George Edward "Bud" Gardner (October 8, 1942 – November 6, 2006) was the first-ever goaltender for the National Hockey League's Vancouver Canucks. Gardner played for the Canucks after breaking into the NHL with the Detroit Red Wings. With the Wings, Gardner had to compete with Roger Crozier and Roy Edwards for playing time. In Vancouver, he played in 42 games over two seasons before jumping to the new World Hockey Association. In 1972-73, he spent much of the season as the number 1 goalie for the Los Angeles Sharks, and teamed with Russ Gillow to help the Sharks to a 3rd-place finish and allow the 3rd fewest goals in the WHA.

But, the lure of Southern California was strong, and in 1903, George Gardner Symons purchased land in Laguna Beach and built his studio-home, his friend Wendt also came and built a studio three years later. He would thereafter divide his time between Laguna Beach and his studio in Brooklyn, New York. In 1909, he won the Carnegie Prize at the National Academy of Design. In 1914 he also received a large commission to paint scenes of the Grand Canyon to be used in their advertising of the Santa Fe Railroad.
A classic American Impressionist, George Gardner Symons worked exclusively as a landscape and seascape artist. In California, he mainly painted seascapes of the rocky shorelines and beach coves, but when traveling back to New York, he painted in winter the snow-covered countryside."
