Guy & Smith was a department store located in Grimsby and is now part of House of Fraser.
History
Joseph Guy opened a drapery store in October 1850 on North St Mary's Gate, which had been home to Mr Snow's drapery business since 1801. By 1871 he had taken on a partner, Joseph Smith and new premises trading as Guy & Smith at 19 Victoria Street, Grimsby. By 1913 the store had been rebuilt and its departments were costume and dress goods, millinery, silks, children's outfitters and furnishings. The business was incorporated in 1920, and continued to expand purchasing neighbouring shops including the business of Lister's China shop and Holder Brothers piano store.
The business continued to be an independent company until 1969 when House of Fraser bought the store. The following year the business was renamed Binns (Grimsby) and by 1971 the store was completely rebuilt with 100,000 square foot of floor area. The store is now House of Fraser Grimsby.
Guy Smith (born 12 September 1974) is a British professional racing driver who has competed in various levels of motorsport, most notably the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which he won in 2003, and the American Le Mans Series, which he won in 2011.
Racing career
Early career
Born in Beverley, Smith started racing karts in 1987, winning the British Championship, and in 1991 finished second in the Senior World Championship. In 1991 he entered his first car race, competing in the Formula First Winter Series, finishing second overall. In 1992 he entered the Formula Vauxhall Junior, finishing second overall in the championship, with five wins. In 1993, he entered the British Formula Ford series, once again finishing runner-up, whilst also finishing fourth in the Formula Ford Festival, driving for Swift Racing Cars in both series.
For 1994, Guy moved to the Formula Vauxhall Lotus series, finishing fourth overall, whilst also managing to finish sixth overall in the Formula Opel Lotus Nations Cup. 1995 proved to be a breakthrough year, with Guy winning the British Formula Renault Championship, finishing fourth overall in the Formula Renault Eurocup (both times driving for Manor Motorsport testing a Williams Formula 1 car. In 1996, he made the switch to the British Formula 3, driving for Fortec Motorsport winning his first race in the series, eventually finishing sixth overall. He also entered that year's Macau Grand Prix, finishing tenth for the TOM's team, and entered the Masters of Formula 3 race, failing to finish.
Playing at Voorschoten '97, Smith joined ADO Den Haag's youth side. He made his first team debut on 24 October 2015 against FC Dordrecht (2−0 win). He started on the bench and came in after 89 minutes as a substitute for Mathias Gehrt. In june 2015 he joined VV Noordwijk. He made his official debut for the club on 2 September 2015 in the 2−1 KNVB District Cup win over HFC EDO. His league debut followed on 12 December 2015 in the game against FC Rijnvogels.
Guy Smith (born November 17, 1957 in Augusta, Georgia) is a San Francisco based writer. Smith has published both fiction and non-fiction, and bills himself as a "writer, songwriter, and political provocateur."
Smith describes a childhood that included simultaneously being a surfer and a working cowboy. His writing career began while working at Kennedy Space Center, writing articles for trade press. This led to his first book devoted to architecture of the Hewlett-Packard 3000 computer.
In San Francisco Smith began writing politically focused opinion pieces for Bay Area newspapers (San Francisco Chronicle,Oakland Tribune, Contra Costa Times). While in San Francisco he expanded into fiction, publishing his first novella (Afterlife). His speaking engagements include the Libertarian National Convention and the Gun Rights Policy Conference.
