Georgia O'Keeffe By Myself Allen Charlton
On the brink of the Depression in 1929, Georgia O’Keeffe – America’s first great modernist painter – headed west. In the bright light of the New Mexico desert, she forged an independent life and found the solitude she needed for her truly original art.
The photographs taken of her by her older lover scandalised the public. Her flower forms were seen as a shocking and vibrant display of femininity, her bones and skulls as surreal and disturbing.
Now, 30 years after her death, to coincide with a major Tate Modern show, imagine… tells the story of Georgia O’Keeffe, one of the most inspiring artists ever.
Totally enjoyable … a wonderfully robust, positive and fulfilled portrait.

Georgia O’Keeffe At Home In New Mexico with Carolyn Kastner - Murdock Mixology presentation
Learn about iconic artist Georgia O'Keeffe and the New Mexico residences she lovingly crafted from former Georgia O'Keeffe Museum curator, Carolyn Kastner.
Artist Georgia O'Keeffe first traveled to New Mexico from the East Coast in 1917. She moved there permanently in 1949, and she ultimately had two homes outside Santa Fe.
Carolyn Kastner knows these homes intimately as the recently retired curator with the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum, the manager for these properties. Kastner researched the two sites house and grounds that O'Keeffe purchased, restored, and carefully designed to suit her distinct aesthetic as well as needs for home and studio.

For seven decades Georgia O'Keeffe was a major figure in American art. She was a female artist who refused to be pigeonholed. An artist who stayed true to her unique vision and remained independent from all the shifting art trends of her time. Her paintings, now loom so large in the collective imagination, that it is easy to forget just how radical she was for her time.
In 1935, O’Keeffe produced this ground-breaking image. The artist was already known for her series of sensuous flower paintings, but this was different. That year, her life and the type of work she created would drastically change.

Feeling disconnected from creating art within classical conventions, artist Georgia O’Keeffe began experimenting with abstract drawings that defied easy classification. Using the shapes and rhythms of nature to capture her internal world, these experiments became the cornerstone of the movement known as American Modernism. Iseult Gillespie explores the works of the elusive painter and sculptor.

Georgia O'Keeffe: A collection of 294 paintings (HD)
Description: "Georgia O'Keeffe, one of the most original painters America has ever produced, left behind a remarkable legacy when she died at the age of ninety-eight. Her vivid visual vocabulary -- sensuous flowers, bleached bones against red sky and earth -- had a stunning, profound, and lasting influence on American art in this century.
O'Keeffe's personal mystique is as intriguing and enduring as her bold, brilliant canvases. Here is the first full account of her exceptional life -- from her girlhood and early days as a controversial art teacher...to her discovery by the pioneering photographer of the New York avant-garde, Alfred Stieglitz...to her seclusion in the New Mexico desert, where she lived until her death.
And here is the story of a great romance -- between the extraordinary painter and her much older mentor, lover, and husband, Alfred Stieglitz.
Renowned for her fierce independence, iron determination, and unique artistic vision, Georgia O'Keeffe is a twentieth-century legend. Her dazzling career spans virtually the entire history modern art in America."

ABOUT OUR VIDEOS:
Comic Kids is a Miami-based non-profit that helps children in the community learn art through comics, cartoons and books. We create "Art History for Kids" videos as short educational videos that we use in our classes which also serve as resources for teachers and homeschoolers to help their children learn about art history. The goal of these videos is to increase children's art education by exposing them to art history at a young age and videos can be for lower up until high school children. Our videos will show between 20 - 50 photos of famous artists and their paintings, drawings and sculptures so that children can get a vast knowledge and overview of their styles and techniques. We also include information of the artist and their education including the art history movements which explains the importance of the art history timelines they were a part of. All of our videos include specific art terms such as Impressionism, Modernism, Modern Art, Abstract Art, Cubism, Pop Art, Surrealism etc. We keep the videos under five minutes so children may stay engaged as they learn about famous artists, art styles, art definitions, historical artists, art movements, painting techniques and modern art concepts. By releasing videos consistently, we help teachers build a consistent art history curriculum for kids in their classrooms.

Originally recorded the evening of Tuesday, February 19, 2019 in the Howard E. Wooden Lecture Hall at the Wichita Art Museum, in Wichita, Kansas.
