Just to be clear, when I say that Fedora is the new Ubuntu, I mean that Fedora now occupies the place that Ubuntu used to have in terms of Linux distributions. It's a GOOD thing.
One of the things I really enjoy about using Fedora, is that they push the Linux desktop towards the future. Some call it bleeding edge, but it's not. It's cutting edge: you don't get the absolute latest, but you get the best that's also stable.
Fedora was among the first to adopt Wayland, the first to adopt Pipewire, to push Flatpak, portals, the first mainstream distro to push immutable filesystems in Fedora Silverblue.
This drive towards modern tech was what Ubuntu was doing back in the day: they were implementing the latest versions of GNOME, adopted newly developed programs at the time, like Banshee, or F-Spot, they pushed to have better driver integration, and more software available.
Using Fedora, I got that same excitement I used to get when I was using Ubuntu: every 6 months, there's a new drop of amazing updates. You get more modern technologies, you get improved security, you get new features right as they're being released, and you get that sense of really taking advantage of all that new stuff the Linux community talks about.
Fedora is a "current" distro, which means that you get the latest release of all the interesting stuff, like the desktop environments, the linux kernel, the graphics drivers, or wayland. And they do this without sacrificing stability.
Fedora, in my experience with it, has been rock solid. In general, I didn't have many problems with any Linux distro that I daily drove, but all of them tended to exhibit small issues after a while.
My experience with Fedora has been fantastic thanks to this: Flatpak is wonderfully integrated in the GNOME Software app, it's all a one click install, all updates are handled there, I just never think about my system anymore, I just use it. That peace of mind is something I never truly achieved with any other Linux distro
Another thing I really like is that Fedora has the DEFAULT experience. They ship the desktop as is, without any meaningful extensions, themes, configurations, or tweaks.
It's just productivity central. GNOME, for me, doesn't need anything else than the default experience. It is extremely efficient once you wrap your head around how it works, and providing me with a crutch, like an always visible dock, or desktop icons, would just compromise that productivity.
Moving to Fedora also had me learn a few things, especially how to use dnf. I didn't need to use it, but I wanted to; and since I was a lot more familiar with APT, I had no idea what I was doing.
Turns out, Fedora has a huge community as well, something Ubuntu has had since it began, so it's another checkmark next to my "Fedora is the next Ubuntu" checklist

It’s that time of the year again and we have a brand new Ubuntu and a new Fedora, both released at the exact same time. Fedora 40 and ubuntu 24.04 LTS have dropped with refreshed desktops, updated kernels and the newest of everything.
Ubuntu and Fedora, both are two of the biggest and hottest Linux distos in the world. But the question that everyone has is, which one of these is the best? Which one of these two should I pick?
To help you answer that, I’ll take you on a deep dive with Ubuntu 24.04 LTS and Fedora 40. We’ll compare their performances, the user interfaces, stability, software availability, the gaming scene and a lot more, side by side. We’ll also objectively see- which of these two is the best.
I’ve been playing with the newest of Ubuntu and Fedora since they both hit beta and I’m really excited to share this video with you, because there’s a lot of interesting stuff that these two distros bring.

