminates the recoil effect caused by shooting on a vehicle.
• Fire Control System (FCS) knows its location as well as its ssigned targets, including a ballistic calculation system for multiple munition types.
• FCS can be operated from inside the cab and/or from outside the vehicle via tablet.
•
Lightweight and can be deployed by helicopter or other aircraft.

Mortars and pestles are incorporated into many medical symbols because pharmacists have been using them to prepare medicine for centuries. Granite used for this mortar and pestle provides a tough, non-porous surface.
