How FARA Protects Americans from Foreign Influence Campaigns
The Foreign Agents Registration Act, better known as FARA, has been in the news a lot lately. Major political operatives, billionaire casino moguls, and even the head of a major U.S. think tank have all been accused of violating it.
Today FARA requires most people doing lobbying, public relations, or similar work on behalf of foreign interests to register with the Department of Justice – to provide regular disclosures about the work they’re doing.
These disclosures provide the public with a treasure trove of information about what foreign powers are doing to garner influence in the U.S. and to shape U.S. foreign policy for their own purposes.
It empowers, not just journalists, but ordinary Americans to search for their own public officials dealings with foreign agents, and what kind of...

In the heart of the Zagros Mountains, the life of a nomadic family in Iran is marked by both tradition and the challenges of the modern world. Meanwhile, back at the farm, the sighting of a dangerous snake by Nasro’s children brought fear to the household, highlighting the ever-present dangers that come with living close to nature in a nomadic lifestyle.
Life for nomadic families like this one is increasingly affected by the broader impacts of climate change. As members of a resilient nomadic culture, they are accustomed to the hardships of life on the move, but the growing issue of climate change is making their way of life even more challenging. The effects of global warming are felt deeply by nomadic peoples, whose livelihoods are closely tied to the natural environment. These changes are altering the traditional ways of life, pushing communities to adapt to new and often harsh realities.
One of the most pressing issues for these nomadic communities in Iran is the scarcity of water, a problem exacerbated by climate change. The lack of sufficient water in the village, which caused distress among the family when they couldn’t wash their clothes, is a stark reminder of the broader water shortages facing rural and nomadic populations. This scarcity not only disrupts daily life but also threatens the sustainability of nomadic lifestyles, as these communities rely heavily on access to natural resources for their survival. The intersection of climate change and water scarcity is a critical challenge for nomadic people in Iran and around the world.