00:00 Introduction
00:47 What is a Fedora Hat?
Basically, a fedora hat is a snap brim hat. it's called that way because you can actually snap the brim down. A fedora is typically pinched in the middle and then again in the front. One of the big hallmarks and probably the reason it's so popular is that the Fedora is shapeable in many different forms.
Next up is the brim of the fedora. First of all, you can have different sizes. You can have very short brims, medium brims, and wide brims. Again, if you want to stay timeless, something around in the middle length is probably your best bet. Of course, it all comes down to what your face shape is and so larger brims work better for some persons and shorter for others.
The brim of the fedora can be snapped down in the front or snapped down all the way around or snaps up in the front and down in the back.
In terms of material, most fedoras these days are made from wolf felt which is basically hair from sheep that is felted which is not woven but the hair is taken together, rubbed together until they intertwine and they don't come apart anymore.
The next step up would be a rabbit or hare felt which is finer and softer and it usually makes for a great hat.
The very best qualities are beaver felt hats and they usually use hair from the belly of the beaver.
In terms of hat decoration, most hats will feature a band on the outside and there can be a bow, there can be you can have different kind of ribbons, sometimes you have little things that dangle on them, other times you can have a really wide band or a slim band maybe a leather band and sometimes you can even see people that add feathers to their hat just to highlight the individual character.
05:01 So how did the fedora get its name?
In the 1890s, there was a play titled Fedora and at the time, all men wore hats on the street. The everyday man didn't have much money and could only afford one hat that had to serve multiple purposes. The fedora was great because it could be shaped in any form needed. At that time, no gentleman would have ever worn a fedora hat. The Homburg hat is their go to choice. A gentleman would maybe only wear a fedora hat in the countryside for very casual outings. Just like many other things in menswear, the Prince of Wales wore a fedora in 1924 and it became hugely popular that way because he liked softer things.
06:27 So How To Wear a Fedora Hat
Basically, you want to wear it with a classically inspired outfit which means a jacket or a suit. If you want you could wear it with a chalk stripe or pinstripe suit that's rather bold. As the fedora is a classic piece of headwear that's not worn a lot anymore, I suggest you go with like double-breasted suits, peak lapels, maybe single breasted suits with a vest like a three-piece suit or with a contrasting vest. You can also have accessories such as cufflinks or rings maybe a tie bar or a collar bar because it just underlines the entire classic look of the fedora. Wear the fedora the right season. A felt hat is great in the winter and it's cold outside maybe in the fall and also in spring but not during the summer.
FEDORA HAT ETIQUETTE
The golden rule is whenever you're inside, take the hat off.
Also, if you wear a fedora hat, try to avoid sunglasses because it simply looks odd and over-the-top.

00:00 Borsalino Fedora Review Introduction
Dress hats have certainly had their ups and downs over the past several decades in menswear, going from something that would be worn by most men almost every day to something that’s only worn today by true menswear enthusiasts. Some hat brands maintained their prestige today, and one of them is the Italian hat maker Borsalino.
02:39 The History of Borsalino
08:34 Hallmarks of a Quality Hat: Felt & Straw
12:01 Quality of Sweatband Leather
12:52 Styling of Hats Offered
We ordered two new hats from Borsalino to examine for today’s review, and both were made in Italy.
14:30 New Hats: 1. Francesco in grey
(https://www.delmonicohatter.com/product/390031.htm)
15:26 2. Beaver fur felt hat in dark brown
(https://www.delmonicohatter.com/product/IT659.htm)
15:55 Detailed Analysis of Workmanship
** Fit: True To Size - Both fit in Preston's head relatively well, so, fit-wise, we’d call them true to size.
** Brim: Raw, Unfinished Edge - Both feature a plain or raw edge to their brim rather than being trimmed in fabric or sewn. While this look is fairly typical among modern hats and even some vintage hats and is perfectly unassuming, Preston personally finds it to look a bit rustic or unfinished in appearance.
** Ribbon: Gold Branding - Both hats have grosgrain ribbons, black on the charcoal hat and brown on the dark brown hat; Borsalino is stamped onto the bow.
** Wind Cord: A Vintage Detail - The beaver fur hat also features a wind cord, which is a somewhat obscure vintage detail.
17:59 Our Overall Thoughts
The overall workmanship on both hats is solid. The stitching is even and tidy with no obvious defects. The lining and leather also seem to be of good quality, and the felt strikes a good balance between softness and durability.
19:10 Borsalino Hats: Then vs. Now
We mentioned a friend of the channel Steve Heck earlier on, and, in fact, he sent us several vintage Borsalino hats to take a look at. He also sent us some of the vintage bowler hats you can see in our video on that hat style. You may visit Steve’s website here, from which we also sourced some of our historical information: https://germanaustrianhats.invisionzone.com/
20:44 Are Borsalino Hats Worth It or Not?
It comes down to your own personal criteria. Whatever route you choose, just be sure to pace yourself & consider all your options, taking in mind the advice we laid out here.
