Eve Ahmad, a teenage Bangladeshi-American girl, shares how she was raised by her Muslim father to have her own identity, a practice unique to that which is taught by her faith...or by her culture. By giving her a different surname from his own, Eve was given the chance to be free; to be herself.
Eve Ahmad is a rising freshman in college. She is currently majoring in Cognitive Sciences and hopes to conduct research on neurological disorders in the near future. Aside from her love of science, Eve enjoys writing and had been the Editor-in-Chief of her high school newspaper for two years. Her main area of expertise is poetry and, thanks to the support of WriteGirl, she has been published in three anthologies as well as a finalist at the Los Angeles Youth Poet Laureate competition.
Eve is a Muslim and a Feminist and attended a Catholic High School where she gave presentations on Islam. She is an expert Henna artist and loves the intricacies and culture behind Indian and Arabian henna. At only five feet tall, this tiny but mighty young woman was selected as part of this year’s scholarship process to speak at TEDxPasadenaWomen.

History of the Entire World (Ancient, Medieval, Modern) | World History Documentary
History of the World attempts to tell the story of humans from Prehistoric times, through the Ancient Period, Middle Ages, and Modern History in a concise movie. It's meant for people who want to have a basic understanding of the major events of human history.
Human history, or world history, is the narrative of humanity's past. It is understood through archaeology, anthropology, genetics, and linguistics, and since the advent of writing, from primary and secondary sources.
Humanity's written history was preceded by its prehistory, beginning with the Palaeolithic Era ("Old Stone Age"), followed by the Neolithic Era ("New Stone Age"). The Neolithic saw the Agricultural Revolution begin, between 10,000 and 5000 BCE, in the Near East's Fertile Crescent. During this period, humans began the ...

The ENTIRE History of The United Kingdom | History Documentary
The land of Britain was once considered a myth by the mighty Roman Empire.
To them, it was nothing more than an old legend.
This would change in the year 55 BC, when Julius Caesar set his sights on this fabled island and sailed towards its shores.
The historical discovery would end in defeat.
Almost a century later, the Romans found glory when Roman Emperor Claudius stepped foot on British soil.
Here they conquered magnificent castles and cities, and left their mark on the land.
They set their eyes on Stonehenge, using the sacred site for their worship and rituals.
Londinium was established, and the Romans seized control of the land.
But what happened next in the history of the United Kingdom? To understand the story of this fascinating land, we must start from the very beginning…

During this period, humans began the systematic husbandry of plants and animals. As agriculture advanced, most humans transitioned from a nomadic to a settled lifestyle as farmers in permanent settlements. The relative security and increased productivity provided by farming allowed communities to expand into increasingly larger units, fostered by advances in transportation.
Whether in prehistoric or historic times, people always needed to be near reliable sources of drinking water. Settlements developed as early as 4,000 BCE in Iran, in Mesopotamia, in the Indus River valley on the Indian subcontinent, on the banks of Egypt's Nile River, and along China's rivers. As farming developed, grain agriculture became more sophisticated and prompted a division of labour to store food between growing seasons. Labour divisions led to the rise of a leisured upper class and the development of cities, which provided the foundation for civilization. The growing complexity of human societies necessitated systems of accounting and writing. Hinduism developed in the late Bronze Age on the Indian subcontinent. The Axial Age witnessed the introduction of religions such as Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism, and Jainism.
With civilizations flourishing, ancient history ("Antiquity," including the Classical Age and Golden Age of India, up to about 500 CE) saw the rise and fall of empires. Post-classical history (the "Middle Ages," c. 500–1500 CE,) witnessed the rise of Christianity, the Islamic Golden Age (c. 750 CE – c. 1258 CE), and the Timurid and Italian Renaissances (from around 1300 CE). The mid-15th-century introduction of movable-type printing in Europe revolutionized communication and facilitated ever wider dissemination of information, hastening the end of the Middle Ages and ushering in the Scientific Revolution. The early modern period, sometimes referred to as the "European Age and Age of the Islamic Gunpowders", from about 1500 to 1800, included the Age of Discovery and the Age of Enlightenment. By the 18th century, the accumulation of knowledge and technology had reached a critical mass that brought about the Industrial Revolution and began the late modern period, which started around 1800 and has continued through the present.
This scheme of historical periodization (dividing history into Antiquity, Post-Classical, Early Modern, and Late Modern periods) was developed for, and applies best to, the history of the Old World, particularly Europe and the Mediterranean. Outside this region, including ancient China and ancient India, historical timelines unfolded differently. However, by the 18th century, due to extensive world trade and colonization, the histories of most civilizations had become substantially intertwined, a process known as globalization. In the last quarter-millennium, the rates of growth of population, knowledge, technology, communications, commerce, weapon destructiveness, and environmental degradation have greatly accelerated, creating unprecedented opportunities and perils that now confront the planet's human communities.

