He doubled the price of my breakfast! Ubud, Bali
On today’s walk around Ubud I take a sate breakfast from Chulton a guy I’ve had sate from before. He tries to double the price of his sate sticks raising them from 10, 000 to 20, 000 rupiah perhaps forgetting what I’d paid previously.
I talk with a man who I see riding his scooter each morning with his dog perched on the handlebars wearing blue sunglasses. I learn the man’s name is Gary and he lives in Tagalalang where he owns a villa which he rents out for 20,000,000 rupiah a month.
Made’s warring is a quick stop for my morning coffee where Made won’t let me pay today. I ask her how much rice she uses each day in her meals to be surprised at the total being twenty five kilo.
I also meet a flower seller who travels to Klungkung every single day in his small truck to buy his product whi...

Are you looking for the best things to do in Bali? We just created a list of 35 must do activities for you to do while visiting Bali Indonesia! In this Bali travel guide we show you around Kuta, Uluwatu, Sanur, Canggu, Ubud, Seminyak and many other top tourist destinations in Bali. Some of those Bali attractions include Tanah Lot, The Rock Bar, Amed Beach, Lombok, Gili Islands, Beach Clubs, Surf Schools, Temples, Cultural villages, Garuda Wisnu Temple and much more! If you enjoy this Bali travel video you can also watch our other travel vlogs from across Indonesia.
It took 10 days to make this Bali travel video. I would say you can explore most of Bali in the southern part of the island around Kuta Legian and Uluwatu in 3 to 5 days but if you want to see Sanur, Seminyak and Canggu you will need more time. Mostly because Bali traffic can be quite dense. You can easily do these attractions on your own and don't need a guide but I would recommend a guide for first time visitors. Make sure you find a registered tour guide and company on the island. You can find the best Bali in Kuta, Nusa Dua, Seminyak and Uluwatu. The best food in Bali seems to be Nasi Goreng as it is the most popular with most locals.

I also meet a flower seller who travels to Klungkung every single day in his small truck to buy his product which he then sells in Ubud. He tells me of what his hopes are for the future and a bit about his life in Ubud, Bali.

BALINESE NAMES #BaliGoLiveCulture
If you have ever been to Bali, you probably met a lot of people with the same name.
The Balinese naming system is a very special phenomenon and might be confusing at first. Let us explain!
In general, Balinese people name their children depending on the order they are born, and the names are almost the same for both males and females. This system helps you place people in their family and society:
First born : Wayan, Gede, Putu or Ni Luh
Second born : Made, Kadek or Nengah
Third born : Nyoman or Komang
Fourth born : Ketut
Ketut means “little banana” or “the outer edge of banana bunch”. This child is considered the “bonus” kid. If a family has more than four children, the cycle repeats itself.

Fourth born : Ketut
Ketut means “little banana” or “the outer edge of banana bunch”. This child is considered the “bonus” kid. If a family has more than four children, the cycle repeats itself.
The initials in front of a Balinese name indicate gender and caste :
- "I" for man and "Ni" for girl for a regular Balinese citizen
- "Pande" from a blacksmith family
- "Ida Bagus" from a Brahman (respectable) family
- "Anak Agung" from a noble family
However, you might run into people with names that don’t fit into any of these categories. This is probably because they go by their nickname. Most Balinese people also give their children a second or third Hindu name that has a positive meaning.

Bali is known as “the Island of the Gods,” with its tens of thousands of temples and shrines dating back more than a millennium to the exotic Indianized empires of Java that influenced Bali greatly. Although it bore witness to the ancient Maritime Silk Road of Southeast Asia, Bali mysteriously avoided complete domination by ocean traders and European colonizers until as late as the 20th century.
Bali is visited today by millions of international tourists, not only for its magnificent beaches and lush, tropical scenery but also as a living monument of an ancient cultural past. The Balinese of today adhere faithfully to the unique Balinese Hinduism of their island paradise and continue following traditions and art forms that were brought to its shores by their ancestors thousands of years ago.
