"West" is a short story by Orson Scott Card. It appears in his short story collection The Folk of the Fringe. Card originally published a shorter version of this story in the short story collection Free Lancers: Alien Stars IV (1987).
Plot summary
In a post-apocalyptic America, Jamie Teague is traveling from the east coast to his home in the Great Smoky Mountains. Along the way, he comes across a group of people traveling on the highway and headed straight for a group of Bushwhackers that kills anyone who tries to pass. After warning them, Jamie starts to follow them and, when the Winston highway patrol refuses to let them take an alternate route, he decides to help them get past the Bushwhackers. As they travel together, Jamie finds out that the people are Mormons and that they are headed for Utah to avoid being massacred. Knowing that they will die without his help, he agrees to take them as far as his cabin. He also agrees to let them stay with him during the winter. In the spring, Jamie tells the group about how when he was a child his mother made him keep his younger brother and sister locked in a closet until they went insane. After making this confession, Jamie gets baptized as a Mormon and decides to lead the group to Utah. When they finally arrive in Utah, they all settle down into their own homes but remain close friends.

History
West was introduced to the German market in 1981 and was only available in tobacco goods shops. It was introduced with advertising stating West was a "quality marque at a fair price" on the German market. Since approximately 1987 West became available in supermarkets and cigarette vending machines. West is the second-strongest cigarette brand in Germany.
It is available in the United States and distributed by Commonwealth Brands.
Sponsorship
West sponsored small German Formula One team Zakspeed from 1985 to 1989, and Sito Pons' Motogp team between 2000 and 2002. It was the principal sponsor of the McLaren Formula One team (as West McLaren Mercedes), from 1997 to July 2005,and Slovak Extraliga from 1997 to 2001. West terminated its relationship with McLaren due to a European Union ban on tobacco advertising. West also sponsors numerous amateur cage fighters.
As the station's name indicates, it is located at 1940 West North Temple Street, with the island platform in the median of the street. (It is one of only small number of TRAX stations that do not have designated name other than its approximate address.) Unlike many TRAX stations, 1940 West North Temple does not have a Park and Ride lot. Like many other UTA stations, this station has art work included in its design. The art work for the 1940 W North Temple station is was designed to "mirror the wetlands and wildlife that exist throughout the Salt Lake Valley". It is called Spatial Perception and was designed by Shawn Porter of Salt Lake City. The station is part of a railway right of way that was created specifically for the Green Line. The station opened on April 14, 2013, and is operated by the Utah Transit Authority. It is also one of four TRAX stations (all of which are located the north end of the Green Line) that is powered by solar panels located on top of the station's canopy through a project which was initially funded in part by Rocky Mountain Power.
Coast is a consumer magazine about the British seaside. It was launched as a bi-monthly title in 2004 by Coastal Living Ltd, and was then published by Edisea Ltd, until UK publishing company National Magazines (now Hearst Magazines UK) bought it in 2005. National Magazines continued to publish it bi-monthly as a sister title to Country Living magazine. It increased the number of issues published per year to ten in 2007. The Magazine was taken over by current publishers Kelsey Publishing Ltd in November 2012. The number of issues published per year was increased to twelve in 2014.
Coast covers all aspects of living by the sea: homes, gardens, travel, food and health.
The Coast Awards
Every year the magazine celebrates the best of the British coastline in the Coast Awards, sponsored by Joules Clothing. The winners of each of the ten categories are usually announced in the June issue of the magazine. From 2008-2011, the Awards have been reader nominated and a panel of expert judges has decided on the winners from a short list. Past presenters of the Coast Awards ceremony have included Michaela Strachan and Julia Bradbury.
Dune FM originally broadcast two RSL temporary licences in 1993. The first RSL was broadcast from makeshift studios at the rear of the town's Floral Hall complex, with the transmitter on the roof of The Southport Theatre. The second broadcast saw the station move to a new base above the Victoria Health & Leisure club, with the transmitter at Greenbank High School in the Hillside area of the town.
The station then broadcast two RSLs as "Magic Dune FM", with a target area of the town and neighbouring West Lancashire and North Sefton, and a transmitter close to the present site of Aughton near Ormskirk.
The Radio Authority eventually advertised a small-scale local licence for the towns of Southport and Ormskirk and the Merseyside borough of Sefton, which attracted three bids, including the winning Dune FM consortium.
Full-time licence
Dune FM was originally owned by local shareholders, including Steve Dickson, David Maker, Philip Hilton, John Cooper, and the founder of Blackpool's Radio Wave, John Barnett. The station found a permanent home at a former substation building on Victoria Way, renamed The Power Station.

Fox was founded in 1942 in pre-state Israel as Trico Fox Ltd. (Hebrew: טריקו פוקס בע"מ). After having its IPO on TASE in 2002, the company became Fox-Wizel Ltd. Today, Fox is an international chain with stores in ten countries: Israel, Russia, Singapore, China, Bulgaria, Croatia, Romania, Thailand, Panama and the Philippines. In Fall 2008, Fox stores opened in Canada.

The theater is celebrating its centennial this year ... It was among the earliest movie theaters to open in Long Beach, alongside other historic cinemas such as the Fox WestCoast and the EgyptianTheater — both of which have long since been demolished.
In the weeks before the premiere, a rough cut of the movie screened at Fox WestCoast theaters in the two cities, and elsewhere, to gauge audience reaction ... You’ll be pleased to know that our two Fox theaters are still standing.

... theater on Christmas ... The closure will mean that Ocean City proper has just one other theater, the Fox GoldCoast, at Gold Coast Mall on 115th Street. The next closest theater is in West Ocean City.
This movie theater (pictured in 2008) opened as a 1,008-seat cinema in 1949 for Fox WestCoast Theatres, a cinema chain started by Fox FilmCorporation founder William Fox, the book reveals.
