German East Africa - World War 1 Colonial Warfare I THE GREAT WAR Special
The military campaign in German East Africa during World War 1 went on longer than the whole war and thanks to Paul von Lettow-Vorbeck and his guerilla warfare is now infamous among the theatres of the great war. But what was the history behind German East Africa and was it really a gentleman's war and what role did the Askari play in it?

German East Africa (1885–1919) Lied "Heia Safari/Wie oft sind wir Geschritten"
German East Africa (German: Deutsch-Ostafrika) (GEA) was a German colony in the African Great Lakes region, which included present-day Burundi, Rwanda, and the mainland part of Tanzania. GEA's area was 994,996 square kilometres (384,170 sq mi), which was nearly three times the area of present-day Germany, and double the territory of Germany then.
The colony was organized when the German military was asked in the late 1880s to put down a revolt against the activities of the German East Africa Company. It ended with Imperial Germany's defeat in World War I. Ultimately, GEA was divided between Britain and Belgium and was reorganized as a mandate of the League of Nations.

Young Indiana jones Chronicles - Ep 5: German East Africa, December 1916 - Restored
In this episode, old Indy is at a hospital where he sees a young girl who has been shot. When he learns that the man sitting next to him doesn't care about the young girls well being, he tells him not to loose hope in the younger generations, which reminds him of the time during WW1 when he was traveling through German East Africa in 1916.
This episode was written by the great Frank Darabont (writer and director of The Shawshank Redemption and the Green Mile), and was unfortunately one of the episodes that lost a lot of it's meaning in the DVD release (as pointed out in JoBlo.com's video on the series).
Here it is, restored to the way it originally aired.
Thanks to StooTV for uploading the old Indy clips that made this restoration possible.
