The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), commonly called the Foreign Office, is a department of the Government of the United Kingdom. It is responsible for protecting and promoting British interests worldwide. It was created in 1968 by merging the Foreign Office and the Commonwealth Office.

Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond welcomes visitors to the Foreign Office for Open House weekend.
Every year, the FCO on King Charles Street, London, welcomes thousands of visitors during the Open House Weekend to hear about the formation of the office, the historic Fine rooms, the impressive architecture and the symbolic importance of this building in Britain’s past.
Visitors will also have a chance to meet FCO staff and to hear about life in the FCO today.
Visitors are welcome to come to the FCO between 10.00 and 17.00 (last entry 16.30) on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 September.

Thank you Norway for the FCDO's 2023 Christmas tree
Norway has a long tradition of gifting Christmas trees to the UK, most notably the tree in Trafalgar Square gifted to the people of London as a symbol of thanks for their assistance during World War 2.
Since 2015, the Norwegian embassy has gifted a tree to the FCDO to celebrate the strength of the close UK-Norway relationship. This year, Minister for Europe Leo Docherty and Norwegian Ambassador Tore Hattrem turned on the Christmas tree lights.
