In manufacturing or mechanical engineering a groove is a long and narrow indentation built into a material, generally for the purpose of allowing another material or part to move within the groove and be guided by it. Examples include:
A canal cut in a hard material, usually metal. This canal can be round, oval or an arc in order to receive another component such as a boss, a tongue or a gasket. It can also be on the circumference of a dowel, a bolt, an axle or on the outside or inside of a tube or pipe etc. This canal may receive a circlip an o-ring or a gasket.
The discipline of engineering is extremely broad, and encompasses a range of more specialized fields of engineering, each with a more specific emphasis on particular areas of applied science, technology and types of application.
The term Engineering is derived from the Latiningenium, meaning "cleverness" and ingeniare, meaning "to contrive, devise".
Engineering has existed since ancient times as humans devised fundamental inventions such as the wedge, lever, wheel, and pulley. Each of these inventions is essentially consistent with the modern definition of engineering.
An audio engineer works on the recording, manipulation, mixing, reproduction, and reinforcement of sound. Audio engineers work on the "...technical aspect of recording—the placing of microphones, the turning of pre-amp knobs, the setting of levels. The physical recording of any project is done by an engineer... the nuts and bolts." Many audio engineers creatively use technologies to produce sound for film, radio, television, music, electronic products and computer games. Audio engineers also set up and operate sound reinforcement systems for concert, corporate, theatre, sporting and other events.
Alternatively, the term audio engineer can refer to a scientist or professional engineer who holds a B.Sc. or M.Sc. who designs, develops and builds new audio technologies working within the field of acoustical engineering.
Audio engineering concerns the creative and practical aspects of sounds including speech and music, as well as the development of new audio technologies and advancing scientific understanding of audible sound.
The Cal Poly Pomona College of Engineering is the engineering college at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona) located in Pomona, California, United States. With over 5,600 undergraduate students (as of fall 2015), it is the largest engineering college in Southern California, the second largest college of engineering in the California State University system, and the seventeenth largest engineering college in the United States. In 2013 U.S. News & World Report ranks Cal Poly Pomona's undergraduate program 14th in the nation (for Master's-granting universities), and mentions that Cal Poly Pomona "has one of the top ranked engineering programs, and graduates roughly 1 of every 14 engineers in the state of California."
Because of the hands-on approach to academics and undergraduate focus, the college of engineering at Cal Poly Pomona is among the most selective engineering colleges in the nation and most of its departments are currently declared impacted (hold stringent standards for admissions). For fall 2015, the college admitted 45.3 percent of its total freshmen applicants who held an average unweighted GPA of 3.72 (out of 4.00) and SATs of 1178 (out of 1600), making the college admissions process statistically comparable to the University of California campuses at Davis, Irvine, and Santa Barbara.
Groove is the fifth studio album from PhilippinePop and R&B singer Billy Crawford. The album was released on iTunes on May 1st, 2009. It was also made available in physical form in 2009. The new album is a re-working of classic hits from the 1970s to the 1980s.
Track listing
Steal Away (originally popularized by Robbie Dupree)
Groove is the fourth studio album by Australian Indie pop, rock band Eurogliders, released in 1988. In early 1987, three long-term members, John Bennetts, Ron Francois and Amanda Vincent left the band. Crispin Akerman on guitar, Bernie Lynch on keyboards, vocals and guitar, and Knight on vocals and keyboards recruited Guy Le Claire on guitar, Rex Goh on guitar (ex-Air Supply), Lindsay Jehan on bass guitar and Steve Sowerby on drums. They commenced recording their fourth album Groove which peaked at #25 in April 1988. The related single, "Groove" had peaked at #13 in February but the next singles, "It Must Be Love" in June, "Listen" in September and "Precious" in March 1989 did not reach the top 50. Later in 1989, the Eurogliders disbanded.
In joinery, a groove is a slot or trench cut into a member which runs parallel to the grain. A groove is thus differentiated from a dado, which runs across the grain.
Grooves are used for a range of purposes in cabinet making and other woodworking fields. Typically, grooves are used to house the panels in frame and panel construction and the bottoms of drawers. For more structural construction, grooves are created along the sides and/or ends of panels, such as in tongue and groove construction. Applications include roofing, siding and flooring.
A groove may be through, meaning that it passes all the way through the surface and its ends are open, or stopped, meaning that one or both of the ends finish before the groove meets edge of the surface.

Making a new CAT D11R Dozer Cylinder Rod | Machining & Welding
This video is a job we did to make a new hydraulic cylinder rod for a Caterpillar D11R Dozer blade lift cylinder. The rod has a big groove in it and the chrome is damaged so needs to be replaced. The cylinder rod eye bearing also has some damaged. This shows the step by step process to make the new cylinder rod including machining and welding. To start, we machine and part the eye off the cylinder rod before pushing out the damaged bearing from the eye using our 150T tonne hydraulic press. We machine up the new cylinder rod using a 4” inch diameter induction hardened chrome bar. We need to machine both ends of the cylinder rod, the first end we machine through the induction hardened chrome layer before turning down the OD to fit the piston and cutting the 12tpi external thread for the nut....

The eye is welded on using metal cored wire and because the customer wants the rod to look as standard as possible we set it back up in the lathe and machine down the weld. The new busing we cryo freeze and shrink fit with liquid nitrogen. We finish it off with a quick paint job before cleaning, wrapping and strapping the new rod and send it on it’s way to the customer.
