James Robert "Bob" Wills (March 6, 1905 – May 13, 1975) was an AmericanWestern swing musician, songwriter, and bandleader. Considered by music authorities as the co-founder of Western swing, he was universally known as the King of Western Swing (after the death of Spade Cooley who used the moniker "King Of Western Swing" from 1942 to 1969.)
Wills formed several bands and played radio stations around the South and West until he formed the Texas Playboys in 1934 with Wills on fiddle, Tommy Duncan on piano and vocals, rhythm guitarist June Whalin, tenor banjoist Johnnie Lee Wills, and Kermit Whalin, who played steel guitar and bass. The band played regularly on a Tulsa, Oklahoma radio station and added Leon McAuliffe on steel guitar, pianist Al Stricklin, drummer Smokey Dacus, and a horn section that expanded the band's sound. Wills favored jazz-like arrangements and the band found national popularity into the 1940s with such hits as "Steel Guitar Rag", "New San Antonio Rose", "Smoke On The Water", "Stars And Stripes On Iwo Jima", and "New Spanish Two Step".
"Faded Love" is a Western swing song written by Bob Wills, his father John Wills, and his brother, Billy Jack Wills. The tune is considered to be an exemplar of the Western swing fiddle component of American fiddle. The melody came from an 1856 ballad, Darling Nelly Gray, which John Wills knew as a fiddle tune. "Faded Love" is a sentimental song about lost love. The name comes from the refrain that follows each verse:
The song was a major hit for Bob Wills and The Texas Playboys (MGM K10786) reaching No.8 on the Country charts in 1950. It became one of his signature songs.
Leon McAuliffe had two Top 40 hits with "Faded Love", both reaching No.22 (Cimarron 4057, 1962, and MGM 14249, 1971). The former was an instrumental version, and the latter rendition was a collaboration with Tompall & the Glaser Brothers. Also in 1962, it was a modest hit for Jackie DeShannon, reaching No.97 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The song had even greater success when Patsy Cline covered the song in 1963. Her version became a hit, reaching No.7 on the U.S. Country charts and No.96 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Faded Love is a ten-track collection of songs by Patsy Cline under her second record label, Decca Records. The songs varied from Country and Pop music standards such as the title track and "Anytime," as well as previously unrecorded material such as "Imagine That" and "When You Need a Laugh." The album's title track originally peaked at #7 on the Billboard MagazineHot Country Songs chart and #96 on the BillboardPop Chart in 1963. In addition "He Called Me Baby" peaked at #23 on the Billboard Country Chart in 1964. The album was issued on a compact disc at the time of its release. In 1995, the album was reissued on Universal Special Products.Faded Love was on the first Patsy Cline MCA compilations to ever be released on a CD instead of a record.
22nd Century Lifestyle is the debut album by American nu metal band pre)Thing. It was released on April 6, 2004, by V2 Records. This is the only pre)Thing album due to the death of the band's lead singer and guitarist, Rust Epique.