Europe was in transition politically and culturally at the beginning of the 20th century. Today, we're looking at the dawn of modern science, and the rise of Modernism in the arts, especially in music, dance, and visual arts. We'll look at changes in music and dance with Stravinsky's Rite of Spring, and explore the groundbreaking visual art of the Impressionists.

The United Kingdom has played a huge role in developing democracy, literature, and science all around the world. In the 19th century, at the peak of its growth, the British Empire was spread over a quarter of the globe. In fact, It was once said that the sun never sets on the British Empire, which is a testament to how much influence the country had on the world.
We will take a look right back to the birth of the country, which was to become one of the most powerful and widespread civilizations on the planet.

The first piece of visual art in history is from 40,000 years ago. The need to create is a part of being human. It’s as old as our species and as innate as any other desire. Exploring each of these western art movements makes such a vast topic digestible.
In this video, you'll see the evolution of western art through the ages. A linear timeline filled with talented individuals over the years that always moves forward; towards something more, something new, something that excites a generation.

TV Shows That Went Too Far Then Got Cancelled
You can get away with a lot on television these days, but there are still plenty of examples of TV shows that went too far. The definitions of obscene and inappropriate have relaxed a lot since television shows were first created. If you transported someone from the 1950s to watch today's television, they would be shocked and outraged by the amount of cursing you can get away with!
Still, even modern television has its rules. Today, American television, radio, and cable are all monitored by the Federal Communications Commission. It was founded in 1934 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, and the organization has been governing television ever since. Of course, the definition of inappropriate has changed a lot over the years, and the FCC has become more relaxed over time.
While many sitcoms and reality TV shows will do their best to sneak dirty jokes through the watchful eyes of FCC, there are just some things that go too far.
At the same time, while television has become more relaxed in some ways, we've also set a higher standard in others. For example, there are many older TV shows which used racist caricatures, something that would never fly today. As the world changes, people are finally recognizing that certain words, jokes, and actions can be extremely offensive, and even harmless, to other groups of people.
Television has also imposed more strict safety guidelines, both for the people involved on set, as well as any animals that might be involved.
Even with the rules we have, alongside more subtle rules of what's considered socially acceptable, there will always be people who try and get away with as much as they can. In today's video, we're going to look at 6 times that TV shows took things too far.
Make sure you stick around until the very end, where we'll reveal a TV show so tasteless that it was canceled after just the pilot. We hope you like this video, and don't forget to subscribe to Facts Verse for more!

The Good Mothers is streaming April 5th on Hulu.
ABOUT THE GOOD MOTHERS
The story tells of bright, young prosecutor, Anna Colace, who works with the women of the ‘Ndrangheta in order to bring the notorious mafia organization down from within. The women, mothers and wives of the top bosses, were violently oppressed and marginalized by the overbearing patriarchal system of the criminal organization. Anna’s experience starts with the notorious disappearance of Lea Garofalo, who agreed to act as a witness against her husband, Carlo Cosco, to escape his control and help her daughter, Denise, to grow up away from such a toxic environment. Anna’s investigation delves further into the murky world of the ‘Ndrangheta and the powerful stories of Giuseppina Pesce and Concetta Cacciola’s - two very different women who share a dramatic background; an oppressive and suffocating existence, and the desire and drive to escape in order to give themselves and their children a better future, just as Lea tried to do.
